What's new

How is Ahmed Shehzad's selection for the T20I squad for the series against New Zealand justified?

Are we so short of able batsmen in Pakistan that we need to fall back to selecting Ahmed Shehzad?

Wouldnt Kamran Akmal or another batsman like Sahibzada Farhan been a better choice?

Objectively speaking, he doesn’t. However, I have had a soft spot for him since 2016.

The myth that he's an "aggressive player" is still prevailing despite evidence to the contrary.

He's a very effective domestic bully but shouldn't be playing internationals.

The guy was benched from the odi side because he couldnt get a move on in the first ten overs.
So they decided maybe t20 will work for him.
Also, its an open secret that he deathly scared of the shortball now

He gets too much hate. It is fine to criticize his performances, but people have gone overboard to the point where they genuinely hate him as a person.

I think Shehzad is an insecure person. He wants to do well but has been misguided by bad company. He lost his father early and didn’t have a father figure in his life.

He works hard on his fitness and is very keeen to perform. I think he needs counseling and some respect.

He may not show it, but there is only so much one person can take. So much criticism and hatred from all quarters certainly takes its toll on him.

Hes been selected to take the shine of the new ball during 1st 6 overs of the inns :)

It’s not.

He has always performed in domestics and is always brought back to the national side, just for him to fail again.

He does get way too much hate.... i don't consider him a premiere international batsman. But for Pakistan standard he has done quite well. he is the second highest scorer last year. If you go by the actual runs scored then inzy needs to drop everyone. Only Malik has performed wonderfully well. Overall it is pathetic performance considering 6 of those 10 matches were against world xi and severely depleted (already pathetic) SL. And with this batting performance Pak were No 1 ranked team for long time. Shows the value of T20 rankings

By the grace of Almighty, Sarfraz & MoHa's stats ............

Moha has played only few matches.. Sarfraz has really useless stats after playing against such poor teams

a lot of recent selection decisions aren't justifiable - Shehzad's selection is hardly the first

Why in the World are We not trying new talend. Look What Hasan Ali. Fakhar, shadab has done. Keep selecting This below average players

I think they are backing him to do well in a place that he often has played well in. That being said, he should never have been dropped for the 3rd T20 against Sri Lanka in Lahore

I hope Shehzad's selection do not matter at all by putting Umar Amin in starting 11 in all matches.

Shehzad is a tremendous player in the Pakistan domestic circuit but internationally he hasn't done that well to warrant a place especially since he wasn't out of the team long and he hasn't fixed up the areas he needed work. He's no where near an aggressive opener in fact he prefers to preserve his wicket.

I personally would not want him back but he's apparently been doing well at the domestic level and has been a good-ish T20 batsman.

We have a lot of players performing great in domestic cricket. Shehzad needs to change the way he approaches the game. Not very happy with his inclusion honestly

As much as i would hate to say, Selfie has the ingredients to do well for Pakistan, domestically he has a good record, if he can come back out of his shell he will be a better limited overs option than azhar ali, who could potentially move one down and give stability to the batting order? Imam ul Haq looks like a one hit wonder.

I don't hate him as much as some on this forum but he should not have been selected. Hussain Talat, Shazbinda, Umar Akmal, and Sohaib Maqsood are more deserving.

The only possible reason I can see for him being selected is cos he scored well against the World XI Squad

But still believe he shouldn’t be anywhere near the national side

Hopefully after this PSL, we can say bye bye to Shehzad and the likes for good

Sohaib Maqsood is injured I believe, otherwise he would have been selected

Been hearing about Shehzad's 'ingredients to do well' for a very long time now. Also have heard about the 'come out of his shell' part.

Azhar is too slow as an opener so why will he any better down the order!?

Perhaps you were being sarcastic and I didn't get it....

Reasons to select:
Ppl are mean to him
He has ingredients
He is least rubbish of other current rubbish

The only reason Shehzad performs in domestic is because of the numerous chances he recieves against international quality bowling, of which he has shown to lack performance. So good domestic form is not a excuse to keep bringing this failure back again and again and again and..............

Seriously, I never search for T20 stats, hence overlooked this one - average of 11 with 3 NOs, and SR of 89, with the help of 2 boundaries and no 6 in 61 balls - even MJ Brearley was better :(

He is playing in semi final of Departmental OD Cup today and bowled few overs also just to show inzy how fit he is.

Yh I noticed he was playing today
Bit weird Inzi doesn’t know who is fit and who isn’t

True, A person who was never fit in his whole career and did nothing for it, how can he know anything about fitness

Now imagine if Amin is made to sit out for the first two T20s while Shehzad tuk tuks his way to 20(30) and then Amin comes in the third T20 and is expected to blast a fifty in no time.

Apparently fat Umar Akmal was fit enough for the CT and had to be sent back by the management. He was declared fit after Inzi himself oversaw the fitness test. Mashallah Alhumdulilah by the grace of God.

Pakistani mentality: dari hai tou sub jaiz hai.

You were the main antagonist. When he stunk out the place and inevitably everyone on PP had enough your change of stance was confirmed. It's the same pattern every time buddy.

going by these stats I don't think it's a bad decision. Our skipper's record on the other hand is quite impressive. Truly leading from the front.

Look at Malik cheetah in comparison

A bit lucky as well that most of the games were in Asia, not in AUS/UK/SAF/NZ - Cheetah or Billi may farak thorie hai .......

Tbh he wasn't recalled as such, so I don't think a big deal should be made. He was in the last T20I squad against Sri Lanka and done okay, and since he's done well in domestics so I expected him to be in the team and I think it's fair enough. I don't think he should be in the 11 though, Amin and Zaman should open. And no, I'm most definitely not a Shehzad fan boy, I dislike him just as much as the next guy.

Political selection or connection with PCB otherwise he should be nowhere around the team

They should have selected Shan Masood also. Fakhar Zaman had played non stop international cricket since his debut and needs to take rest which will also help him comfort his injury.
Shan and Shehzad is a dream opening pair for T20Is but isn't able to understand this. How can we ignore Shan, Inzy shud act asap otherwise Shan's daddy will sue PCB

Should've played him over Amin. He's in great form and has scored big in NZ before.

“He has the ingredients” - wonder when he’ll get the recipe.
