Has been bowling quite well. In all 3 matches, he has been economical and pretty much strangled the opposition batsmen. Took the crucial wicket of Afridi as well when it looked like Lala was gonna turn it on.

Average bowler. Bowls too many pies.

At the moment, he is an inferior version of Tahir. But age is on his side. He can only improve.

Potentially world class.

Santner though not as gifted is also a high quality bowler, bowling acumen and game awareness outstanding. Bats well, fields well, great find for NZ.

He has been quite handy in these Indian pitches, got the crucial wicket of Kohli with a beauty.
The kid has a bright future, he will play a vital role in the finals at Eden Gardens.

With that french cut beard, he reminds me of Anil Kumble.

He will never ever be World Class Pen it Down.

He bowled 4 long hops as a leg spinner. Dragged down balls asking to be hit for six through midwicket but 3 of them were faced by Shehzad who could just manage 3 singles and Malik also got a single.

Potentially those were hit me balls for six or minimum 4 so add 13to 21 runs in the total runs he conceded today to see his performance.

He lacks control.

I agree with your assesment.

He bowled 4 long hops to Shehzad & Malik where they took 4 singles.

Whereas Kohli or Warner would have scored 18 to 20 runs on those 4 balls only.

He will be very good mark my words.

1. He is only 23 and most wrist spinners only reach this level after 27, 28.
2. He Intelligent; I can read what he is doing.
3. He doesn't get bogged down by short balls, he knows it happens and moves on quickly

He was there for the taking on this kind of pitch i don't know what the hype is about.

All you had to do was use your feet and get to the pitch of the ball or bring out the sweep. the batsman who can do this didn't come on till the 17th over.

He's decent but imo Santner is truly world class. After VettorI retired I thought NZ would be easier to face, but he's been just as good. Like Styris said Santner is a 3 dimensional player, great bowler, fielder and more than a handy batsman.

Leg spin is difficult , If Kiwis persist with him , he can be effective in subcontinent

Just goes to show how easy it is to bowl in India for 'average bowlers' :ash :jadeja

Very impressive gets the bounce as well which probably was the reason he got Kohli's wicket, the turn and bounce.
The issue is not sure Kiwis will persist with someone like him in long term if not he came come in handy even in Australia just like Lyon.

I like what he brings to the limited overs team. He certainly has talent and if he can minimise the few bad balls he still bowls then he will have a great future. Unfortunately his home nation is a bit of a spinners graveyard these days.

If NZ come across SAF in semis Quinton will end this Indian's career.

Okay this guy if given the proper support will be World Class.

Amazing find for NZ.

Santner is less talented but he is canny so can get the job done.

If Warne is watching, he really could help this guy.

He has improved from the last time I saw him. Him and Santner have the potential to form a very formidable partnership for NZ in all formats of the game.

Another impressive performance by Ish today. Really spun the leg break at good pace and got some drift as well. BD batsmen couldn't read his googly either.

He looks like a very meetha bowler. Only a matter of time before the Indian batting juggernaut ends his career.

I am already nervous.Santer, Sodhi and Maccullum will pose a tough challenge for Indian batsmen when NZ tour India for 3 tests this year.Much superior spin attack compared to SA.Plus Boult and Southee are there as well.

I was thinking about this today too.

If our batsmen play spin like the lulloo way that they have been playing recently, we are in for one hell of a surprise later this year.

Terrific bowler!!! One look at the way he destroyed the Aussies in NZ convinced me that he's got the X factor

I think Zampa is better

Zampa's another great prospect but Sodhi trumps him with his variations. Could also be because Kane has more confidence in Ish than Smith on Zampa.

I think he has not much variations but a decent bowler

I think Zampa is better

He does but his variations are very subtle and they aren't very obvious to see them on screen unless you are carefully looking for them. His variations are more like...

1. One that turns and drifts a lot but dips less
2. One that turns and drifts less but dips a lot
3. Scrambled leg spin that turns a bit slow and kind of drops rather than dipping.

These are just variations of leg break and I'm not even talking about Googly, Toppin or Slider or anything like that.

Zampa isn't better than Ish. Cameron Boyce might be better than Zampa.

Best thing to come out of this WT20, the tour of India in the WT20 was valuable experience for the Test series against India in a few months.

It's worth being knocked out for as long as we manage to win a Test in India.

I was expecting (Hoping) that afridi would do to him and zampa what jos butler did yesterday.

Not to say that he is a bad bowler- just thought the afridi ''raub'' (urdu word) would be too much for him

Don't worry. If the BCCI learned from the SA series we'll provide turners that just turn enough to make our spinners effective.
But good for you that your team has 2 quality spinners at least this time. Not sure of their test match ability though .

The New Zealand spinner is hopeful of grabbing a spot in New Zealand's squad for the impending ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019.

"I think it [World Cup] is the best white-ball tournament," Sodhi told ESPNcricinfo. "Being quite a tragic and historian of the game, I'd really enjoy the chance and opportunity to play the World Cup. I am still hoping for the opportunity."

In 2019, Sodhi played five ODIs at home – three against Sri Lanka and two against India. He was wicketless against a strong India side who won the five-match series 4-1, however, in New Zealand's sweep over Sri Lanka, he was economical and also picked up the most wickets in the series.

"It was fantastic to play that full series against Sri Lanka, and contribute to a few wins," he says. "You can be relatively aggressive while still trying to keep the run rate down. I think your key job is to get wickets. It is definitely a role I really enjoyed playing and to be able to contribute was really special."

Sodhi, who has made 30 ODI appearances for New Zealand, admitted bowling against the likes of England and India, who he also said are going to be the favourites in the upcoming 50-over tournament, one must be on the feet against their top players.

"Interestingly, all of [England batsmen] are 360-degree players," Sodhi says. "They reverse-sweep, they sweep quite hard. They use their feet. You have to keep things simple and almost allow the batsmen to make mistakes, as opposed to trying to set them up. Adil Rashid sometimes bats at No. 11, so they bat all the way down, and they can be hard to contain.

"You have to trust that you get something out of the wicket [against India] even though sometimes the pitches are quite flat. You have to bowl with an aggressive mindset. They are really good at the tempo of the innings.

"They can recognise the threat and feed off other options that aren't bowling as well that day. It is important to recognise how they are looking to play you, and then make the plan. You have to think on your feet against great players."

New Zealand will be announcing their 15-member Wolrd Cup squad on Wednesday, 3 April.

Ish Sodhi of New Zealand poses with the player of the match award after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup match between India and NZ at Dubai International Stadium on October 31, 2021 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

On his 29th birthday it was Indian-born Ish Sodhi who delivered the bowling masterclass that may well have signalled the end of the road for the country of his birth at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

The tall New Zealand leg-spinner picked up the baton from Trent Boult and Tim Southee and put the clamps on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as India looked to build a total they could defend in Dubai.

In tandem with spin partner Mitchell Santner, Sodhi was able to create the pressure that starved India of boundary-scoring opportunities and brought the innings to a standstill.

Such was that pressure that even a bad ball from Sodhi ended up taking a wicket, Rohit’s timing thrown off by the variations in pace and flight and lofting a short ball outside off straight to Martin Guptill at long-on.

Immediately after the drinks break, Kohli did the same, with Boult this time the safe pair of hands at long-on and with that India were scrambling. They eventually made 110 for seven and New Zealand eased to an eight-wicket victory.

It probably should not have come as a surprise to see Sodhi do so well against India. After all, in T20 internationals, they have become his favourite opponent. His 19 wickets against India are the most of any bowler against them in the format, and his figures of two for 17 were part of a stifling bowling display.

Born in Ludhiana in the Punjab, Sodhi moved with his parents to New Zealand when aged just four learning to bowl leg-spin under the tutelage of Dipak Patel while using YouTube to study Shane Warne, Stuart McGill and Anil Kumble.

Those lessons appear to be working for Sodhi, who is also a part-time rapper, and in the shortest format of the game there are few better.

While Southee and Boult may be the star names in the Kiwi attack, Sodhi proved once again that he is a crucial cog in the team. And skipper Kane Williamson certainly appreciates the value of his leg-spinner.

He said: “Ish is an outstanding T20 bowler, white-ball bowler in particular. He's been a big part of our side for a long period of time and he’s played in a number of comps around the world so he’s really experienced. Those two spinners, through the middle for us have been huge and when you come to these conditions you do expect spin to play a big part.”

With the wickets in the UAE so conducive to spin, it is increasingly clear that slow bowlers will have a huge influence on this tournament.

Sodhi has proven time and again that he should be considered up there with the very best of them. In fact, only Rashid Khan and Shakib Al Hasan have taken more T20I wickets of spinners at this tournament than his 77.

With two more wickets and a Player of the Match display against India, the rest of the world will certainly have taken notice of just what Sodhi can do.

He turns the ball way more than Shadab khan and is much more accurate

Pakistan have the weakest leg spinner out of all the competitive teams

Sodhi seems to enjoy bowling against India. He was one of the chief-destroyers in the last T20 World Cup match too.

Overall, I think he is decent enough. Not a world-class bowler by any stretch but has the ability to pick up wickets because of the way he bowls: lots of tossing the ball up as well as a propensity to bowl those extravagant googlies and flippers. He almost invites batsmen to take a go at him. And while they will smash for some big boundaries, he'll find a way to just pull his length back on one of the balls, outfox them or draw an error out of them. And that's where he finds success.

He's someone who can be a highly useful bowler to have in a limited-overs side provided you don't mind him getting smashed every now and again.

Bowled well in this tournament and deserved the wicket of Buttler today:

Clever bowler like Yuzi chahal but leak runs many times.
Can provide crucial break throughs when pitch is assisting.
He is best kiwi bowler in their last two WT20 cups.

Four big days and eight super games of Dream11 Super Smash have come to a close with BLACKCAPS and Northern Brave leg-spinner Ish Sodhi claiming a national record at Auckland's Kennards Hire Community Oval this afternoon.

Sodhi's 2-5 off four overs was the most economical performance in the men's format in New Zealand, just two days after Otago Spark Eden Carson produced the second most economical figures in the women's game with her 4-1-5-1 against the Central Hinds in Napier (which sits behind only Melie Kerr's 4-4 nationally).

He is okay. Good for LOI formats.

Sodhi, Ajaz, and Santner can be handy on turning pitches.

Ish Sodhi joins Tim Southee and Sphie Devine as the only New Zealand players to take 100 T20I wickets.

Decent bowler

Reminds of Kumble with hight no great spin just beats batsmen with straighter one.

If you ask me i feel Ish should bowl slower in T20

Not very well!

Given 25 runs at a crucial time

Making Pakistan struggle with his bowling as well

Gets a five-for against Pakistan today. Includes the wickets of Shan, Babar, Sarfraz, Agha and Imam

Ish Sodhi has wiped the floor with Abrar this series

No hype over any mystery, just focused on flight, guile, line, length, varying his pace, bowling traditional leg spin 90% of the times and knowing when to bowl the surprise googly, top spin

Abrar in comparison bowled like a gun barrel straight bowler with limited speed, virtually zero spin and zero answers to batsmen who played him with a straight bat and didn't play cross bat shots.

The problem with Abrar is that he barely turns the ball. With his bowling action it is difficult to turn the ball.

Sodhi has bowled in the right areas, but he is bowling into the pitch and getting purchase.

Sodhi is far more experienced. Spinners tend to get better with age.

Abrar is far from a finished article but he has done quite well so far & deserves to be part of the team on Asian wickets.

Pakistani fans should be grateful that he is interested in Test cricket unlike fake golden boy Shadab.

Abrar would have taken 10 fer against pakistani batting.

No team will give sodhi this many wickets.

Sodhi was playing his first test match after 4 years so the experience point is moot.

Taking 5 wickets for 200 runs is not called doing well. Abrar has been exposed, found out and been comfortably played by the likes of NZ and Eng, there is no mystery in his bowling anymore.

Pakistan needed a proper traditional leg spinner who atleast could traditionally spin the ball unlike a gun barrel straight non threatening bowler like Abrar

Good series for him but i will reserve judgement unyil he plays a better batting lineup.

Even if Abrar's taken 5-250, can't see any other spinner in Pakistan faring any better. Bring in Nauman, Yasir, Mahmood or Sajid Khan they'll average 100+.

Abrar is the least of Pakistan's problems. The root of our problems lies firmly with a shocking pace battery and inconsistent batting.

Abrar was up against bazball in his very first series , zahid mehmood went for 7 an over. You are not expected to hit this much in tests.

Abrar created chances only to be missed by the keeper and fielders.

This.last innings could have easily been 80/5

Somerset have completed the signing of New Zealand International Ish Sodhi on a short-term contract

Ish Sodhi with career-best ODI figures of 6-39 econ 3.90 and his career best ODI score of 35(39)
Well-deserved Player of the Match

Tall guys like ish sodhi often extract the most from the pitch due to their high arms excutions which assits them to get a bit of nib from the good length.

Unlike our tall boy Usama who only seems to be extracting runs for the opposition. Maybe Ish or Adil can hand out some advice to Usama on how to bowl better.

i dont know what the hell has happened with usama, I saw him bowling in UK where he was getting maximum spin from the flat tracks but now in aisian condiotions he has lost his effectiveness.

But still i would say he is way better than shadab khan.

Yeah, he had been performing fairly well but has somehow managed to lose his form on the biggest of occasions.
