How to make friends?

I have just moved to the UK for my university but I can't make any friends, It's been already a week here and I have just made handful of Pakistani and Indian friends. Britishers just don't seem to be interested in outsiders. The interaction here is really low and everyone minds their own business rather than making new friends.

At uni if you're new just join an organization, even easier, go to class a bit earlier, sit down next to someone you think you'd want to get to know, and just say hey i'm new here, my name is Mann, then they'll say, Mann? Bet people make a lot of puns out of that, then you say haha yeah, and then the convo goes on and on. Then you make plans to study sometime, or they introduce you to other people, etc etc etc.

At uni people are there to meet other people in addition to studies, since it's its own little world.

Join clubs at uni and be out and about even on your own. You are bound to meet new people. Where are you originally from?

Not a lot of Emiratis but a lot of Saudi, Kuwaitis, Omanis, Egyptians

I dont care about the gender to be honest. Yeah but would be more happy if they are locals

I'll let you know from my experiences

1. Understand the culture and interests of the generation that you are interested to make friends with. A quick look at the social media trends of the place that you are helps a lot. A lost of people are actually shy at first and don't want to make the first leap but if you just initiate a conversation with context things tend to go deep.

2. Find out the cool spots where locals hang out and be there. I do see a lot of Pakistani people on streets and unis but I never see them in a museum or other such places. They are never there and if you just develop an interest in such stuff, you'll definitely find people who would like to befriend you.

3. Sports etc. are a good way to have deeper links.

4. It's just basically a process and not something that you can switch on and off with a simple move.

Well for the same reason you don't have interest in making friends with Asians, maybe the British share those reasons. They probably find it weird if some random fellow approaches them, you need to find some common interest.

By Asians I am referring to Far Eastern people. They don't/can't speak proper English and stay within their circle

A week is a short time. If you are from abroad, you will find it harder to make friends with British people because there will be difference in culture and mindset.

Dont try to make friends with people, be norma and be yourself. If people then want to be friends they will, no need to force the issue as you're here to study not to socialise.

Loneliness at university is a problem when everyone else seems to be having so much fun.

I didn’t make any real friends until well into second year.

Just be yourself and genuine people will enventually turn up.
