To me this is the best one for a very long time

The way Sri Lanka had beaten Australia a few days ago meant that they were on a high and had the firepower to make it happen but Pakistan defied all that and battled hard.

Our best since Mis-You era probably a top 10-15 off alltime

Would have been a top 5had it been vs SENAI

Right up there among our best wins. Batting last on this pitch especially against a bowler like Jayasuriya in red hot form was not easy. The pitch also wasn't a flat one either, it was assisting spin.

Remarkable win

I thought 200 would be enough for Pakistan in the 4th innings but boy I was wrong

I was pleasantly surprised, initially I didnt think Pakistan would chase this down.

However full credit to Shafique & Babar for playing their part in this test match..

Momentum is now with the Pakistani side, they need to seal the series...

Easily one of Pak's best wins ever.

Common sense and a simple analysis of the facts leads to a very simple conclusion.

- 11th biggest run chase in test history
- biggest run chase ever at Galle
- chasing on a spinning and crumbling track

Hence - one of the greatest wins in a Pakistan history without any doubt (top 5 of great wins).

And I would put it on the top 20 best test victories of all time for any team. Teams do not chase over 300 on spinning wickets.

I would be bold and say its in our top 5 maybe 10 wins. Easily.. on a spinning track and so many runs..we never chase this stuff...these new guys really are fearless..

Outstanding.

Srl was on top after getting Pakistan 9 down for 148 in the 1st innings and remained on top in their 2nd innings as well considering Pak had to bat last on this wicket. Believing and turning it around was top stuff.

However, management needs to take note of the weak points and why we were behind in the game for sometime and how we can improve on those aspects alongside selection.

In regards to a run chase its one of pakistans best ever. People are talking about pakistan was 85/7 at one point with the bat and Also 112/8 but same context SL were 130/8 in 1st inns.

Both teams batted very poorly in 1st inns and surface wasnt as bad as either teams average 1st inns effort.

Pakistan have shown here and in 2nd test vs Aussies they can bat well in 4th inns of a game when they bat positively.

Right up there along with:
- Bangalore 2005
- Karachi 2006
- Abu Dhabi 2012 (vs. England)
- Dubai 2013 (vs. SAF)
- Sharjah 2014 (vs. SL)
- Abu Dhabi 2014 (vs. Australia)
- Pakellele 2015
- Oval 2016

A very good victory as long as we take the lessons and don’t sugarcoat the negatives. Great fightback from 85-7, but you shouldn’t get in to those positions in the first place.

Also it took two truly special innings to make this happen - babar and shafique. To kick on from here, address the negatives and celebrate the positives.

I've seen a lot of Pakistan cricket and undoubtedly this has to be right there amongst the very best.

Absolutely brilliant run chase. Incredible stuff. Congratulations to the fans!!

Pakistan changed their mindset from the Australia series. They went for the win and got it!

Legendary win!

This wasn't the strongest Sri Lankan side but they were at home in their own conditions against a Pakistan side lacking a lot of experience.

Superb win this, surely one of the best for Pakistan considering the amount of runs they had to score in the 4th innings of the match.

One of our greatest victories ever, in a match that seesawed consistently. From the 70 run stand for the last wicket to chasing down 342 on a pitch where 100+ totals have only been chased twice in history before. Nothing short of remarkable.

Personally, I ranked it higher than the one wicket win over Australia: a match in which Healy essentially gave the match to us on a silver platter and the Pallekelle win, which was comprehensive and not nearly as exciting.

The maghrib chase might rival this one. But personally I rate this higher just because of the consistent levels of excitement and intrigue.

Great list. Haven't forgotten any of these matches. Which I guess speaks to how memorable these wins are.

Did you even watch the 1994 test vs Australia at karachi? :)))

So basically reasons you rate the SL win more because.

1) Game see-sawed between 2 teams
2) pakistan put on 70 for last wicket in 1st inns.
3) Chasing down 340 where highest chase previously here was around 250
4) Healey gifted pakistan the match

So lets deal with facts of that Karachi test.

1) Game see-sawed aswell.
Aussies scored 337
Pakistan 256 (gave away a 81 run lead)
Aussies were 170/2 (250 ahead and almost in a situation they could get 400+ lead) and through brilliant reverse swing pakistan took last 8 wickets for 52 runs against a world class Aussie batting line up. Some of those dismissals were devastating.

Then chasing 315 (the highest ever total chased in pakistan and Asia at the time in 1994). That against a world class bowling unit including shane warne.

Pakistan were 184/7 and 258/9 - the last wicket put on 57. Not the 1st inns, the last inns of the game to win it.

To simply say Healy gave the match is comical. Without wasim/waqar 2nd inns spell game would have been out of sight. Also if you think chasing 315 with 9 wickets down isnt excited then thats laughable as well.

Dont just dismiss the Aussie game thinking it was decided on just 1 incident.

Clearly you didnt watch that test at all.

The Pallekele win in 2015 was terrific but this Galle track offered more turn and bounce.

I wish I could've enjoyed it more but unfortunately this Test was tucked away on a third rate cooking channel here in the UK with barely SD coverage and letterbox picture format !

What also makes today's win special is the fact that some of the more experienced guys barely performed and it was some of the newcomers that led the way.

Simply outstanding. Having the belief is one thing. Having the skill on a rank turner to achieve this, that is just something else. Babar and Abdullah, take a bow!

A remarkable result. Fighting through adversity and completing a magnificent run chase at the end. One of Pakistan’s ten best Test victories.

Same experienced players went missing vs Aus when we batted near enough 2 full days to save karachi test. Abdullah and babar both showed on that day as well that they are prepared to be positive and score runs. im sure saving that game gave them confidence they could go after another big last inns total here.

Proper meaningful runs and stats padding efforts.

The commentators complimented Shafiq's method for handling Jayasuriya, he kept playing with a straight bat and ensured that if he got a big turning spinner, the edge of the bat would be too far to induce an edge.

The 1994 test may have been more exciting on the final day. But ultimately that one wicket victory against Australia can never compare to this win for the simple reason that Pakistan were damn lucky to win that match. Australia dominated most of the match and Pakistan rarely looked like they were in the game. They were essentially dangling at the edge with that last wicket partnership between Inzi and Mushtaq.

Ultimately though that match came down to one ball. Pakistan needed 3 to win, Inzi took the charge to Warne...missed the ball completely, only for Healy to miss a simple stumping. The ball went through for 4 byes and the rest as they say is history.

A famous win no doubt but Pakistan didn't nearly have to fight as hard as they had to win this test.

Pakistan has won some pretty special games in SL down the years and its usually been down to devastating pace bowling when games been in balance and then some tricky run chases. In all of those run chase wins it was done by Batsmen who play spin masterfully and positively

4 matches that come to mind are

columbo 2000 - Won low scoring thrilling game chasing 131 with YK leading way.

Kandy 2006 - Asifs bowling in that 3rd inns and then YK again leading a chase of 183

Pallekelle 2015 - Again Yk leading pakistan home

Today Abdullah Shaffique with his 160. To win in these conditions you cant play with a tuk tuk mindset.

Is that a list of great wins since 2000?

There are quite a few big wins before that

The best test Victory I have seen due to a newcomer guiding his team to the finish line.

This indicates how big player YK was in Asian conditions.
