Bhaijaan's ranking :-

1. 2003
2. 2007
3. 1987
4. 2015
5. 1999

2003 line-up was an absolute juggernaut. Unlucky India.

Pretty much same story in 2007.

1987 was a special triumph in India, arguably their most impressive world cup win after 2003.

2015, too strong at home.

1999, Australia actually looked a lot better team few months after 1999 world cup. Their actual 1999 squad had a lot of outdated cricketers who didn't belong in 21st century. They held their nerves better

I agree. In 1999, South Africa and Pakistan were better team. South Africa had a great team, Klusenar was a man of mission, Pollock was at its peak and Donald was also far from finished product.

Pakistan had Anwar, Inzamam, Wasim, Shoaib and Saqlain and yet they underachieved.

Australia went on to win even though they were literally third best ODI side of the tournament simply because of the clutch gene and being able to hold on nerves.

03 and 07 are hard to split. Then 15 then 99 then 87

99 won because Shane Warne and Steve Waugh are exceptionally clutch cricketers who single handedly won them must win games.
McGrath, Ponting, Gilchrist etc were not yet at their primes

1. 2003
2. 2007
3. 1999
4. 2015
5. 1987

I'd always have the '99 over the 2015 side because it had McGrath and Warne.

Yea so true.

Had Tom Moody and Paul Riefel in the squad too lol

2003 Australia was ridiculously good. In that particular World Cup, they actually played the worst cricket they could have played, but still managed to completely obliterate every side.

They were below par against Pakistan, England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka in the semifinal, but still managed to find a way to win every single time.

They were not below par. It's just that in those days , the kookaburra used to swing a bit more and they came up against some quality swing bowling from Bond, Wasim, English bowlers etc. The track against SL was quite a sluggish one, from memory.

On topic, i'd rate

2003( Warne banned, Gillespie injured etc. and they still beat everyone comprehensively)

2007 ( Once again, absolutely dominated every single opponent - most dominant WC performance ever but quality of opposition wasn't as good)

1999
Their most underrated win. SA and PAK were the 1st and 2nd favourites but had plenty of all-rounders . Australia at one point might have played

Gilly
Mark
Punter
Martyn
Lehmann
Steve
Bevan
McGrath
Warne
Fleming
Reiffel

They actually had the best batting lineup in the tournament and the bowling was pretty damn good once McGrath started opening the bowling.

1987

Bob Simpson led side was probably not the strongest on paper. But their out cricket was far superior to the likes of England and Pakistan.

2015

On home turf, they were always outright favourites .

2015 has Starc though, and McGrath wasn’t as good as he would be

McGrath was still pretty good in '99, sure he'd get better over the following years. The point on Warne stands regardless. The batting was decent too, with the Waughs supported by Bevan, Ponting, and Gilchrist. I'd agree that Gilchrist and Ponting were yet to reach their peaks but they were excellent players even then. I will also take into account that the conditions in England in May and early June with a white dukes ball weren't conducive for aggressive stroke play.

2015 was a good side but nothing really special and won primarily cause of home advantage. They didn't have to face any side of the quality of South Africa '99 or Pakistan '99.

I'd actually rate that Australian team as the weakest out of the last 3 world cup winners.
