Its that time!

Will we be comfortable with 150, 200 or 250? Does Pakistan have the batting to take this challenge on?

If Pakistan chase a target above 160, we should consider this as a major 'heist'.
As we all know how vulnerable Pakistan's batting is...

Literally trundlers, I mean the textbook definition of one dimensional, one direction, early and predictable swinging trundlers, if we can't chase anything less than 200 against this lot, it is insanely embarrassing.

I think people are forgetting the fact the more Ireland bat, the less overs Pakistan gets to face.

Sure, Pakistan can chase 200 against Ireland or perhaps 220 even but can they chase in 2 sessions assuming Ireland play out another session? In grey skies?

Unlikely.

The longer Ireland plays, higher the chances of Pakistan failing to reach their target because of lack of overs.

I swear whenever we do these threads we always overestimate how much we can chase by 30-40 runs.

Don't want more than 150. Weather too may have a say.

Thats exactly what we want tbh. Bat as long as possible first session, get to lunch at which stage rain is expected for 1 or 2 hours, if there is any play after that point Pakistan might find themselves needing 5 or more an over under clouds against a fired up bowling unit. Its a lose lose for Pakistan really, bat for the draw and, well draw to Ireland lol, go for the win and risk losing wickets.

I would be disappointed if we can't chase around 200 against a debutant bowling attack. All the batsmen need to step up and take responsibility. If it wasn't for Shadab and Faheem's we would have been in a lot more trouble.

Anything over 150 will be challenging especially with overcast conditions tomorrow and some rain in the afternoon.

If Ireland can bat just one more session for 70 odd runs and set somewhere around 210 to 220 runs for 2 sessions this match will be a draw.

No way they can chase under grey skies at 4 an over.

Pakistan will win it. They will chase even 250.

It is Ireland's first test. They are not an experienced team around. Individual brilliance dont happen always.

However, if Ireland can take the lead to 200, I see a chance of draw.

It will be a great achievement for them nevertheless.

I think Pakistan will be better suited to chasing a bigger score under time pressure instead of a smaller score with plenty of overs to spare. In other words, they will have more chance of chasing 200 in 50 overs rather than 150 in 80 overs.

Two obvious reasons for this. First, people like Azhar Ali will be forced to play more shots, and Pakistan are more effective when they attack because they lack defensive ability. Secondly, there will be less fear of losing since they can always abort the chase at any time.

275.

Anything over 300 is impossible.

Irish will fold with a lead of around 170. Pak will win it with just 3 or 4 wickets down.

Aza Ali will comeback to form.

We won’t be comfortable with anthing now. Beyond 200 would be a sure sort defeat

Ideally you should want to have a fair crack at Pakistan and if there is rain after first session you might not have enough time.

If I were in Ireland shoes I would want to have at least 60 overs at Pakistan. So I guess it would be a blessing in disguise for Ireland if they get bowled out with 10 overs to spare in first session setting 180 to win. Kind of in between target where Pakistan get caught between draw and win mindset

Interesting day ahead. I do hope rain doesn’t play spoilsport and let cricket happen

This Pak team has too many holes for my liking...
Unsettled opener
Azhar as an opener
Babar Azam in the side
Sarfraz not much with the bat...
Rahat Ali...really?
Is Faheem the answer instead of a batter
Amir's fitness or form?

tbh it wont matter if it rains tomorrow. Don't think anyone can say we havent earned a draw

Surely you have earned it. But having 60 overs at Pakistan chasing 180-200 you can win this and that should be epic. I would it would be epic even if Pakistan win by 2-3 wickets. It would be much more than a draw

As a test fan I hate weather induced draws so I want cricket to happen whether Pakistan win or lose

260-270 should be chased against test team debuting.

Unless Pakistan get the wickets early it will be a draw because there is rain foretasted from afternoon onwards.

I think Pakistan can chase 200-250 on the final day, the only issue is how much of that day do they get to bat? Anything less than 60 overs and I think it is a draw.

Another 20-30 runs and irelabd will win this test easily on day 5. We are playing with 5 batsmen - two who are walking wickets (babar/azhar) one debutant and another who chokes under pressure in Asad. 12/1 odds for ireland to win are good. Should be taken with bookies.

Target should be under 200 once the final three wickets are cleared up. Surely, we'll win from there, ...surely?

Not more than 180. If Pakistan gets about 50 overs to chase 180 ..Pakistan is surely in for a loss.

The pitch has got better.

However it’s a Test match so chasing last will not be easy. 200 max for this Pak team.

This is why when you have 2.5 days left in the game, you dont enforece the follow-on. Bat the other team out of it, get a lead of 400 odd and give them a 5th day pitch to survive.

I don't think they'd have enforced the follow-on if the weather forecast was totally clear. Rain is a bigger concern than any target Ireland might set atm

I think they already have too many runs. Our record in 4th innings chases recently has been dreadful. I'm hoping rain saves us. We really should not have enforced the follow on!

260-270 should be chased against test team debuting.

Pakistani batsmen are mentally weak and the thought of losing to a debuting team will bring even more pressure. I do not expect them to be able to chase anything over 160.

Pak should have this in the bag apart from weather as long as they just play normal cricket and dont try and change their game due to time or weather. Just play normal cricket and dont change anything.

I don't see Pakistan losing, the worst result we can expect is a draw. It's highly unlikely that the top order for Pakistan would fail again in the same Test match. At least one or two of them would perform and might win it for Pakistan.

I think Pakistan can win this regardless of the target. Ireland has already lost 7 wickets and even if they manage to add 30-40 runs, it will be a target of around 170-180, Pakistan batting against Irish bowling should chase that.

They had lost 6 wickets for 140 odd (?) and rearguard action saved them from getting all out below 200 in 1st innings. You can never be sure about Pakistani batting against any opposition. I thing 30-40 more runs will make it difficult for Pak. Pakistan need to get Ireland within 20 runs.
