How much longer will Azhar Ali's Test career last?

PCB finally saw sense and removed Azhar Ali as test captain. Whilst the PCBs plan may have always been to have him as Temporary test captain till they felt Babar was ready for the job.

Azhars overall test career may have been an over acheivement for a limited player. However is form last 2 years has been pretty poor overall and his form outside of UAE/pakistan even worse. With pakistan finally seeing sense in dropping Asad shafiq for constant failure, how much longer will Azhar last? A tough 2 test series in new zealand wont be easy for Azhar to get runs.

I don't see him continuing after this series against NZ. He will struggle with bounce and swing. If he fails to make a 50, then he should be gone.

As long as he can continue playing one good innings per series like Asad did forever. I mean Asad literally kept getting selected by playing a career saving 50 in the last match of series, for the first time in England he didn't do it and he got dropped!

Pakistan need to think longterm, these 1 decent inns a series arent even usefull contributions to pakistan team. Needs to be dropped and another middle order batsmen brought into the team.

Now he isn't captain he will have to score runs in every series to survive another tour.

In his heart Azhar Ali will know his end is near. A lot depends on the replacements as well.

He would like to stick around till 2022 and play 100 tests but upcoming nz tour will decide his fate

Don't see him being dropped for a few more series at least. Only one that bringing Test match experience to our otherwise inexperienced Test batting. Going into the NZ series, him and Babar are the only players in the squad that have been the only consistent selections in the past few years.

I'm sure management will be hoping that, without the burden of captaincy, he can recreate a few more innings like that vs England in the last Test (except hopefully in a more match winning sense). However, if he really fails again, many questions will be asked.
