What's new

How optimistic are you (generally)?

I am realist that's why I moved to Canada as even when I was child I had zero faith (optimism) in Pakistan.

I can almost always see a positive outcome from a situation.

An exception is Brexit which seems all bad.

I am a massive cynic but then I always try to make the best of that so where does that place me?

I generally prepare myself for the worst possible outcome.

Always expect the worst. It rarely comes to pass, and you end up being pleasantly surprised. Being optimistic is just setting yourself up for disappointment.

I am cynical about the system/ society/ human relations.

I expect the best all too often, and when it doesn't reach that expectation I feel let down. I can't bring myself to go the other way and expect the worst just to be ready for bad news.

I'm comfortable deluding myself even if it's for a little while that everything is going great before reality hits.

Am never optimistic or overly negative, am more or less a delusional person who ends up surprising myself during the abberations :yk aim high and expect to fail but still keep going because it's not about how hard you hit, it's about how many times you can get up after being hit because winning is all about never giving up, it's the one thing which overwrites everything no matter how tough things get.

But I admit there are times when everything is on the brink and you can't prepare yourself mentally for a defeat because you've come so far and need to be vindicated, some times all you look for is a small chance, maybe not a home run but a ray off hope which vindicates your trials and tribulations and keeps you going because in the end, all you need is just that one ray in that one moment in time where you're more then you thought you would be. Nothing is easy in life except death.

I went from an optimist to a pessimist. Hopefully, as things get better; I will be back to my normal self :)

Cautiously optimistic.

I love this word and can't help using it during my conversations. It portrays a sense of responsibility and calm while hiding my deep insecurities and massive anxieties about the future.

One of the corollaries of Murphy's Law is that "Murphy was an optimist." An addendum to that corollary states that "Murphy wasn't just an optimist: he was a romantic."

Given how it has been established that St. Murphy was prescient, no, prophetic, we should all aim to be as optimistic (or romantic) as he was.

Prepare myself for worst possible outcome yet hope for the best and have faith in Allah.

Too optimistic for my own good.

Practical life has put me in a helluva tangle atm. The funny part is that I've just started.

But "Hum Sab Umeed Se Hain" :)

Never. I always prepare myself for the worst.

ANd this makes me better in my everyday life. This way i always prepare myself and able to overcome the problems i might end up facing.

Good to know that you remember me. :)
I think back to Nasir Kazmi discussion days with nostalgia.

I forget nothing. Those literary discussions on my intro thread from three years or so ago were terrific.

How's your baagar billa, the one I thought was really a Jinn?

I tend to move between realist/cynical and optimist throughout the day. Depends on the subject, when it refers to humans then I am usual realist slightly moving towards cynic. But when it comes to the universe, nature and the future I am almost always optimistic.
