I am not gonna lie, I am a big party animal and go to clubs almost every month but one thing which I have noticed is that while Pakistani students go clubbing, British Pakistanis refrain from going to clubs.

Did you go clubbing in your youth?

So not true.

Which clubs do you go to?

I have been raving since the late 80s, through the 90s, 00s, and 10s, and my last night out was when I turned 40. From House, Breaks, Techno, to Trance, been there done that, and I have seen a few Pakistanis in my time at said events/venues, mainly in the North, but reality is not may Pakistanis I have met are into the sort of music I am, however, any desi event with desi DJs, and you can bet Pakistanis turn up in their droves.

A big Pakistan favourite venue was Limelight, in London.

Helter Skelter
World Dance
Gatecrasher
Godskitchen
Glade
Peach
Fabric
Heaven
The Cross
SE1

These are just the mainstream events/venues I attended on a regular basis. Not counting the smaller events such as at Bagleys, and of course the illegal raves where the location was sent via SMS only a few hours before the start, and back then we had to use an A to Z, none of this TomTom/Satnav malarky!

My favourite location though was an Aircraft Hanger at Donnington Castle!

Ahhh those where the days! I would happily relive every moment of it again! Still try to in the attic on the decks!

I go whenever I'm free. Live in Downtown Toronto (by the Eaton Centre) so clubs aren't too far away from me. Loved going to clubs at first but now they don't hold as much relevance for me.

I do, haven’t been for about 2 months since coming back from Sweden. But Stockholm nightlife was lit as hell, some of the best clubbing experience I’ve had, met a well known DJ as well.

Oslo was disappointing in terms of night life, idk if it’s like that in all of Norway, but it was definitely a shock.

British Pakistanis refrain from going to club? In which world, lol? Just head out to piccadily circus on a saturday night, you would find Pakistani guys everywhere. Also, clubbing in UK is considered a very teen/early 20s thing to do. Once you get a job and grow bit matured, people mostly goes to bars where they can talk and socialize and not have to face the madness of a nightclub.

I don’t go to clubs, but I do occassionally go to bars and play pool with my friends.

Other Pakistani friends of mine go clubbing quite often though.

Never enjoyed "clubbing" but really enjoyed DJ'ing between late 90's and early 00's, would routinely play sets in house parties and small venues though night club's i would be in & out quite quickly.

When i did hang around, it was always to see my mates make idiots of themselves while trying to secure future wife in a night club lol.

Ministry of Sound, Tiger Tiger and lots of Garage nights at the Wembley Arena.

Lol Limelight!!!
Memories flooding back.
Then you had the the slightly more exclusive Pakistani haunts such as Tramps and Annabelles

Not true. Some of the biggest party animals here are British Pakistanis.

I go to bars more often, now that I'm in my late 20s.

In terms of clubbing, my social circle stick to the more elite clubs in London such as Libertine, China White and Toy Room. Whenever we go out, we always have a table. The VIP experience is expensive but great.

For me it's all about cutting shapes on the hip-hop/RNB dance floor :djb

Mamoon - what were your experiences like when you were in the UK and US?

From what I heard, the big clubs in london do not like Pakistanis coming to them. God knows what these boys have done to earn such a poor reputation

None of the clubs like asian guys coming in. Asian girls are welcome or asian guys with asian girls, but not so much asian guys, they tend to harass the white girls in the club. But this might have changed now, because i havent been clubbing for over a decade! But i doubt mirpuris have changed!

That's not true, I don't think the clubs can differentiate between Pakistani and Indians, they get turned away at the doors just like the moody looking black crowd would.

Check with promoters. Pakistani guys are not very welcome. Indians are much better behaved and don’t cause problems like the Pakistanis do

Everyone is better behaved than mirpuris.
These guys go out in a group of about 10/12 guys, looking to cause trouble. Its not about having a dance or a drink, its about harassing white girls and jumping her boyfriend when he intervenes.

In UK as a Uni student clubbing is quite common. Some clubs really have a nice atmposphere and not necssarily nasty.

Also some larger unis will have their own large pubs where they would have a sort of club atmosphere.

It depends on your group. If it's all guys, you won't get in (especially if you're in an all Asian guy group), unless you splash out £1k for a table in certain places.

When I moved into London, I was able to build my connections quickly via work and always found myself going out in a mixed group of guys and girls from different backgrounds.

Now, because I know most of the bouncers, promoters and club managers I can get in to most of the my main spots with whoever I bring along, as long as they meet the dress code requirements.

How do they differentiate? I mean obviously for us guys it is easy to tell an Indian from a Pakistani, but how would non-desis spot the difference. Is it just the way the Pakistani guys walk with all the swag and attitude? I guess that might be a giveaway.

First I’ve ever heard of this lol.

Both groups if they are fresh off the boat type are either too hyper or look completely lost in places like these.

If they are born and raised abroad or have been living abroad for a while then they mesh into the rest of the crowd pretty seamlessly.

I do know a Pakistani guy born and raised in Karachi who is very well behaved and always preaching right and wrong and very judge mental type, but an animal on the dance floor after few drinks.

Totally false.

[I was a promoter]

However saying this, in the near 30 years of my clubbing career, I only ever witnessed trouble at Desi/RnB nights, but thankfully I only ever attended these as a guest.

Unless they turn up in a Shalwaar Kameez, there is no way.

Regularly. I love music so its a no brainer. Also having many friends who own bars/clubs, DJ's and doormen its easy free access next to the DJ.

We hear Brit Paks are religious extremists, just drop down to Broad st on a Saturday night and you will see most aren't religious at all, and its their choice.

What would I give to see you rocking the Shalwar Kameez and sneakers at a club.

The OP is baiting in this thread for a religious response. He seems to have vanished.

Went out a lot in undergrad and during first year or so of work.

Don’t really find the same excitement now. Probably have gotten older.

i liked hip hop, dancehall, raggae nights, but i get tired of music after an hour or so and used to end up trying to bag free ciggys from random people outside out of boredom. i dont even smoke cigarettes :/

think old age has got me now, much rather go to a chill spot, athough if the music is good id still make an exception. maybe

I moved to London for uni and went to a club three times because other students kept asking. Was a bit pointless because I didn't drink but I'm glad I got to see what a rubbish lifestyle it is. In a weird way it made my faith stronger

It depends on the skills and knowledge of the DJ. Their job is stop anyone getting bored but changing the tempo and playing bangers. A couple of hours is enough tbf in any club when you get older lol

I would classify myself as a jaded raver/clubber now. I was at the Peach reunion at the Camden Palais in London, and we got there about 23:00 and left at 01:30. Back in the day the night really kick started at 02:00 and we'd end up home about 11:00 the next day! Keeping in mind the reunion night was all about *Peach* classics and we practically owned every track the DJ played on vinyl.

We all realised in the end we just wanted to go home early not because we didn't have the energy but with age the priority when going out is your surroundings/comfort zone. The first thing I now think about when going out is how will I get back home, and how far I am from home!

London issues Im guessing, due to size not always easy to get home. Sheffield used have a big garage/niche scene in the 90's when as you pointed out this music was right up there with the best. Those nights went on forever and driving back to Bham was painful.

How long before vinyls sell as collectors item?

I am surprised by response to this thread because most of the British Pakistanis I know don't go clubbing but go to Shisha lounge as if its compulsory. I am not talking about Pakistani students because I know they go clubbing and drink as well so its not a shock there.

My favourite DJ at the moment - Charlotte de Witte.

[utube]-_G7pZhLOkA&t=1342s[/utube]

Here she is with Carl Cox. [For those of you who do not know, Carl Cox is a God in the dance scene.

The only thing is that these days the people are too busy waving their phones.

Anyone into this sort of music/scene?

Sheffield days were amazing. Gatecrasher, Selby, and Doncaster! Wow - what memories!

Vinyls are collectors item right now. I sell my duplicates on Discogs. www.discogs.com

Never been Doncaster, might check it out next time Im up North. I have a collection, not really so big but some rare albums and singles kept in mint condition. Don't have any duplicates to sell but will check out the link to see whats on offer to buy.

It’s not hard. Pakistanis (Punjabis) are usually very loud and hang around in groups of boys with hardly any females. It’s easy to tell if an Indian guy (educated) is out clubbing as compared to a Pakistani lad. Hard to explain without sounding weird or racist

So how do you identify an educated Indian clubber? Cos he is on his jack jones? Are you saying there are no Pakistani educated clubbers?

No, but you get my point. I’m speaking mainly about mainstream london Night clubs. Tape/Libertine/Cirque/ Drama etc.

Firstly, these boys probably will not get in as they hardly have the equal male-female ratio. Mate I know this stuff. I’m not sure where you have been promoting but London is a different ball game.

I do not think you do. You talk about Pakistanis in a group, then about an educated Indian. I asked you how you would identify an educated Indian?

I was promoting in London, and all across England. The scene I was into never had issues with Pakistanis.
You seem to be referring to clubs which have strict entry policies for the sake up upholding an image/profile; even Ministry has a code which applies to all people.

It really depends what sort of music is being played at a club/event. You will never find any discrimination at a Techno/Trance event, ever. It was all about PLUR.

That’s what I clarified. Pakistanis are not very welcome in those clubs as listed. Anyone can go into all the others. Pakistanis are a disgrace when it comes to clubbing in those places.

British Indian guy is most likely to be whitewashed and a Pakistani would rather stay with other Pakistanis.

Na bro, you can tell mirpuris from indians.
Mirpuris have skin fade haircuts, wear baggy gangsta clothes with phat necklaces and big boots or trainers and they are in groups of minimum of 7/8+ all males.
Indians have a decent haircut, wear smart trousers and shoes and are in groups of 3/4, with 1/2 girls. They also, have aftershave on and speak politely, whereas the mirpuris smell of weed and are effing and blinding in every sentence, acting like some type of rude boy gangstas, looking to cause trouble. They also just stare at the white girls and do alot worse inside the club, if the bouncers let them in.

You are basically describing chavs, and chavs can be found across all races etc, including Indians, and not exclusive to Pakistanis. These sorts will not be allowed in *classy* places, but send them to a Junglist party and they will be welcomed with open arms. You think it's just Pakistanis wearing baggy gear and bling?

Like I said, it's about the music at the event/club.

Remind me which part of UK you live in?

I am talking about nice nightclubs, trendy places, expensive places and chavs don't go to these kinds of clubs, they listen more to the type of music you are into in techno dance or grime, drill etc
I am talking about trendy nice nightclubs, where they play pop/chart music. The sort of clubs were guys go out to pull pretty girls wearing nice clothes. Not the druggie type in their jeans in the places you used to frequent!
I lived in all the major cities in england, london, birmingham, manchester, liverpool, bristol etc. This is because i am a contractor and have to go were the work is.

During my college days, I was mostly into chess and cricket. I didn't do clubbing. I wasn't even religious back then.

So now it's about nice nightclubs, trendy places? First it was a Pakistani clubber and now those who wear bling and baggy jeans. Try getting into a trendy place wearing Jeans and trainers, and you will not got in, Pakistani or not.

So all the people in this thread claiming Pakistanis are the this and that clubber, head off to these trendy places you speak of? Give me some names of these trendy places?

By the way, chavs do not listen to Techno/Trace/Breaks/Old Skool. They mainly listen to music promoting gang and violent culture. Hip Hop, Rap, and now Drill.

Frankly speaking I don;t think many people have been clubbing in this thread. Hanging out during your uni years isn't clubbing, it's socialising.

It depends on who you consider chavs. Plenty chavs go to places like ayia napa, ibiza etc
Anyway, i haven't been clubbing for over a decade. And i was refering to trendy pick up clubs from the start, because thats the clubs i used to frequent in my day!
I cant even remember the clubs names, but as a student i went to clubs all over the uk.
Hacienda in the day - your type of club with your sort of people, i only went there because of the hype, not my.type of place.
Gods kitchen in brum, same as the above,
Tramps in london- a business outing very , very nice!
Ministry of sound in london - hated it.
There was a nice clib in bradford back in the day, i cant remember the name, but it had gold taps and sofas and bar in the gents, very strange at the time, but used to get some really nice ladies coming to that club.
Clubs around picadilly in manchester, i forgot the names now - picadilly 21 or something like that.
Dome and then dome 2 in birmingham.
Fridsys nightclub in manchester was another good one.
Bobby browns in birmingham
Loads and loads, all over the country, used to go out 2/3 times a week.
But that was a long time ago.
I still see these mirpuris when i go to a nice restaurant on a saturday night in places like the west end (london) or broad st (birmingjam)or picadilly gardens/deansgate (manchester).

Basically you have a problem with Mirpuris, not Pakistanis. :)

And what do you mean by *your type of club with your sort of people*?

I have no problem with mirpuris!
Some of my oldest and best mates are mirpuris.
I have relatives married to mirpuris guys and girls. I myself was originally going to marry a mirpuri girl, back in the day, but things didn't work out.
No i say these same things to my mirpuri friends and family and they are also cheesed of with the antics of some of the mirpuri community themselves. These people are ruining our reputation both pakistani and kashmiris( mirpuris).

Did you ever watch this movie? I watched this movie and fell in love with turntables and breaks!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEoaN9qIxFs

Lost count of how many times i re-watched Breaking 1 & 2 on vhs as a kid, always rooted for Electro Rock though, Ozone was a bit gay.

You get the point. People in England are not stupid. They can easily differentiate between a Pakistani and an Indian. Especially women

Regularly. I love music so its a no brainer. Also having many friends who own bars/clubs, DJ's and doormen its easy free access next to the DJ.

We hear Brit Paks are religious extremists, just drop down to Broad st on a Saturday night and you will see most aren't religious at all, and its their choice.

I was there in October, although I didn't see many of them inside the venues, they were everywhere when we into one of the food places at around 2 or 3am.

I guess places like Mooch and Playas have more Asians over there. I have to say I miss Gatecrasher. Przym just isn't the same!

British Indian guy is most likely to be whitewashed and a Pakistani would rather stay with other Pakistanis.

I would agree with that. British Indians understand that their street cred will go up if they are seen with white people, Pakistanis just have no sophistication and stupidly think they are already the ultimate race.

The term you are looking for is hypocrits.
At small heath or balsall heath mosque to read jummah and that very night out on broad st smoking and drinking and trying to pick up girls lol!

Na just too old for that scene now, though i look young enough but i am too old and dont have that desire to go out anymore in the middle of the night prefer to watch a movie or be on here having banter with you guys or just sleeping. Like i said, gotten old.

I don't understand how you can make the quantum leap from *the antics of some of the mirpuris* to *these people are ruining our reputation both pakistani and kashmiris*. I could show you Whites, Browns, Blacks, Punjabi Pakistanis, Punjabi Indians, Hindus, Sikhs, Gujratis, etc in West London, with the same antics, hanging out in gangs, in their hoods, acting like rude boys with all the bling, smoking the herb, showboating their cars and bass-lines.

Perhaps the reputation you speak is more communal to where you live, but if you are talking about nationwide reputation of Pakistanis in the UK, then its not down to a bunch of teenagers who were refused entry for not adhering to a dress-code, it's down to something far greater - [a subject not relevant to this thread but I will give you a clue : 9/11].

By the way, I am not a Mirpuri,

Basically you have a problem with Mirpuris, not Pakistanis. :)

And what do you mean by *your type of club with your sort of people*?
This is what I was thinking just agenda against Mirpuris, I can list 100 of paindoo things punjabi do , just look at some punjabi cricketers when they get a bit of fame, but no point all Pakistanis are same for me.

You get the point. People in England are not stupid. They can easily differentiate between a Pakistani and an Indian. Especially women
Not true I am a Pakistani and even I cannot always unless they speak.

Don't worry, day-timer events are all the rage now! Anjunadeep on the 14th Dec @ Printworks in London!

Starts at 12:00 Midday!

Thanks but iam not from UK,secondly iam not interested even if its nearby home because iam a simple man.
