Seems there is a mixture of softly softly and hard-handed approaches being used - but which is right?

Time to stop this topi drama once and for all, need to apply an iron-hand policy. Ya logo ka jab dil karta hai bahir aajatay hai government ko blackmail karnay.

Need to talk to them. Any form of physical confrontation will only intensify a very sensitive issue.

Just like Fazlu Was asked to provide the " bakray" from Madrassahs, these TLP thugs are looking for their own bakray
You have to be careful because any more deaths will inflame the situation. The terrible murder of the Policeman needs to be punished by arresting the leaders and jailing for life without parole. The 2nd tier leadership should be financially hurt and long sentences and the minions should be given jail and made to run around the PK judicial system.

Question is who is behind this group

That's the big question , or the group itself is self run and got so big

But I can't believe that because maulvis by nature can never unite even within one group you will get splits factions and bickering.

So how have all these tlp ended up as a massive force

If this ends up in blood shed , carnage and lal masjid type massacre it could be the end of the pti government things might spiral out of control for them

When Imran Khan was in opposition, what advice he gave to handle the protests?

I had warned few intellectuals on here

Tlp stance is summary of our society and the ideology it possesses

Pti has messed this up!
You cannot use force at any cost.

Also I don't think u can compare the tlp to the ttp

Ttp was a proper militant force with armed factions , doing bombings and sending people to do suicide attacks.

With an iron fist. Till we get rid of extremism and blood-thirsty clerics, we cannot progress!

Hope this satisfies some....

Authorities have erected barricades on the bridges over the Jhelum and Chenab rivers and a 'red line' has been established by the Punjab Rangers in a bid to stop thousands of supporters of the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) from reaching the federal capital.

The proscribed outfit plans to reach the federal capital and stage a sit-in for the expulsion of the French envoy. Thousands of TLP workers and supporters will resume their march after Friday prayers and are currently near Rahwali in the Gujranwala district.

"Beyond this line, the responsibility for law and order lies with Pakistan Rangers (Punjab), who have been given the authority to open fire at the miscreants. All the people are strictly warned to return to their homes," read a banner put up by the paramilitary force on the Jhelum bridge.

The government also placed containers on the bridges to stop the protesters from crossing the rivers as it wanted to contain TLP supporters at Jhelum.

A contingent of Punjab Rangers has been deployed on the Chenab and Jhelum crossings and RPO Rawalpindi Imran Ahmar is monitoring the situation in Jhelum along with a heavy contingent of police.

Moreover, the National Highway, GT Road, Chenab Toll Plaza to Mor Bhai Khan, Sohawa are closed for traffic at multiple points.

Aujla Canal, Wazirabad, Chenab Toll Plaza, Gujrat, Canal Bridge and Jhelum Toll Plaza, Jhelum Cantt, Pakistan Tobacco Company, Chakwal Mor, Bhai Khan Bridge, Sohawa, are also closed for traffic.

The thousands-strong march of the banned TLP has shown no signs of relenting. The marchers also have heavy machinery, including three to four heavy cranes and excavators, to remove the obstructions on the road to Islamabad.

A day earlier, Punjab CM Usman Buzdar had given the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) a free hand to counter the TLP as the procession neared Gujranwala. Since the start of the march on Oct 27, at least six police officials have been martyred as a result of clashes with TLP. According to TLP, it has also lost several of its supporters to the “police firing and shelling”.

The authorities, in order to stop the rally, have blocked major thoroughfares such as the Murree Road and adjacent highways with containers and dug trenches across GT Road.

On Wednesday, the federal government announced the deployment of Rangers in Punjab for 60 days after at least four policemen were martyred and over 250 sustained injuries in clashes between participants of the march and law enforcers near Sadhoki. The Sadhoki clashes led the government to declare the TLP a “militant outfit”.

“The TLP would now be treated as a “militant” organisation in view of its persistent tendency to challenge the writ of the state by creating chaos with the support of anti-state elements,” Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said.

“On Tuesday, a clear policy decision was taken in a meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan and attended by the top leadership of Pakistan Army, intelligence agencies heads and all the authorities concerned, that the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik will be treated as a militant group,” the minister had told a post-cabinet meeting presser.

IA bloodshed is avoided because it will make a bad situation worse but this is getting more and more dangerous. Just like the Deoband maulvis through the likes of Fazlu wanted and got a piece of the cake, the brelvi maulvis also want a share of the cake.

TLP workers remain in Wazirabad as talks continue

Rangers use teargas to disperse protesters as they attempt to use an alternate route to reach Islamabad

LAHORE:
Thousands of workers of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) stayed put in Wazirabad on Saturday after being instructed by the party leadership to do so as talks between the government and the religious party continued.

In wake of the TLP protests, the Wazirabad administration sealed all roads leading out of the area in an effort to stop the marchers.

However, on Saturday morning, the Pakistan Rangers used teargas to contain the TLP supporters as they tried to move past Wazirabad through an alternative route that goes through the city.

The TLP supporters opted for the alternative route after the government erected barricades on GT Road and dug up trenches to stop the marchers at the Chenab bridge.

In the morning, thousands of TLP workers started moving towards Islamabad using a route that goes through the city, but they were pushed back by the paramilitary force that used teargas shells to disperse the protesters. The shelling forced the workers to retreat and are still present inside Wazirabad.

Afzal, a resident of Wazirabad, told The Express Tribune that there were two routes from Wazirabad to Islamabad: one has been blocked by the government while the other goes through the city is still functional.

“There is a route that bypasses the city and connects to the bridge on Chenab River, while the second route goes through the heart of Wazirabad and joins the bridge at Chenab,” he said, adding that the admin didn’t dig up trenches on the second route.

Reportedly, the TLP workers came prepared to cross the hurdles – trenches and barricades – erected by the government to stop them on the bridge. The march participants have cranes to remove containers and large planks to cross the trenches.

The participants of the march had spent the night at Wazirabad Bypass on Friday. They had managed to move towards Gujrat but police pushed them back from Zafar Ali Khan Chowk.

According to the police, the TLP workers were moving towards Gujrat but upon action by the police, they had retreated back to the bypass and stayed the night there.

According to sources, at present, the TLP is sandwiched between the Punjab Police and the Rangers. “At their rear, the police are present while the Rangers have been deployed to the front,” they added.

It may be noted here that the Rangers had drawn a ‘red line’ near Wazirabad yesterday. A warning banner had also been put up by the paramilitary force a hundred meters from the Chenab river bridge near Wazirabad that asked the TLP supporters not to cross the bridge.

Meanwhile, Sarwar Saifi, a TLP leader, claimed that the top leadership of the TLP was present in Islamabad for the past three days, but the government had not approached them. He said the government would be responsible in case of violence.

According to the TLP leadership, another party supporter died as a result of the police violence. They claimed that at least 15 deaths have been recorded since the start of the march.

There were also reports of local negotiations between the administration and the TLP in Wazirabad.

Pindi lockdown

Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, people are facing immense difficulties due to the blockades set up on main roads in the wake of the TLP march. Murree Road has been closed for four consecutive days due to the containers placed at various points to stop the marchers.

Offices, banks and commercial centres are completely closed in the adjoining areas.

The residents of the adjoining areas are facing severe problems due to the suspension of the metro bus service and public transport.

The administration has also sealed the roads leading to government hospitals, causing severe distress to patients and their families. The supply of food items in the grain market, vegetable market and fruit market has also been suspended due to the blockades.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) investigation has found some Indian cell phone numbers in different WhastApp groups being operated by outlawed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), ARY News reported.

According to details, the probe carried out by Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) National Response Centre for Cyber Crime has found some 28 cell phone numbers belonging to different countries including India in different WhatsApp groups being operated by banned TLP.

The FIA Islamabad has also dispatched communiqué to FIA Lahore Cyber Crime Wing in this regard.

According to a letter sent to FIA Lahore, the majority of cell numbers belonged to India and were not registered in Pakistan.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry had said the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) would be treated as a “militant” organisation.

“The proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik will be treated as a militant group,” said the minister addressing a post-cabinet meeting news conference on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a 12-member committee comprising of clerics has been formed by the federal government which will coordinate between the government and outlawed Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), Minister on Religious Affairs Pir Noor ul Haq Qadri announced after a meeting of ulemas with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The prime minister met a group of top clerics at the PM House today and Noor ul Haq Qadri while speaking to media after the meeting said that Imran Khan had conveyed that he does not want bloodshed in the country

Even if the negotiations are successful, they would take to the streets again in two months using one pretext or another. They need to be crushed!

ISLAMABAD: The government on Saturday resumed talks with the banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), though this time the negotiating team primarily consisted of senior clerics from the Barelvi school of thought.

Almost all senior-most and influential leaders were brought to Rawalpindi and Islamabad. A picture of Mufti Muneebur Rehman and Karachi-based industrialist Aqeel Karim Dhedi meeting Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Bajwa kept circulating on social media.

According to sources in the TLP, Mufti Muneeb also met the outfit’s incarcerated leader Saad Rizvi in Islamabad.

Despite taking all measures against the banned outfit’s protest march, the government decided to resume talks and brought senior leaders of the organisation, already in the custody, to the federal capital in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Following these renewed efforts, the cabinet members also softened their tone, with Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony and Middle East Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi restrained from issuing statements against the banned outfit.

Official sources said Saad Rizvi and three senior members of the TLP ‘Shura’ — Maulana Shafiq Amini, Engineer Hafezullah and Pir Inayatul Haq — were brought to Islamabad from Lahore for direct negotiations.

Talking to Dawn, a senior TLP leader said negotiations were the only way forward and everybody wanted a way out of the current situation, however, the behaviour of some cabinet members was irresponsible.

“Why did they brand us Indian agent; the whole nation wants to know who is getting money from the enemies,” the TLP official, speaking from hiding, said, adding that, “we have asked the government to change the negotiating team which does not insult us after the meeting”.

Meanwhile, the TLP acknowledged the meeting in a press statement, saying that a meeting with the government team was held in Rawalpindi. In its second release issued late in the night, the TLP agreed to abide by all assurances it had given the government, including stopping the march in Wazirabad.

Meanwhile, the new negotiating team, led by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and comprising National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and MNA Ali Mohammad Khan, met the TLP leaders.

In another development, a team of 19 senior clerics met Prime Minister Imran Khan at his Banigala residence.

The delegation was led by Minister for Religious Affairs Pir Noorul Haq Qadri. However, the senior clerics, all of whom were Barelvis, objected to the presence of Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi in the meeting, after which he left. The information minister, who was on his way to Banigala, was also told not to come as the delegation had objected to his presence as well. The minister’s announced press talk was also cancelled.

Both Tahir Ashrafi and Fawad Chaudhry were not visible in the official footage released by the PM secretariat after the meeting.

When contacted, Fawad Chaudhry said he was not even invited to the meeting. He said the announcement made by the PID regarding his news conference was mistakenly released as the presser was in fact scheduled by Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, but was later done by the religious affairs minister.

On the other hand, Tahir Ashrafi responded to media queries through a tweet, claiming that he and Fawad Chaudhry were not there because they had to go to some other meeting.

The interior minister, meanwhile, participated in the meeting, but did not talk about it and referred the matter to the religious affairs minister.

One of the clerics who met the prime minister told Dawn that Mr Khan had given only one message and one mandate to the negotiators, and that was Saad Rizvi would be released and communication would continue, but the religious outfit should promise not to bring people out and disrupt routine life.

After the meeting, the religious affairs minister spoke to media persons at Banigala along with the clerics and expressed the confidence that the matter would be resolved amicably.

The team of clerics led by Pir Noorul Haq Qadri proceeded to meet TLP leaders, including Saad Rizvi, after evening prayers which continued late in the night.

Those who participated in the meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan were Sunni Tehreek president Sarwat Ejaz Qadri, Sunni Ittehad Council president Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Jamaatul Saaleheen chairman and Pir of Sultan Bahu Pir Khalid Sultan Bahu, Pir of Bharchundi Sharif Pir Abdul Khaliq, Milli Yakjehti Council chairman Dr Abul Khair Mohammad Zubair, Sahibzada Hamid Saeed Kazmi, Pir of Manki Sharif Pir Mohammad Amin, Pir of Kot Mithan Pir Khawaja Ghulam Qutub Fareed, Pir of Sial Sharif Nizam Siyalvi, Sahibzada Hafiz Hamid Raza, Mufti Wazeer Qadir, Pir of Sharaqpur Mian Jalil Ahmed Sharaqpuri, Pir of Bengali Sharif Makhdoom Abbas Bengali, Pir of Basahan Sharif Syed Ali Raza Bukhari, Wafaqul Madaris Al Islamia president Sahibzada Hussain Raza, Pir of Sundar Sharif Habib Irfani, Pir of Sodhra Syed Zia Noor Shah, Pir of Sial Sharif Qasim Siyalvi and Pir of Sultan Baho Jhang Sahibzada Sultan Ahmed Ali.

ISLAMABAD: In view of the rising tension and fear of clashes between the activists of proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and the security forces, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has urged the government to hold talks with the banned outfit and resolve the ongoing crisis in the country, The News reported.

Talking to journalists Saturday outside court, Shehbaz said FIA made the same case against him which NAB made and failed to prove.

Criticising the PTI-led government, he said the rulers have not been able to do anything but politically retaliate till today, adding that Allah will do justice.

A day earlier, Minister of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri had said a 12-member committee had been formed to play the negotiator's role between the government and the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

Speaking to the media after attending a meeting of the state officials and religious scholars belonging to the Barelvi school of thought — with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair — Qadri had said that the committee was in talks with the government as well as the leaders of the proscribed organisation.

The federal minister had said religious leaders from across the country met the prime minister and expressed the resolve to wrap up the matter peacefully.

Qadri had said the premier told the meeting's participants that the incumbent government had always welcomed meaningful and serious talks.

The prime minister had also told the ulema that their suggestions, which might save the country from bloodshed, will also be considered, the federal minister had said.

The government on Sunday said an agreement has been reached with the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) after the latest round of dialogue between the two parties.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and Federal Minister Ali Mohammad Khan flanked Mufti Muneeb at the presser.

According to Mufti Muneeb, TLP chief Saad Rizvi has also endorsed the agreement and said this agreement was not a “victory or defeat” of any group. "The agreement was reached after sense prevailed over aggression."

He said a steering committee to implement the clauses of the agreement has been established that would be headed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Khan.

The delegations held a 12-hour-long meeting to settle the matter between the two sides successfully. He said it was fortunate that the agreement was reached before the situation got out of hand.

The cleric added that the details of the agreement have not been made public at present, but will be made public soon.

Muneeb said the “positive impact” of the agreement would be felt in the coming week as he called this settlement “in the best interest of Pakistan and its citizens”.

“This is the news for the entire nation, and the national media should portray it in a positive manner." He also thanked all groups involved in negotiations.

"I am thankful to the prime minister for empowering the committee and trusting it, and also to the committee for working dedicatedly to resolve this matter," he said, adding that the TLP exhibited the same attitude.

Negotiations

Earlier, the federal government had invited the members of TLP's central committee to Islamabad after the first round of talks led by a delegation of clerics was said to have borne some success.

After multiple rounds of talks with the outfit failed, the government asked top clerics, belonging mostly to the Barelvi school of thought, to mediate between the TLP and the government.

The talks with the TLP through the clerics were successful, but they excused from becoming guarantors for either the TLP or the government.

The TLP chief, Saad Rizvi, had asked the 12-member negotiating committee to give the outfit a guarantee that the government would comply with the clauses of the agreement, whereas the government had asked the clerics to give assurance that the TLP would refrain from holding further protests.

Apparently the committee backed out saying the prime minister had strictly said that the matter of TLP detainees' release can only be decided by the court since the cases are pending before it.

However, the former chief of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneebur Rehman, who joined the dialogue on Saturday, agreed to become a guarantor of Rizvi.

Following Mufti Muneeb's willingness, the government called in the shura members of the TLP to finalise the agreement facilitated by the clerics yesterday.

Following the meeting, a press conference will be held to share the details of the agreement. As per the new agreement, the TLP leadership will let go of their demand for the expulsion of the French envoy from Pakistan.

Wazirabad sit-in

Meanwhile, the workers of the TLP are present in Wazirabad awaiting instructions from the party leadership. The rally had crossed Lahore and Gujranwala after bloody clashes with the Punjab Police that had left dozens, including at least seven policemen, dead.

A spokesperson of the TLP said the talks with the government were ongoing.

They urged against speculations on the issue. According to the spokesperson, it was too early to say anything about the outcome of the talks. They said the information regarding the dialogue would be shared by the party's central committee.

It may be noted here that areas of Rawalpindi have been under lockdown since the start of the protests by the TLP, while cities along the GT Road – the route of the TLP march — have been sealed as well to stop marchers.

Let's see the details of the agreement but you can't have an organisation threatening the state after every few months. IK is desperate to avoid bloodshed and that is understandable but in the end it will be inevitable if the TLP don't accept the writ of the state.

For a guy that supported Ind using Afg as a base for killing PKs, get lost.

For any government short term and long term goal to avoid conflict must consider preservation of life of both agitator and diffuser of the conflict.

You call it surrender because it suits your agenda but it isn’t if one were to look at it objectively.

Which strategy? The government has no writ and Imran has ZERO guts! This is the fifth time that the TLP has taken to streets and killed policemen and yet, all their demands have been accepted. Next time, Imran Khan and his ministers should go to the frontlines themselves instead of sending policemen to their deaths. The blood of at least 20 policemen has gone to waste. We must admit that Imran can lacks the guts to stand up to extremism and this is evident from how he has always tried to appease extremists from day one.

From removing Atif Mian from the economic commission to opening up mosques at the peak of COVID-19 following threats by mullahs to stalling underage marriage, domestic violence, forced conversions bills, Imran has always submitted himself to the demands of the rightwing.

And what about the monster we keep growing every time we wilt? What will happen when the next time TLP decides to march to the roads over some inconsequential issue that happens to hurt their sentiments? Is that in Pakistan's long-term interest? Slowly venturing the country into deeper fundamentalism? I fail to see the master stroke here.

Their defeat has to be political and from strength, strength will come after stabilizing economy.

Using bullet as some are asking for will only damage Pakistan.

Pakistan is not venturing into fundamentalism, it is just not going to happen.

There is no other solution apart from harshly dealing with these miscreants. This is the sixth time in the last three years that the TLP has taken to streets for one reason or the another. At least 20 police officers have been killed in the last 6 protests. The government has only ended up giving amnesty to the TLP after every protest - the blood of our police officers has been going to waste. This madness happens nowhere else!

Pakistan is not venturing into fundamentalism, it is just not going to happen.

As part of the agreement, they would no longer be considered a banned outfit and they would be given political space.

I am not sure what you have been watching, but, if you ask me, Pakistan is the most extremist nation on this planet.

Extremism has seeped into every segment of this country. Filing of blasphemy cases is at an all-time high. Christians nurses are beaten up by mobs simply for removing a sticker with Arabic text on it, 9-year old Hindu boy arrested for blasphemy (youngest person to be accused of blasphemy) for drinking water from a mosque, routine vandalism of Hindu temples ,forced conversions of minority girls and targeted killing of Ahmedis. This country is beyond the point of recovery.

In other countries, the rightwing forms a minority but in Pakistan, the rightwing is the majority!

A day after the government inked a deal with the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), Prime Minister Imran Khan has defended the agreement as the only viable option left at the government’s disposal to defuse tensions amicably, saying the move warded off further bloodshed.

Presiding over a meeting of the core committee of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), the prime minister took the members into confidence and briefed them about the pact, the details of which remain under wraps.

Giving further grounds for the decision, PM Imran explained he had never subscribed to the idea of using force as a strategy to resolve such matters, adding that the intensity of the standoff between the government and the group demanded a peaceful solution to it.

The government on Sunday had successfully reached an agreement with the outlawed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan party, putting an end to a 10-day protest. The pact came after around two weeks of clashes that left at least seven policemen dead and scores injured on both sides

The announcement was made at a news conference in Islamabad where Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Khan, prominent cleric Mufti Muneebur Rehman as well as TLP members Mufti Ghulam Abbas Faizi and Mufti Mohammad Ameer were present.

“The government of Pakistan and the TLP held detailed negotiations in an environment of mutual trust and an agreement has been reached between the two sides,” announced Mufti Munibur Rehman.

The negotiating team did not divulge any further details which, the members said, would be revealed at “appropriate time”.

PM to liaise with coalition parties

PM Imran has also summoned the leaders of the coalition parties after the cabinet meeting tomorrow, informed sources said.

The premier will deliberate on a host of political matters and take PML-Q, MQM, GDA and Balochistan Awami Party into confidence over the current situation.

The prime minister will also consult with allied parties on important government decisions, sources added

Govt concerned over ECP conduct

During the meeting, the committee members voiced concerns about the conduct of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), demanding it to withdraw its notices served on the federal ministers following their allegations against the country’s top poll supervisory body.

“We believe that ECP’s notices are unfair and they should be withdrawn,” Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said while speaking to the media after the core committee meeting.

After over a week-long nuisance and violence, life started returning to normalcy on GT Road near Wazirabad and the surrounding areas, as the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) supporters cleared the main road and moved to a nearby park.

The protesters reportedly will hold a peaceful sit-in at the park until a concrete progress on the implementation of their agreement, especially the release of TLP chief Hafiz Saad Rizvi.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan shared a short video clip of an aerial view of the GT Road at the TLP agitation site on Twitter. "GT ROAD Cleared! TLP Dharna shifted from GT Road to an open ground in Wazirabad away from traffic as per the agreement."

“Traffic flow [is back to] normal now & has NO issue of road blockage because of [the] protest, which has been shifted to [an] open vacant ground.”

He also appreciated the TLP leadership "for honouring their commitment", adding that the government was already “implementing its side of the agreement since last night”.

The state minister is also heading the steering committee formed to look after the implementation and preparation of the modalities of the agreement.

The government and the TLP had reached an agreement after the intervention of Mufti Muneebur Rehman and other scholars. On Sunday afternoon, the announcement was made in a news briefing.

However, the TLP protesters remained put with their sit-in on the main GT Road near Wazirabad even at night.

They were adamant on listening to the announcement of their main leadership on stage rather than the media.

After the dialogue in the evening, the first meeting of the steering committee was held that continued till late at night. Ali Muhammad Khan had announced it on social media, saying: "Modalities of implementation of agreement discussed."

At midnight, Mufti Muneeb and TLP Majlis-e-Shura members, who are part of the negotiating team, reached the sit-in. In the meantime, the government had released two senior TLP leaders and members of their Majlis-e-Shura including Allama Shafiq Amin.

On the other hand, the second meeting of the steering committee, chaired by Muhammad Ali Khan, was held in Lahore. The state minister in a statement on social media said, "The second meeting of the steering committee for implementation of agreement with the TLP concluded in Lahore.

"Major decisions taken and implementation mechanism devised."

TLP sources said that a list of detained leadership and workers named in the Fourth Schedule was shared in the steering committee’s meeting, adding that it contained over 2,000 names.

They said that the process for their release has been initiated.

Further, a Lahore police ASI, who was injured in clashes with the TLP and undergoing treatment at a hospital in Lahore, succumbed to his injuries. His funeral prayers were held at Qila Gujjar Singh police lines where – apart from his family members – a large number of police officers including IGP Rao Sardar Khan, CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, and colleagues were in attendance.

After the meeting, the state minister also attended the funeral.

Reportedly, the police officials expressed their reservations over the signing of the agreement by the government despite the loss of lives with the ministers.

Meanwhile, Ulema who played a reconciliatory role between the government and the TLP addressed the media upon their arrival in Karachi on Monday.

Mufti Muneeb said that the Ulema had demanded table talks as well as negotiations and the government approached them last Saturday.

Mufti Muneeb said that the government contacted Maulana Bashir Farooqi for talks and he had gone to Islamabad for the purpose.

“We had no personal or political agenda,” he said, adding that he talked to the TLP leadership and that the commitment made to it by the government was not fulfilled.

In response to a question, he said, “All schools of thought have come together on one page. I thank all of them.”

What's wrong with right wing? make it sound as if anyone leaning right or are right wing then that person should ceased to exit by force. - that makes you a problem and extremist not any one who prescribe to the right wing.

Right wing is not a minority in any country, ever heard of the US, UK, France, etc?

But being extremist in any "wing" is an issue and majority of Pakistani aren't extremist, but if you believe that to be true then problem is you not Pakistani.

Making blanket statement about Pakistan or Pakistani by calling them the most extremist nation on this planet is just ridiculous.

You and your righteous ilk wants Pakistani government to go to war against TLP and bloodied the streets of Pakistan, it will not happen because that is not the solution.

Now I wait for you to provide your solution to solve TLP issue, your comment without solution, you calling IK spine less without solution, you calling his wife names without solution, you calling every Pakistani extremists without giving solution or whatever comment you want to make to further your agenda in your mind is just a rant and waste of time.

So please include what you believe should be done to solve the issue and if its worth replying then I will reply otherwise it will be waste of time for the reader on this forum and mine.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1655518/punjab-govt-releases-more-than-800-tlp-workers-two-days-after-agreement

The Punjab government has released more than 800 workers of the banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), days after reaching a deal with the group to end nearly two weeks of protests and clashes, Punjab Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Raja Basharat said on Tuesday.

Talking to Dawn.com, he said the people who were released were those arrested during crackdowns on the protests — which started on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal — and raids.

They were released after scrutiny was completed, Basharat said, adding that workers against whom first information reports (FIRs) were registered would have to obtain bail from courts.

The minister said it was yet to be decided whether TLP workers who were detained under Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) 1960 would also be released.

In a statement, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Punjab for Information Hassan Khawar said more than 1,800 people had been taken into custody under MPO, of whom 860 had been released. He added that the remaining marchers would be released soon as well.

He further said meetings of the government's steering committee were being held to devise the plan for the implementation of the agreement inked with the TLP.

Meanwhile, the tortured body of a policeman was found from fields in Wazirabad on Tuesday, police spokesperson Nayab Haider said.

The TLP had launched the latest round of protests in Lahore on Oct 20, primarily to exert pressure on the Punjab government for the release of its chief, Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi, the son of its late founder Khadim Rizvi. The younger Rizvi has been kept in detention by the Punjab government since April 12 for “maintenance of public order".

However, TLP leader Pir Ajmal Qadri had later said the purpose of the move was "respect for the Holy Prophet (PBUH)", while also demanding Rizvi's release.

After three days of clashes with the police in Lahore, the TLP started a long march to Islamabad on Oct 22. Five police officials were martyred and scores of others from both sides received injuries in clashes in Lahore and Gujranwala as the marchers moved on the Grand Trunk Road.

The TLP leadership on Oct 30 asked the protesters to wait at Wazirabad for further instructions when the government and the group started negotiations.

On Sunday, members of the negotiating team from the government side claimed that they had reached an 'agreement' with the proscribed group but refused to divulge its details.

Mufti Munibur Rehman, who facilitated the talks along with some other religious leaders, had said at the time that details of the agreement would be made public at an "appropriate time". He, however, said its "positive results" would be visible to the nation next week or during the next 10 days.

He then used an English proverb "action speaks louder than words" to justify the move to keep details of the deal secret.

According to sources, the government assured the TLP leadership that it would unfreeze the accounts and assets of the proscribed outfit and take steps to lift the ban. They said the TLP was also assured that the government would not pursue minor cases against the TLP leadership and workers, but the cases registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act would be decided by courts.

Meanwhile, Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry said the TLP would be "over sooner than Sunni Tehreek" — a religious organisation that converted itself into a political party in 2012.

In a tweet, Chaudhry said that religious extremist groups "have capacity to use mob for violence but [their] capacity to stir politics has always been limited".

"At one point Sunni Tehreek was more violent than TLP but done and dusted this party will be over sooner, alliance with such party means [international] isolation," he added.

In Pakistan, rightwing means the use of violence to oppress minorities and get your way without any fear of the law. This is the difference. The TLP has always used violence and then all their crimes including the killing of police officers have been forgiven. This sort of posturing happens nowhere!

No other Muslim country barring those in a state of war have such a high number of religiously-motivated attacks as Pakistan does. You are free to refute me and refute any of the extremist incident I have mentioned above.

This is a country that adores the likes of Khadim Rizvi, Ghazi Khalid and Mumtaz Qadri. You would know Khadim Rizvi had the largest funeral in the history of Pakistan and thousands marched in support of Ghazi Khalid. These sort of incidents are unheard of elsewhere and even if they take place, the government intervenes to punish such open support of extremism and violence. The government is helpless and afraid of taking any kind of action against clerics and extremists because such group can get anybody killed including the prime minister. Everybody saw how Pakistan army soldiers chanted in favour of the TLP. There is a culture of fear and nobody is willing to touch the ticking bomb of extremism.

Was the cleric who falsely accused Asia Bibi of blasphemy for which she had to spend 8 years in prison punished? Since our inception, no cleric of extremist has been taken to task. The mullah who beat up a 9-year old Hindu child and accused him of blasphemy and ransacked Hindu homes was never arrested. You need to understand the power dynamics.

Regarding the TLP, it should be treated the same way as the TTP - with an ironist. The government should show zero mercy and arrest and imprison all their leaders. Bangladesh is marching ahead and prospering because they took on religious extremism and got rid of mullahs. The same formula needs to be applied in Pakistan.

The lawyer representing Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Saad Rizvi on Wednesday requested the Lahore High Court (LHC) to adjourn the hearing of the plea against Rizvi's detention in light of the agreement signed with the government.

The high court had taken up TLP's plea against the government's decision to keep Rizvi in jail despite court orders for his release.

During the hearing, Mian Pervaiz, who represented Saad Rizvi, said that his client wanted an adjournment of the case because "progress was taking place on the issue" between the government and the TLP.

However, LHC Chief Justice Ameer Bhatti said the case had nothing to do with the agreement signed between the two parties, but it was about the maintainability of the petition filed by the TLP against the government's order to keep Rizvi detained.

Read TLP will be treated as ‘militant outfit’

Justice Bhatti said the notification challenged by the TLP was already expired so how could the petitioner expect the court to continue hearing the case.

“You should have challenged the fresh order of detention,” Justice Tariq Saleem Shiekh, another member of the bench chipped in.

The LHC chief justice was visibly irked when the lawyer mentioned the agreement again, saying that the high court was not concerned with "agreements" but the legality of the plea.

At this, the counsel said he wanted more time to prepare the case and asked for an adjournment. CJ Bhatti subsequently adjourned the case till November 4.

Rizvi, who became the chief of the TLP after the death of his father Khadim Rizvi, was detained by the Punjab government in April this year under the Maintainance of Public Order (MPO).

On Oct 1, the LHC had ordered the government to release Rizvi, but the government had challenged the order in another petition. However, now it is being said that as per the secret agreement signed with the TLP a few days ago, Rizvi will be released from jail.

Difference betwen opposition and PTI is that opposition never did any march with TLP. PTI took advantage of the TLP dharnas and joined them to weakened the govt.

PTI is power hungry and will do anything to get into power.

‘ TLP workers did not leave any bone unbroken in his body,’ brother of killed police officer.

The policeman was kidnapped, beaten to death, stripped and thrown into a field. His body was found today morning. There are so many graphic videos on social media showing extreme violence by the TLP. One video shows bloodied police officers forced to chant TLP slogan.

This makes me sick! Policemen were pushed to the frontlines as always and used as fodder which resulted in the killing of five officers only for the government to strike a deal with the TLP and announcing an amnesty for the TLP. The blood of these five officers has gone to waste!

This is the fourth time that this has happened. Next time, police should refuse to obey orders of the government because the government lacks the guts to take any kind of decisive decision. The next time these goons come marching, Imran Khan and his cabinet members should be sent to fight them off!

https://tribune.com.pk/story/2327810/tlp-chief-adamant-on-french-envoy-expulsion-says-sheikh-rashid

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid has revealed that Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) Chief Saad Rizvi was adamant on the matter of expulsion of the French ambassador during negotiations between the government and the religious outfit.

His statement comes days after prominent cleric Mufti Muneebur Rehman had claimed that the TLP did not demand closure of the French embassy and expulsion of its envoy.

Rashid while addressing a ceremony in Lahore on Thursday said he convinced the detained TLP chief that the issue of expelling the French envoy will be taken up in parliament.

Responding to a question, the minister said he had been directed by Prime Minister Imran Khan that only one minister will speak about the matter of the TLP and added that the government committed to implementing the agreement reached with the religious party.

The government last Sunday had successfully reached an agreement with the religious outfit, putting an end to a 10-day protest. The pact came after around two weeks of clashes that left at least seven policemen dead and scores injured on both sides.

The announcement was made at a news conference in Islamabad where Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Khan, Mufti Muneebur Rehman as well as TLP members Mufti Ghulam Abbas Faizi and Mufti Mohammad Ameer were present.

The negotiating team did not divulge any further details which, the members said, would be revealed at “appropriate time”.

Speaking about other issues, Sheikh Rashid said he did not know who was involved in improving relations with the establishment.

"Ministries come and go. I have been in politics for 40 years and this is my 15th ministry. I am with Prime Minister Imran Khan and would continue to do so," he added.

The minister said that the PTI government will complete its constitutional term comfortably and will make all-out efforts to win the next general elections as well.

The bails followed the release of at least 2,000 TLP supporters detained by the Punjab police under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) ordinance.

Earlier this week, the Punjab government acquired the consent of the requisite number of provincial cabinet members to lift the ban on the religiopolitical outfit after the initial approval of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to revoke its proscription.

https://www.dawn.com/news/1656344/pm-imran-approves-summary-seeking-tlps-de-proscription-cabinets-opinion-sought

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday approved the submission to his cabinet of a summary seeking the revocation of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan's (TLP's) proscribed status.

The government had declared the TLP a proscribed outfit under the anti-terror law in April this year, after three days of violent protests by the group's members across the country.

As per the contents of the Ministry of Interior's summary, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, the TLP had made a request to the Punjab government for its de-proscription on April 29.

A prescription review committee (PRC) was then constituted to deliberate on the matter and it concluded that the government's decision to declare the TLP a proscribed outfit was "based on merit", the summary said recalling the history of the entire episode.

It added that the views of the law ministry had also been obtained on the matter.

"In view of the commitment and assurance given by the organisation" as well as "keeping in view the larger national interest", the provincial cabinet asked the federal government to consider de-proscription of the TLP, the summary noted.

"The prime minister has been pleased to accord permission for submission of the instant summary to the cabinet through circulation under Rule 17 (1)(b) of the Rules of Business, 1973," the summary stated, adding that "the approval of the cabinet is [now] solicited to de-proscribe the TLP under [...] Anti-Terrorism Act ,1997 on the recommendation of the Punjab government."

According to the Rules of Business, 1973, approval by circulation means that a summary is sent to federal ministers for their opinion. The ministers' recommendations are then sent to the prime minister after a stipulated period of time for further decisions on the matter. If a minister fails to respond within the stipulated time period, it is assumed that they have approved the recommendations made in the summary.

The matter of TLP's de-proscription again came under consideration following another days-long protest by the TLP, which started on October 20 in Lahore. The protest, which had turned violent, was primarily launched to exert pressure on the Punjab government for the release of TLP chief Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi, the son of its late founder Khadim Rizvi, and the expulsion of the French ambassador over blasphemous sketches of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The situation seemed to improve only after negotiations between the TLP and government started on October 30, with the members of the negotiating team from the government side claiming the next day that they had reached an 'agreement' with the proscribed group but refused to divulge its details.

Sources had told Dawn the TLP was assured that the government would not pursue minor cases against the TLP leadership and workers, but the cases registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act would be decided by courts. It also assured the TLP leadership that it would unfreeze the accounts and assets of the proscribed outfit and take steps to lift the ban.

Following recommendations of the federal government's steering committee and Punjab cabinet committee on law, the provincial government on Thursday sent a summary to cabinet members seeking their approval on lifting of the ban on TLP as early as possible. "If the opinion/approval will not be received from any minister in three days, it shall be deemed that the minister has accepted the recommendations contained in the summary," the document read.

The sensitivity and importance of the issue can be gauged from the fact that, according to sources, all provincial ministers immediately conveyed their approval to the chief minister's secretariat.

A senior Punjab government official said the chief minister would now forward the provincial cabinet's approval to revoke the TLP's proscription to the federal government for a final go-ahead. "The federal cabinet will approve the revocation and the interior ministry will eventually notify it," the official added.

While some 2,100 TLP activists have been released from police custody after the federal government-TLP agreement, the revocation of the group's proscribed status will automatically remove around 8,000 TLP activists from the Fourth Schedule — a list on which suspects of terrorism and sectarianism are placed under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997.

To snuff an evil such as the TLP, force is needed. Everything they stand for, everything they represent is detrimental for the future and welfare of this country. Sooner or later it will happen.

The government has decided to reveal the contents of the agreement with the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in the next 10 days even as fresh details emerge that the military leadership had advised against the use of force against the protesters after Prime Minister Imran Khan had authorised it, Dawn has learnt.

After having taken the political leadership on board during the proceedings of the parliamentary committee on national security on Monday, the government has in principle decided to make public the agreement it signed with the TLP but kept secret till its implementation was well under way.

Participants of the briefing told Dawn the senior military officials informed them about how the agreement came about and why it was decided to keep it secret for this long. According to these officials, the primary objective was to get the TLP protesters off the streets so the situation could return to normal. In this context, there was a concern that unveiling the contents of the agreement at an early stage could have triggered a public debate that may have impeded its implementation that in turn was linked with the ending of the protest. Now that the TLP has decided to call off the protest, the agreement will be made public in full, these sources claim.

Details of talks with TLP, TTP begin to surface

But before the agreement was stitched up, there was the delicate matter of how to deal with the protesters who were marching on to Islamabad by surmounting all obstacles laid in their way by law enforcement agencies. According to sources privy to the fast-paced developments taking place, the prime minister had authorised the use of force against the TLP marchers. Once this authorisation was relayed, the military leadership reviewed the operational dynamics and possible consequences of using force against the crowd. They calculated what it would entail to apply force against the marchers, and how many casualties could take place if the law enforcers were to use the last resort and open fire on those refusing to disperse. The leadership also factored into this calculation the probable blowback of casualties and its impact on public opinion.

Some of these details were shared by the military leadership with the participants of Monday’s briefing but many are now coming out in greater detail and clarity.

According to sources, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa presented all the pros and cons of using force against TLP workers when the political and military leadership gathered to discuss the issue at the National Security Committee meeting that took place on October 29. People who know the details of this meeting have confirmed to Dawn that the army chief said if the decision-makers were ready to pay the price for using force against the TLP, then the military would do as ordered. However, mention was made of the previous instances where the government had used force against citizens – Lal Masjid and the Model Town incident – and participants of the meeting were reminded of the consequences of both episodes.

By the time this meeting took place however, the government had already taken a tough line and Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had quoted the prime minister as telling the cabinet on October 27 that the government would not allow anyone to take the law into their hands and challenge the writ of the state. The information minister had also described the TLP as a “militant” organisation that had links with India.

The military leadership, however, advised against the use of force arguing that it was not a solution. It was then decided to opt for a negotiated settlement in order to, as one source put it, ‘avoid bloodshed’. This is when Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman was identified as someone who could mediate an agreement given his standing as a senior Barelvi cleric. He was accordingly flown in from Karachi, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Proverbially it may be history, but in reality the ink on the agreement is still not dry. Senior officials involved in the negotiation believe the agreement is ‘absolutely in favour of the state’ and that the TLP will have no justification to revert to violent protests again.

The unveiling of the contents of the agreement with the TLP – expected in the next 10 days – will likely spark off a debate that may involve a review of how decisions were made, changed and finally implemented in light of the difficult options available to the government.

Talks with TTP
The participants of Monday’s briefing by the military leadership were also apprised of the status of negotiations with the banned TTP that have made headlines in recent days. The information minister had confirmed after the briefing that the government and the TTP had agreed on a ceasefire for a month while these negotiations progressed in a bid to reach an agreement. However, the context of how and why the government of Pakistan entered into these negotiations is also becoming apparent.

High-level sources have told Dawn the government’s assessment is that it has a window of about six to eight months to strike an agreement with the TTP from a position of strength. This assessment is based on the following reasons:

(1) India was one of the primary supporters and financiers of the TTP based in Afghanistan. It provided money, weapons and other support so that the TTP could maintain its capacity to launch terror attacks on Pakistani soil. Since the takeover by the Taliban, India has withdrawn from Afghanistan and the TTP is weakened due to the lack of support it was enjoying. However, officials assess that India is likely to start regaining a foothold back in Afghanistan in the coming months and this could embolden the TTP. In addition, the TTP is also deprived of other sources of external support now that foreign players have withdrawn from Afghanistan. This situation may not persist for long.

(2) The Taliban’s dependency on Pakistan is also greater now and may decrease over time as other players enter the equation once international recognition is accorded. This dependency on Pakistan at this moment means the Taliban can push the TTP towards a deal that Pakistan favours. The Taliban, according to these officials, have greater incentive to ensure the TTP agrees to the terms being offered by Pakistan. The situation could be different six to eight months from now.

(3) Pakistan’s military and counter-terrorism capacity is primed to lean heavily on the TTP and this is buttressed by the fact that border fencing between Pakistan and Afghanistan is almost complete.

The participants of the meeting of the parliamentary committee on national security were informed that Pakistan’s ‘red lines’ in the context of the negotiations with the TTP were clear: TTP would have to accept the constitution and laws of the land and there would be no compromise on this. Sources also confirmed that those among the TTP who were involved in heinous crimes would be proceeded against as per law. Only ‘foot soldiers’ may be released.

In yet another important development, high-level sources have also confirmed that in order to ensure that lethal weapons left behind by the Americans in Afghanistan do not fall into the hands of TTP and other terrorists, Pakistan is buying back a huge cache of these weapons from the Taliban government who are now in possession of these weapons. It is estimated that US forces left behind nearly 200,000 deadly weapons. Taliban need the money and Pakistan wants to do whatever it can to make sure TTP fighters do not get access to them. According to these sources, Pakistan has already bought a large number of these weapons, which may be given to paramilitary forces like the FC.

While the negotiations with the TTP are being led by intelligence officials, the military leadership informed the participants of the briefing for the parliamentary committee on national security that once the basic agreement with the TTP was documented, it would be presented to the political leadership for final approval. This may mean that the parliament would get to debate it before it is officially signed by the government. Sources said if the political leadership rejected the agreement, the military would revert to kinetic actions against the TTP.

“However conflicts usually end on the table,” one source said. “In another six months, anything could happen in Afghanistan.”

The Punjab government has decided to withdraw 40 cases against Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Saad Rizvi and other activists of the party.

The Punjab home department noted that cases against the TLP head were being reviewed legally.

In the first phase, 20 cases against Rizvi and other party activists having a sentence of three years or less will be withdrawn while in the second phase, cases having a sentence of five years or less will be taken back.

On Thursday, Rizvi's name was taken off the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 by the Punjab government.

According to the order, Rizvi was enlisted on the “recommendations of the District Intelligence Committee, Lahore”.

The federal cabinet on Sunday revoked its earlier decision of declaring the TLP a “proscribed” organisation under the country’s anti-terrorism law after it committed that it would abide by the Constitution and the laws of the country.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said on Saturday that he hopes the details of the government's recent agreement with the recently de-proscribed Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) would come out within seven to 10 days.

On Oct 31, the government had reached an agreement with the previously banned outfit after almost two weeks of clashes that left at least seven policemen dead and scores injured on both sides.

When making the announcement, Mufti Muneebur Rehman, the designated mediator, had not shared any details, only saying that the specifics of the agreement would come to light at an "appropriate time".

Talking to the media in Islamabad today, the interior minister set a timeframe for the announcement of the details, saying: "An agreement has been decided with the TLP. Whatever is in that agreement will come out to the people in a few days."

"The hope is that whatever their matters have been decided, [their details] will come out in seven to 10 days and they will be positive," he added.

Rashid told the media that he was not an active part of the agreement process, which he said was negotiated by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Punjab government, adding that he had relayed the same to TLP chief Saad Hussain Rizvi.

It is pertinent to mention here that it was Rizvi's continued incarceration that had triggered TLP's protest before the outfit added to its demands the expulsion of France's ambassador over the publication of caricatures depicting the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in a French satirical magazine. Mufti Muneeb had later denied that the TLP was seeking the French ambassador's expulsion.

In his media talk today, Rashid said the interior ministry had proscribed the TLP on the Punjab government's recommendation, and after it withdrew its decision, a summary was sent to the cabinet and the group's proscribed status was revoked.

The interior minister was also questioned on Friday's meeting between PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. The minister downplayed the meeting, saying that the opposition would only tire itself out with any movements against the government at this time.

The interior minister was also dismissive of the government's reported disagreements with its coalition partners.

Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) Pakistan chief Saad Rizvi was reported to have been released on Thursday from the Kot Lakhpat jail, the party spokesperson stated.

As per videos and pictures shared, the TLP chief reached mosque Rehmatul-il-Aalimeen in Lahore shortly after his release. A large number of supporters had gathered outside the party headquarters to welcome Rizvi.

The TLP chief had been under detention since April 11. His release is said to be a part of the recent agreement reached between the government and the TLP following the party's recent sit-in.

On October 31, the government announced that an agreement had been reached with the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) after the latest round of dialogue between the two parties.

The pact came after around two weeks of clashes left at least seven policemen dead and scores injured on both sides

A week later, on November 7, the federal cabinet revoked its earlier decision of declaring the TLP a “proscribed” organisation under the country’s anti-terrorism law after it committed that it would abide by the Constitution and the laws of the country.

Four days later, Rizvi's name was taken off the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 by the Punjab government.

According to the order, Rizvi was enlisted in the list on the “recommendations of the District Intelligence Committee, Lahore”.

However, after the TLP was de-proscribed by the federal government, the name of Saad Rizvi was “deleted from the list of the 4th Schedule… with immediate effect”.

Sialkot is actually a small city. The place where this event took place this was wazeerabad, it comes before sialkot main areas. This is the industrial side which has all factories.

This is the same area where the two brothers 10 years ago were hacked to death.

When it comes to blasphemy, it only takes 15 mins for the situation to eacalate.

No one is gonna learn nothing from this event. After the investigation is done we will be celebrating that wow govt responded well they have done investigation. Most of the people they arrested would probably get released after few years. 10 years later alot of them would be out of jail.

Anti terrorism laws are being applied but those are for terrorist activities, and the lawyers can easily get that remove. Thus, it is important that the booking of the accusers be done under the right penal code.

While we would celebrate the investigation and the condemnation, no one will talk anout the root cause.

The root cause is the country's islaminization that has been on going. Making TLP an important body. Installing religious belief in the minds of the people to the extent that anything that is deemed sonful could get you in troible.

Thanks.

It’s scary something like this happened in the city, you’d hope the police could do something about it, but who would risk calling them and would they even act sufficiently - as I recall from the top of my head, during that incident in 2010 they may have been present while events were unfolding.

You have mentioned the TLP quiet a bit, what are their origins, I have read somewhere the government entertained a meeting with their leader but how have the TLP emerged in recent times and what’s their significance in this situation, were members of the mob supporters of the TLP ?

Please discuss the TLP and Pakistan Government issues here

They should bring mullahs on TV by their beards and ask them to disown the TLP and their heinous crimes. This slogan of Labaik Ya Rasul Allah needs to be reclaimed. Perhaps through government drives or drives or other sects to associate this slogan with charity or good deeds rather than hooliganism.

At the moment these loonies think that they are genuinely acting in support of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and their leaders have brainwashed them into thinking its a noble thing.

I recall seeing a video of Rizwi where he spoke about kids on motorbikes saying labbaik ya Rasullah as if it was a thing of pride. This phrase and slogan somehow need to be disassociated from these animals.

Memebers of the organisation ( at street level) need to be exposed and embarrassed publically and randomly so everyone is afraid. Social Media/Web history of random members seen at their events should be exposed. This may seem like a childish approach but it will be effective in shaming people. If there is nothing then make it up.

These miscreants need to be tackled on the front foot and beaten into submission.

Army to do what!?

Bro, you have no idea how widespread and deep into society TLP has its roots.

How can you even think of using force against masses.

These masses are jahil. Any supporter of this organisation needs to be beaten to a pulp and hung from trees.

They have humiliated Pakistan, Islam and our Holy Prophet (PBUH) with their antics.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has criticised PTI Senator Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry's move of meeting and presenting flowers to Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Saad Hussain Rizvi following the latter's release from jail in November as "absurd".

Fawad's remark came while he was speaking on Aaj News programme Rubaroo on Saturday about the lynching of Sri Lankan factory manager Priyantha Kumara in Sialkot over blasphemy allegations a day earlier.

The TLP was linked to the gory incident by users on social media, but the group distanced itself from the lynching and condemned it.

When asked about some government leaders embracing the TLP despite its violent protests in October leaving a number of policemen martyred in Punjab, Fawad singularly criticised Ejaz. "I think the manner in which Ejaz Chaudhry sahib [met] the TLP [leadership] was an absurd act. Why didn't [he] visit the homes of the policemen who were martyred?"

Senator Ejaz had met TLP chief Rizvi last month as a "gesture of goodwill" and to congratulate him on his release from jail. Pictures of Ejaz hugging and presenting a bouquet to Rizvi were widely shared on social media.

The meeting had come after the TLP and the federal government reached an agreement on October 31 after many rounds of talks and two weeks of clashes which left seven policemen and a number of TLP workers dead. The agreement was kept secret, but leaked information suggested consensus on removing the party from the list of banned organisations, Rizvi's release and setting TLP workers free that were held under various charges including anti-terrorism.

A week later, on November 7, the federal cabinet decided to revoke the declaration putting the TLP on the list of “proscribed” organisations under the country’s anti-terrorism law.

Apparently criticising his own government's handling of the crisis that emerged from the violent TLP protests, Fawad said "when the state does not own its martyred [security personnel], who will stand with it tomorrow?"

Speaking about the Sialkot lynching, the minister said the issue of extremism had to be tackled by all stakeholders and emphasised that the country's education system — especially for grades 6 to 13 — needed to undergo a review. He also attributed the failure in tackling the problem to widespread divisions among political parties.

He recalled that political decisions to curb extremism had already been taken in the form of the National Action Plan, saying until the state reclaimed its right to use power from private individuals, "we will not be able to come out of the quagmire that we are sinking into".

Referring to the shrinking space for discussion in the country, Fawad regretted that scholars who used to speak against extremism had been martyred or forced to flee Pakistan. "So who will give the opposing narrative when the government cannot enforce the right of life?" he asked.

Asked whether Kumara's ghastly murder would be the "turning point" in Pakistan's fight against extremism, the information minister said the problem would not end by simply hanging or imprisoning the culprits involved in the lynching.

"The problem is bigger than that. The problem is that you are producing rabid dogs such as these on a daily basis. How will you stop that?" he said, adding that the state will have to "put locks on the tongues and enforce the law on the people who are the reason behind these issues".

Fawad acknowledged that the subject was quite "complex", and said the Centre and the provinces will have to implement the code of conduct given in the NAP and review the action plan to fill the gaps in its execution.

The minister's comments come amid countrywide outrage after a mob comprising hundreds of protestors, including the employees of the factory Kumara was the manager of, tortured him to death on Friday and later burnt his body.

The First Information Report was registered against 900 workers of Rajco Industries on the application of Uggoki Station House Officer (SHO) Armaghan Maqt under Sections 302, 297, 201, 427, 431, 157, 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code and 7 and 11WW of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The applicant admitted that the protesters had slapped, kicked, punched and hit Kumara with sticks in his presence, and dragged him out of the factory on Wazirabad Road where he died. They then set the body on fire. The SHO said he was helpless in front of the mob owing to shortage of personnel.

Over the past two days, police have arrested scores of suspects, including 19 who played a "central role" in the brutal killing.

Wake up guys.

TLP has totally condemned this incident and many other like these in past and actually propagate against minority hate. But your mainstream media will never show you that.

Thanks.

TLP is basically a group that was formed to protect the honor of the finality of the prophethood. Basically, a very large section of Pakistani people feel threaten that the finality of the prophethood is being threaten by non believers in this faith like Ahmadiyyas. The also claim to protect and take action against anyone that would be involved in Blasphemy.

This group formed after Mumtaz Qadri murdered Salman Taseer. Qadri had became a hero and in jail he was given preferrable treatment. When he was hanged his funeral was attended by thousands of people in Rawalpindi. When taseer was assassinated, Khadim Rizvi was a govt employee and he celebrated the murder. The govt sent warning notices to Rizvi and he decided to resign from his govt post to preach what he believe in. His belief was that no one should dare to critisize the blasphemy laws or even try amending or removing them. Mumtaz Qadri had given these guys something to cheer about. Rizvi very sadly had a charismatic personality as the population were impressed easily by his hateful speeches as he knew how to use the punjabi language well which most people speak in Pakistan.

Anyways, TLP was still an unknown group. No one knew Rizvi. Than came PTI and its ambition to remove PMLN at all cost. TLP had started a march against PMLN as the law minister had tried to amend some laws. PTI joined and gave support to TLP along with the establishment ( there are videos of army personal giving out cash to these tlp workers when the protest ended). The issue here is PTI should not had given these guys support. Anyways, PMLN asked govt to stop them, the army said we will not attack our own people :).
Long story short, the law was reverted. This was seen as a huge victory by TLP. PTI would win election later on and uder the PTI govt tlp would again do marches, this time Asia Bibi was declared innocent from the charge of Blasphemy. TLP claimed that that the judges should be killed for this.

Now here are some interesting things that took place. Pmln asked govt in 2017 to arrest tlp workers and clear way which they did not. But in 2018, the same army removed the barriers and was able to disberse the tlp crowd.

Now you notice here how TLP is concerned with blasphemy only. This is where mess starts getting created, because the ideology of Rizvi is, anyone who commits blasphemy should be killed and not worry about law.

-2018, a student murders the principle of Islamia College in Charsadda. The murderer is a 17 year old boy for blasphemy
-2019, a student of bahalwapur govt collage, murders his professor for blasphemy.

In the above both cases, the students were inspired by Rizvi, they themselves stated this.

Now how Rizvi and TLP were getting famous? It was because in each Fall season when these guys decide to do protest, they would block the main intersection that connects Rawalpindi with the capital city of Islamabad. Movement would get bloocked. Our PTI govt would listen to their demands each time. Each time the TLP members would go back home happy, and more empowered than ever. Other people got inspired that these people are able make the govt bend over when ever they wanted.

Alot of supporters of Khadim Rizvi and TLP like to post stickers in their space of work. I once went to a local office of a typist who sit in these kachayree areas(areas dedicated for district courts and other typist for court or city related work). It was over there i first noticed those posters of Khadim Rizvi and TLP being sticked on the walls. Many people place them.

In this Rajco factory where the murder took place, it is being reported that TLP stickers were pasted on the machines by these fans. A TLP poster usually has a picture of Khadim Rizvi and Qur'anic phrases on them. One thing is very evident from this case is that these killers were also inspired by TLP. I have watched alot of the videos of Priyantha's murder. In all the videos you can say chants of Labaik Labaik, Ya Rasool Allah, Labaik! These chants are used by the TLP. Infact when TLP was first formed, its name was Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYP).

You will find many posters here deny TLP has got anything to do with it, but the videos are there for you to judge. Its like me killing someone and saying Jeyaye Bhutto and than someone claim that this guy was not influenced by PPP even though I am using there nara....

This is the menace that has been created in Pakistan. There are many much more things that have happened in the last few years that add up to the heavy Islaminization of the society that is going on. All these things add up. Murder under the umbrella of Islam never takes place randomly. There is always bad government policies involved in the root cause. Until and unless that root cause is not solved, we will be seeing more deaths like these and that could include many of us aswell

These masses are jahil. Any supporter of this organisation needs to be beaten to a pulp and hung from trees.

If only we had Sheikh Hasina as our leader. She had the guts to destroy the Jamiiat ul Islami party in Bangladesh, because of which Bangladesh is more of a secular country and doesnt have to deal with such parties

No one can change Pakistan until establishment is running behind the scene.
Establishment knows what to do when to do. Why TLP is not going anywhere?

No one can change Pakistan until establishment is running behind the scene.
Establishment knows what to do when to do. Why TLP is not going anywhere?

80% of the problems are created by the establishment themselves.

Each and every time they got involved with our politics, they tried to make poltical parties to make sure the parties winning lose support. And in the long run what happens those same parties that the establishment creates comes back to bite us back. Even the establishment cant control them.

This PTM problem going in Baluchistan. Many people dont know this but PTM was started by the establishment as they wanted to show the world that look there is a group taht is removing land mines in Baluchistan. But later the same group came back to haunt us.

Same goes for Nawaz shareef and Altaf Hussain. Parties created by them to ruin the support for PPP, but than same parties came back to bite them.

But when you use religion, than it becomes more dangerous. If Pakistan makes it a law today in the constitution that every male person in the country has to be circumcised. Trust me, if any govt tries to change that law, the religious party would even protect that. Once you bring in a religious law, you cant rectify it, thats the problem.

ISLAMABAD: The TLP has submitted its reply with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the party funding sources case requesting it to cancel ruling PTI’s request on the matter.

On Sunday, the PTI government had called upon the ECP to simultaneously scrutinise the funding sources of three major political parties of the country — PTI, PML-N and PPP — and make them public.

The ruling party urged the election supervisor to do the same for the TLP, JI and JUI-F in the second phase.

A two-member bench of the ECP heard the case.

In its response, the TLP maintained that the request of the PTI was inadmissible. It urged the ECP to reject the application after imposing a “heavy penalty” on the ruling party.

The TLP observed that according to law, the audit of accounts is carried out by a registered chartered accountant firm. It further said that the PTI’s plea was “misleading” and based on “lie”.

The hearing of the case was adjourned till January 19.

Lal Masjid’s Maulana Abdul Aziz dodged arrest on Wednesday after his guards put up resistance to the police party when he came out of the mosque after leading Zuhr prayers despite a ban on him from the authorities.

Soon after, female students of Jamia Hafsa blocked several roads, including Jinnah Avenue and the bridge near Kulsoom Plaza, to protest against the attempted arrest of the cleric.

However, confusion and lack of clarity persisted over the entire episode as statements and versions from both the police and Lal Masjid failed to answer several questions.

Situated at the centre of the capital city, Lal Masjid came to prominence when the then military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf carried out a full-fledged military operation in July 2007.

Ex-spy chief Faiz Hamid says talks with TLP held on 'govt’s orders'

Responding to the Faizabad sit-in commission’s questions, former spicy chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid categorically denied allegations of conspiring against the then-government, sources told Geo News Thursday.

The former spymaster was summoned by the panel — investigating the 2017 sit-in staged by the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) — thrice but he failed to appear before it.

He was then sent a questionnaire by the commission to which he responded and stated that he held negotiations with the TLP on the directions of the government.

According to the sources, the commission had summoned the former army officer on January 2 (Tuesday) but he didn't appear before the panel.

This was the third time that the former ISI chief remained absent from the hearing being conducted by the inquiry commission, which earlier summoned him in the second week of December last year and then on December 29, sources said. However, the first notice couldn’t be delivered.

In November last year, the caretaker federal government constituted the inquiry commission for the implementation of the Supreme Court's 2019 Faizabad verdict.

The probe panel was constituted on the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan under the chair of retired IGP Akhtar Ali Shah after the apex court rejected the fact-finding committee report constituted by the government.

On November 15, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa remarked that the commission would be empowered to summon anyone, including former army chiefs, prime ministers, and chief justices.

The inquiry commission is required to submit its report to the top court on January 22.

The probe panel had also summoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif on January 3 but he too didn't appear and requested the commission to send him questions.

He has now been sent a 21-point questionnaire to answer.

Earlier, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, ex-interior minister Ahsan Iqbal, then-secretary to PM Fawad Hasan Fawad, and other senior officials serving in Islamabad and Punjab who were involved in the episode had appeared before the probe panel.

Faizabad verdict
In November 2017, the top court took suo motu notice of the three-week-long sit-in, which was held against a change in the finality-of-Prophethood oath, termed by the government as a clerical error, when the government passed the Elections Act 2017.

The sit-in was called off after the protesters reached an agreement with the government.

On February 6, 2019, a two-member bench of the apex court comprising the now-CJP Isa and Justice Mushir Alam recommended that persons, issuing an edict or fatwa to harm another person or put another person in the harm’s way must be dealt with iron hand and prosecuted under relevant laws.

It also ruled that the intelligence agencies must not exceed their respective mandates. Later, the bench disposed of a suo moto case regarding the 2017 Faizabad sit-in staged by the TLP.

The 43-page verdict issued by the two-judge bench and published on the apex court's website read: “Every citizen and political party has the right to assemble and protest provided such assembly and protest is peaceful and complies with the law imposing reasonable restrictions in the interest of public order.

So the Nooras wanted the talks and are today using the talks to beat Faiz. Interesting that Bajwa was the army chief and some other guy was ISI chief but both have been given a free pass. Faiz played a big part in IKs removal, so I hope he is nailed but along with all the others.

TLP stages sit-in at Faizabad

In a statement, TLP leader Saad Hussain Rizvi said that the sit-in will continue until their demands are met.

He emphasised that the party will not budge until the government officially boycotts Israeli products and provides medical and food aid to Palestinians.

TLP supporters have gathered in large numbers, chanting slogans and demanding action against Israeli atrocities.

The sit-in has caused disruptions in the city, with the metro bus service from Faizabad to the Secretariat suspended and limited to the IG Police Station.

The war started with Hamas’s October attack on southern Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,195 people, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli figures.

Israel responded with a military offensive that has killed at least 38,345 people in Gaza, also mostly civilians, according to the health ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza.

The Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on Friday announced an end to its week-long protest in Islamabad after government negotiators reached an understanding with party leaders, calling Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "terrorist and war criminal".

The government negotiators also accepted another of their demands, assuring that it would ramp up efforts to help out Palestinians, who have been facing Israeli atrocities since the clash began in October last year.

The TLP's decision came this afternoon after the incumbent government engaged them in successful negotiations.

Before the TLP started its protest sit-in at Faizabad Interchange almost a week ago, the party's activists, led by their top leader Saad Rizvi, took out a protest rally from Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi to Faizabad last Saturday.

The TLP, in their demands, asked the PML-N-led government to officially boycott Israeli products and send food and medical aid to Palestinians, especially those suffering from Israel's relentless military aggression in Gaza. One of their demands was that Pakistan’s government declare Israeli PM Netanyahu a “terrorist.”

"The federal government will continue and boost its efforts to help the Muslims of Palestine and the TLP people will assist the government for the purpose," Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah said, flanked by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and TLP leaders.

"A shipment of goods comprising fruits and medicines weighing more than 1,000 tonnes will be dispatched to Palestine before July 31," Sanaullah said.

He added that Israel emerged as a terrorist state and PM Netanyahu committed war crimes against innocent citizens.

"The Israeli PM is committing war crimes in his personal capacity," the PM's adviser said, adding that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had condemned Israeli atrocities in Palestine during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit held earlier this month in Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana.

The government will push ahead in its condemnation of Israel in the future as well, he said, adding that the government would seek to tap into every resource possible to extend assistance to people in Gaza as well as condemn the Zionist state and its head of government involved in terrorism against innocent Palestinians.

"Netanyahu is a terrorist who has perpetrated war crimes," the former security czar said, calling on the comity of nations to bring the Israeli PM to task.

He ALSO called on world leaders, particularly the Muslim world, to play their due role in the resolution of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Palestine.

In their talks with the TLP leaders, the government negotiators have also decided that the government will boycott the products of Israeli companies and the companies that are directly or indirectly involved in the barbarism being committed in Palestine.

The government also decided to form a committee that will ascertain the details of companies and products that Pakistanis consume without knowing their truth.

The weeklong protest posed serious traffic problems to the residents of the twin cities as the TLP workers in large numbers remained camped at Faizabad Interchange, a main traffic junction linking the two cities.

The sit-in brought vehicular traffic to a complete halt between Murree and Rawalpindi, as well as Peshawar and Lahore. The activists effectively also blocked the Islamabad Expressway, which caused massive gridlocks in the area, leaving commuters facing troubles for hours at a stretch.
