How much can Ghulam Mudassar learn under the likes of Mohammad Amir in the National T20 Cup?

Ghulam mudassar is one of the upcoming left arm seam bolwers. He's in the same team as Amir and Junaid, in the T20 cup. He is 17,and has decent pace and Yorker. But, he's too raw atm.

He also has a decent T20 captain, in Hafeez. Pakistan needs few more seamers to bring rotation policy.

Amir is one of the top bowlers atm, and Junaid is a decent bowler. Both are left arm quicks. How much can he learn from these two, and knock on the doors of selectors?

Is he the same Ghulam Mudassar who played PSL last year for Lahore Qalandars ... how is he just 17... how?

He's better than Junaid. Doesn't need to learn anything from him.

Hahahahaha... So the guy who hasn't even made his debut and was a mediocre spray gun in the PSL is better than the guy who was the third highest wicket taker at the CT.

He looked very raw last year but did well in the Asian tournament. I have a feeling this will be his breakthrough tournament.

He stood out in the Pentagular Cup. Threatened on the flattest of pitches where every other bowler was helpless.

Not sure, what a 4 overs game where you don't need to set-up the batsman can help a young bowler to be mentored, but may be he'll get few tips on how to keep fit, drills and may be few other tricks.

Probably, it's not a good idea for young pacers to be mentored by Wahab & JK - not that they are rubbish, rather unconventional. They don't have much to offer in terms of fundamental bowling skills like run-up, deliver stride, grip, conventional swing, cutters seem position ...., but may share experience from playing several years at highest level, which again I am not sure how much possible in 24 balls game, when kid'll be bowling with 9 men on line - 5 on outer & 4 on inner.

I hope, PCB doesn't call these players for this T20 tournament, then allow them to play in BD or SAF when QA is going on :(

Amir and Junaid are our two best bowlers and this kid is lucky to share a dressing room with them.

The next left armer I'm more excited about is Shaheen Shah Afridi. 6ft6 bowls 140+ exactly the build we need to fulfil a complete bowling attack. Most of the Pakistan bowlers playing are actually below average in height like Amir and Hasan Ali (both under 6ft). It would be nice to have someone who can hit the pitch hard rough up the batsman while the other 2 can get the wickets.

Mudassar wont be selected for either league, so he should be able to play in QA if he's picked in the draft.

Amir is over 6ft.

No way Amir is over 6ft. He's around 5'10-5'10.5 and I'd say Hassan Ali is even shorter, more like 5'8-5'9. Same with Junaid I think he's around Amir's height. Wahab is over 6 foot though, I'd guess around 6'1. Sohail Khan, Rahat Ali over 6 too.

Again, there is a condition ..........:( - this is after the kid has represented PAK A. He should do well - what little I have seen, he is more of a longer format bowler - not tight enough for squeezing runs, but on rhythm, he can blow few top orders in one spell.

Amir is 1.87 meter he is taller then afridi

1.87m is 6 ft 2 not 6 ft 6.

You see I always thought Amir was 1.87m but there was a thread on here in re: heights of Pakistan players nearly everyone said he was under 6 foot.

You know what I don't know what to believe now unless I'm next to him. :leo

Heights on google are extremely inaccurate on google. Google also lists Wahab Riaz at 6'1 and Amir at 6'2 where as Wahab is comfortably at least 2 inches taller than Amir. See picture. I think Wahab is infact around 6 -
6'1 and seeing how he is at least a couple inches taller than Amir, Amir would be around 5'10 or 5'11.
Once again, just showing how heights on google should be taken with a grain of salt. wahab.jpg

One photo won't tell you much- lots of variables to factor in (where they are standing, the angle of the photo etc).

Before I was told Amir was 1.87m (6 ft 2) this is exactly what I thought. Wahab is known to be 6 ft 1 and Amir was known to be around 5 ft 11 with lala 5 ft 10.

Amir is around 6 ft of what i have seen with my eyes.. he is not extremely tall but he is not short either plus he is very well built. His body structure is quite broad.

Here's one with them standing side by side. Im not saying this is the most reliable way to tell height, but all I'm saying is Wahab is comfortably taller than Amir. With that Amir is not close to being 6'2. Amir is probably around 5'11 (which is a very good height for a South Asian). People in Pakistan tend to have a habit of exaggerating their height too. Living in the west I've realized how rare it is to actually find a desi that is legit 6+, compared to whites or blacks. I'd put Amir below 6 ft but still tall for a desi.

yeah I'd put Amir around 5'10-5'11 (6 by desi standards lol). Either way thats strong height for a Pakistani. I'm just 5'6 - 5'7 (sad lyf lol, most of my immediate family is tall). And perhaps he's different in real life cuz he looks quite skinny in T.V

Picture shows that there is a difference of about 1 Inch only. So, Wahab Riaz must be 6'2 and M Amir 6'1.

No real point in arguing about this since we are all just guessing. But my guess is Amir 5'11 and Wahab 6'1. Pakistani players just don't quite look as tall as their English, Australian or West Indian counter parts

Was getting good movement but his pace was slightly down which is partly why he got hit for 20 at the death. Hafeez was too defensive- should have bowled his 2nd spell earlier with more aggressive fields.

Man, everytime I’ve followed a game in which he’s played, he gets thrashed.

His pace was definitely down. He's coming back from an injury I assume, as he hasn't played more than a game in the QeA- and in the game he did play he did not bowl at all in the second innings.

But but but PP experts said he is already better than the pacers in the first fifteen :sree

to be honest he has been brilliant today with the new bal.that poor over was due orr captaincy and some brilliant batting but the Kid has the potential.

Hafeez made mistakes, sure, but Ghulam bowled a poor fourth over which got what it deserved.

He has no-one else to blame.

Only bowler I am really looking forward to see is Shaheen Afridi, 6'6" fast bowler is a mouth watering prospect, :starc of our own, it just takes your attack to a whole different level...Then we can say, we are ready for WC2019(as far as bowling is concerned)...I hope he comes through, Pakistani Cricket will be so much fun to watch with Amir/Hasan/Afridi, we can go to places...

I am disappointed to see so many short fast bowlers(most of them are below 5'11"), some are way below 6...Height is such an advantage for a fast bowler. If you take 6" from McGrath, he will loose 200+ wickets along with that...Imagine Starc was same height as Amir, he would loose half of his bite...M Irfan medium pace was at 145, if he was ever fit enough to bowl, even at medium pace, he would have run riots in world cricket...

Did you watch the match or just looking at scorecards?

Hafeez is misusing him. Yet again he bowled a decent two over spell but then wasn't brought back on until the end. Why is that a problem? Well for starters he isn't fully fit yet which means his pace is down and at that point in the game he loses his greatest weapon (swing). He is still young and learning- no-one is saying he is ready for the international team yet but rather he should be prepared for it.

Stop being so short-termist.

One needs to watch the match to judge the players.

Mudassir is a great prospect for the future and it shows in his opening spell bowling. Hafeez opened with spinners which actually was a good strategy for the relentless hitters who open for them. Mudassir was brought in after 3 overs not much swing he could utilize . Even on this pacer graveyard, he bowled well and maintained good line.

In both matches, have seen some atrocious fielding off his bowling. Fielding was absolutely ghastly. A mishit of Asif Ali went to the third man where fielders were standing close, no attempt and pathetic fielding to even grab the ball at one or 2 bounce.

Mudassir has been severely unlucky in his second spell coupled with some controversial misfield of his own side.
Hafeez has not utilized him well Mudassir is instructed to do containment post 14 overs not a good strategy. Mudassir has good pace, a Sarfraz or a McCullum would use him way better. With Amir not their Hafeez has wasted him with poor strategy.

I’m not rubbishing him, and I’m sure he has a lot of potential, but some of the hype around him is clearly OTT when he goes for runs almost all the time. And I’ve seen a few posters saying he’s ready or will be ready after one season (and this was some time before)

Chief has repeatedly said Mudassar is not ready yet, so why are you demanding he explain himself?

As for his development, in you didn't know Ghulam has been out with injury for an extended period so obviously that has affected his development. As I mentioned earlier his pace is down.

Not sure what OTT hype you are referring to. He is a special talent and with time/development will develop into a special talent, especially in the longer format.

Lol i hope Amir teaches him nothing, we don't want another bowler who looks like Hadlee on supportive pitches but looks like a clueless lifeless trundler on dead wickets.

His pace is down, he's coming off an injury. He still requires refinements in his action so he can hold onto the side on position and regain the pace that we all saw he had when he made Khurrum look like a complete tailender. He's the least ready out of the pacers you see us harp about, he's still got a fair bit to learn. But he has one of the more higher ceilings. Hopefully, Akhtar can sort some of his issues out.

Even if he is too ‘raw’, he has been terrible lately.

Everytime I've seen him or seen a scorecard he has always been on the receiving end of a phainti. Another one who is a product of the PP hype brigade.

Your gonna get smashed if your head isn't still whilst bowling. You come across as if Chief and I are the only two that rate him. Here's what our current bowling coach thought if him: "Some of the youngsters that really stood out for me for their enthusiasm and skills were Imam-ul-Haq, Amad Butt, Hussain Talat, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Abbas and Ghulam Mudassar"

Look, you two are among the top posters on these forums, and most of the guys you rate are quality, but this guy gets thrashed almost every game. Just trying to understand why you guys rate him so highly.

He's not going to learn a lot about bowling in t20 format. Needs to play first class cricket.

He's the least ready out of the lot, he needs a proper bowling coach. He's got the raw ingredients pace, swing etc. I don't see what not to get excited about. Like I said you are going to get thrashed if your head isn't still.

He's shown glimpses of what he's capable of in the Pak Cup where he was one of the standout pacers.

Let’s see where he is in two years time. Right now, he is nowhere near ready, and no he is not better than Junaid atm either lol
