Unless we change the test format, best option is to simply bowl our slower fast bowlers like Abbas. They will keep themselves fit, and bowl with better accuracy and induce wickets that way.
The proper fast bowlers will get injured and outperformed by guys like Abbas on flat UAE pitches. So what's the point of playing them?
We are coming to the situation where if you're good enough to play LOI as a fast bowler, you don't want to play tests. Tests are mainly for guys who can not get into the LOI sides.
England's the only place which really suits fast bowlers these days, you can slow the ball down and make it talk. Other places are dead pitches or places you need to bowl quick to bounce sides out (which leads to injuries from the fast bowlers). Otherwise you have to bowl like Abbas, Philander and just hit good places accurately again and again to create pressure. Which is why guys like Mcgrath were so successful in the modern era.
Which is why I think test format needs changing. The current format forces a comprise of quality of players and is less marketable for the general public. The test championship is a good idea, but not enough, drastic changes need to be made.
