How do you react to criticism directed at you?

Some people use it as a way to improve themselves, others take offence, and to be honest sometimes there can be criticism for the sake of it.

So how do you react to criticism?

Always take it as opportunity for introspection.

You can’t develop without it.

There is a great quote I once heard

When you become important enough that people start talking about you, you need to ignore both the bad as well as the good. can't be selective.

Anyway that is easier said than done.

However most if not all successful people have a very thick skin. Just imagine for example what someone like Modi or Imran Khan or Donald Trump and other world leaders have to face on a day to day basis.

Forget them what do you think someone like Misbah would feel if he reads some of the criticism he gets on this forum

Some times it is better to ignore unless it is coming from someone meaningful in your life like Parents,Siblings,SPouse etc.

Evaluate if it's genuine. If it is, accept and move on. If it isn't, stand up for yourself

id depends on who is criticizing and who is giving the advise.

everyone had good and bad within them, its subjective

I take it constructively coming from everyone except my parents/family elders, somehow get triggered initially but do introspect later.

I do ignore a lot from colleagues esp with lifestyle choices not upto Indian social standards..

Extremely self critical which no way is good, trying to find a balance, but never seem to be happy with self..

If it is a constructive criticism, I take it and try to make myself better. If I know that I am at fault, I apologize.

However, if it is a malicious and unfair criticism, I simply ignore. I call it fake news and I move on.

I will ask for a few opinions on the criticism received. If others agree will try to eradicate it otherwise ignore it. Often a criticism only from one person could be based on jealousy or a hidden grudge.

If the criticism is from someone you know well - then it means a lot, else people tend to ignore.

I think criticism can be a good thing sometimes. It can keep you on your toes.

It becomes a bad thing if criticism becomes personal and over the top.

This is quite vague. It's very dependent on who has said it and what they have said. I don't take all criticism in the same way. Sometimes I react in all three of these ways.

Do you take criticism well? Does criticism help you to get better or does it put you under too much pressure?

I used to get negatively affected by criticisms. My confidence used to take a hit and it often used to impact my performance. I now try to embrace constructive criticism while ignoring baseless criticism.

As one gets older one needs to sift which criticism are meant to be constructive or ones meant to give a blow to you.

It also depends who is passing the criticism. If its Aunty's then I just let it go these days and the ones on social media.

I was taking driving lessons from this old desi instructor. He was yelling always no matter what I did. I ended up failing under him because he was making me confused and nervous.

I then changed the instructor and passed my test. New instructor was a calm guy and he allowed me to feel better about driving.

Criticism is good but it needs to be constructive/productive.
