How can Pakistan reach the Semi-Finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 now?

South Africa play NL first, and then Pakistan Bangladesh to follow after that.

If South Africa and pakistan win as expected, then a 100 million fans will tune into Zimbabwe India later in the same day and hope for a miracle win for Zimbabwe... no doubt India will collapse only for Kohli to do something stunning with the bat or take an exceptional catch / runout in the field to knock pakistan out. That man single handedly repeatedly held us back in this tournament alone, on 3 different occasions.

Win against BD and wait for one other result goes into your way. Very simple equation now.
 
I'm happy with how we have played this tournament by and large. We aren't the best in the world and we have been as good as any of the other teams in our group.
The difference in the end is going to be slim.
A kohli drop of markram, liton das run out, 20 minutes more rain in that game, Asif Ali fielding on the 6 trying to catch instead of clawing it back. It really is fine margins.
We are not as bad as half our supporters think we are, and we are capable of giving anybody a proper game.
We should have got 4 off 4 Vs Zim, and for that alone we probably don't deserve to go through.
But let's have some balance here shall we
 
Quite simple for Pakistan
1) Pakistan beat Bangladesh
2) Netherlands beat South Africa OR Zimbabwe beat India.

Btw forecast is clear, don't hope for any rain.
 
The world doesn’t run on fairytales and 92 vibes.

India and South Africa will win their games with no fuss and Pakistan will be officially eliminated.

Pakistan was done and dusted the moment they lost to Zimbabwe, but I am glad the fans who have been crying left, right and center finally had something to cheer about today.

At this moment can't see this happening. India always beat Zim. And NL can't beat saffers..we are suffering die to our loss to zim and also the India game that we should have won too.

I would even go to say that Pak is the best in this group. That loss to India was just a freak thing. with 28 to get of 8 even they thought it was over. Also against Zim with 4 to get of 4 on those big grounds a couple of runs would have done it. To win big tournaments you also need a bit of luck. So far in this WC everything, just everything went against Pak in term of having a bit of luck.
 
So basically we need Rain to wipe the NED vs SA game or a Zimbabwe win over India.

Both highly unlikely scenarios (I am not counting NED to beat SA, cauz that's almost Impossible).

I'd say we have about a 5% chance to qualify for the semis..

It's not bad luck when you bowl waist high full tosses in the last over and fail to score 3 runs in 3 balls. It's called panicking. Today, Pak had nothing to lose. They gave up after Ind lost vs SA and BD lost to India. They came out, played freely and the steep D/L screwed SA. In these tournaments, the only luck is associated with toss and rain Luckily, toss hasn't been a factor. Rain screwed a few teams but not Pak. They infact have been a beneficiary.

I gave my opinion. a spinner should never bowl the last over vs India, never. We can analyse in detail and that means 8 overs of spin vs India on that wicket also made no sense. For me Pak was unlucky in the game vs India. Yes vs Zimbabwe it was very very poor cricket as well. how ever normally a top team like Pak wins 9 out of 10 times vs Zimbabwe even when playing poor cricket.

The bold part is an example of bad captaincy bad strategy, not bad luck.

In 1992 world cup zimbabwe under houghton did a major upset during last day of group matches

They defeated one of the best teams in world cup England. I can recall they defended i think a very small total around 145 i think.

Netherlands beat England in 2009 T20,
Cricket is funny old game, anything can happen.

In any case mistake against zimbabwe 3 from 3 balls will haunt Babur for long time.

With bad luck I mean the overall game. Pak was on top for like 90%. Its indeed poor planning. The biggest mistake Pak makes is before the game starts. I mean M Wasim was perhaps the best bowler in NZ, you beat NZ in their own backyard with M Wasim performing. You get a wicket with pace and you dont play him. Only Pak can do that.

How a people that produced Allama Iqbal who said: "Khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqdeer se pehle Khuda bande se khud pooche bata teri raza kya hai?" can believe in luck. There is no such thing as luck. Babar Azam is the idiot who captained a team known for world class fast bowling for over 50 years and forced a spinner to bowl the most important over of the year, as a medium pacer, with the wicket keeper standing back.

uhmmm luck always, always plays a major role in sports, especially for the one who goes on to win. just look at Eng in WC 2019. Like I said Pak did make many mistakes and that cost them big time. Babar is not captaincy material, not even close.
 
India are through if they beat Zimbabwe or even if there is a washout. Zimbabwe are unlikely to beat India. So, India should make it.

South Africa-Netherlands game shouldn't be a washout; weather looks great.

Pakistan need to beat BD and hope that an upset happens with the other two games. If they beat BD and an upset happens, Pakistan are through.

We better not to move in semi otherwise torture continue i.e Babar will be the captain, M wasim chief selector, Saqlai as head coach, Majed as feeding coach and Yousuf as batting coach remain for another 3-4 years.

At least we got through to the semis.

Instead what will happen is, we will beat Bangladesh, miss out on qualification - the team management / Babar etc will talk about the two victories, say they got unlucky at the beginning and that they just missed out on qualification due to other results etc and nothing will change. At best maybe Saqlain will go but he is a non factor in our cricket these days. Adds nothing positive or negative.

Thats why it would have been better for Pakistan to get smashed today, but now they've won, at least there's a hope we get through and find some happiness.

Not that we have any chance of reaching the semi-finals, but Zimbabwe beating India would be gold :))

India is too good against the weaker teams for an upset though unfortunately.

If Zimbabwe beat India (while Pakistan beat BD and SA beat Netherlands), India are out.

If India-Zimbabwe turns out to be a shortened game with DLS coming into play and if Zimbabwe can have a 6-7 over like how Liton Das produced vs India the other day, a Zimbabwe win is possible in that case.

Otherwise India definitely would be wary of any surprises from Zimbabwe and should beat them comfortably.

Our side is untrustworthy. Completely unprepared. They haven't played zimboks in ages.
 
India will beat Zimbabwe if it's a 40 overs game. As long as the weather holds, India will qualify now. Same for SA-NL.

PAK should look to beat BD first. May not be as straightforward as some think :)

We know what is expected of us here. A loss means exit so we won't be underprepared. But shortened game can make things tricky. :inti
 
Pakistan's Qualification scenarios:

- South Africa Vs Netherlands washout.

- Pakistan beat Bangladesh.
- Zimbabwe beat India.
 
Failing to chase 130 against one of the poorest ranked team is a legitimate reason not to qualify in the tournament.
 
They can't. Enjoy this win for what it is: a great but ultimately meaningless win, and move on with your life.

Hopefully it’s written in the stars. There’s going to be extra pressure on india and South Africa knowing the stakes of the game. Zimbabwe and Netherlands will play with nothing to lose, going out on a high. Just need 1 of them to win 😁. I believe the bangladeshi boys will give a tough challenge to Pak, hopefully we get the W.
 
Imagine India and Pakistan both going through and then meeting again in the finals. Wow wow wow. What a scenario that would be!
 
Two closely fought losses will ultimately knock Pakistan out of the tournament.

The first scenario will not mean automatic qualification for Pakistan. SA have better NRR. Pakistan have to thrash BD to beat SA's RR. Their best chance is second & Third scenario

Number of wins will be considered first then NRR. Pakistan will have more number of wins they will qualify if ned beat SA.

Just saw that if the points are equal, then the number of wins matter. If SA v NED is washed-out Pakistan is through. Would be very harsh on SA if that happens.
 
Pakistan does not deserve to qualify for losing against Zimbabwe. If Pakistan do qualify, it would be totally unfair!
 
Its over, Pakistan will not qualify and after the Zimbabwe loss they don't deserve to be in the Semifinals. Only positive is hopefully Babar is sacked as captain.
 
What would they do in the semis, they simply don't deserve with such sort of average defensive mindset

Not going to happen though, Zim are quite a weak side (not sure how we lost to them) plus they will be playing against 13. Quite a tough ask.
 
BD also has a chance if they win but after a close loss they won't be mentally up in next match. It will be a 1 sided win for Pak.

Ind v Zim is at the MCG, large ground and pacy, might be a slightly close game if ZIM bat first and post 150+ else not happening!
 
Don’t see Pakistan qualifying at all, but I would love to see Zimbabwe atleast put India under pressure in the game.

Will be fun to watch :))
 
Our chances are now minimal, i believe SA and India will wim easily
However, if we have to choose where are the better odds of getting a result of a minnow upsetting than i would say Sa vs netherlands.

Although SA is the harder team to beat for a minnow compared to india, but the issue is India has the advantage of umpires with them. Icc representatives and umpires will give decisions in favor of india.

Every wide and cheating and every run matters, and if the game gets close, i believe the umpires will fabour india one way or another.

So the best bet is on SA vs netherlands game
