How to prevent hair loss?

Seborrheic dermatitis? I've known people who had it, and yes the steroidal cream just ruins the skin. You get acne instead, which doesn't resolve itself even after years of giving up the medication.

I was 16 I think and my steroid cream had stopped being effective. Thought I'd just buy a more potent form to look good for my crush and applied five layers of it for the night. Was probably the worst mistake of my life. Don't try this at home guys

Don't know what's worse - dermatologists not telling you to be careful with these things and not to use for more than a couple of weeks a time or a 16 year old able to buy anything without a prescription.

So how did it clear itself all of a sudden ?

Great to know though. MashaAllah.

Mostly reading about what worked for people online. Then finding my own solution through trial and error. Took a couple of years but I've gone from looking like what you see on Google images to not being able to tell I ever had the condition. Frankly I didn't care much about how it looked. It was the pain and discomfort that made me so obsessive about finding a solution.

And thank you

How old are you?

Mix jojoba oil + olive oil + lavender oil + vitamin E + castor oil in round about equal quantities (jojoba a bit less). Apply regularly. Forget hairfall, in some cases it possibly helps to regrow hair.

And nowadays even a completely bald man has affordable options like PRP (plasma rich platelets) treatment which regrows hair naturally. Although you would lose it again in few years if you have male pattern baldness but its affordable to do it again for few more years.

Better yet, sport a bald look and dont give a damn..i dont have a hairloss problem but i shave my head every winter. Its the best feeling ever..no tension of maintaining hair at all lol but i guess its a good feeling only when u know your hairstyles are in your control.

Wouldn't recommend anyone having Lavender oil at more than 1 percent of the total. Essential oils can be dangerous at higher quantities.

Heisenberg Sir, Waiting for your reply.

First of all it is important to know that you do have SD. Sometimes it can be misdiagnosed but we will assume you have it for now. You haven't mentioned having it on your face so I will also assume you only have it on your scalp and so it should be easier to treat because I think you have a mild case of it.

I think it would be good if you can Google the symptoms for your own peace of mind too. Don't go on the pictures because they are the absolute worst case scenario (something I had). SD is a chronic and lifelong condition, but contrary to popular opinion you can be clear of it 99-100 percent of the time if you find your solution. Your skin is a complex organ and everything that works for one person will not work for you. For example, if I apply an ointment twice a week and it works for me, it may not necessarily be enough for you. Right now though, i'd like you to follow my advice completely, at least for two to three weeks.

SD is fungal in nature. We have to treat it both internally and externally. Remember whatever I tell you, may sound hard at first but it becomes a lot easier once you are clear. You can take stuff out of it and see how much you can get away with. But only when you are sure you are clear. It spreads easily when it is present so you need to be aggressive while it's there.

External treatment:

First, you will get a SLS/SLES free shampoo which you will use for the rest of your life. That i am afraid will not be an option. And I recommend this to everyone even if you don't have any scalp condition.

Additionally, you will get a couple of anti dandruff shampoos. My recommendation would be H&S and Selsun blue. Active ingredient in both are different but very good against the fungus that causes SD. Different is also important as I will explain later. Get a packet of baking soda (not baking powder please) and a bottle of Apple cider vinegar - the two best natural topical anti fungals.

Lastly, you will need coconut oil. The cold pressed kind. It needs to say cold pressed and should not be the refined kind because that kills off its anti fungal abilities. If you live in Karachi, you can go to Saddar where they press the oil out in front of you and that should suffice. If coconut oil doesn't suit you for whatever reason, you can use grapeseed oil which doesn't have anti fungal properties but it will do for the most important reason we will be using it.

So this is how it will go - you will apply coconut oil at night before you sleep and wash it off the next morning with your SLS free shampoo. The coconut oil should not stay on your scalp for more than 12 hours so try to put it on before sleeping and don't put it on in the day. This is because while coconut oil has good anti fungal properties it also has something that the SD fungus feeds on. It has a positive net effect unless it stays longer than 12 hours. Grapeseed oil doesn't have any anti fungal properties as such but it protects yours scalp from getting too dry when you shampoo which in turns produces more oil and that's always yummy for fungus. However you don't need to worry about Grapeseed oil staying in your hair for too long. I'd start off with coconut oil. You need to have oil in your head before you shampoo at least until you are clear.

After you shampoo your hair you will use a spray bottle to spray Apple cider vinegar on your scalp. It may burn but that's a good thing and the burn will be gone in a few minutes. It may also have a really horrifying smell but don't worry because you will wash it off in about ten minutes. It is important you use Apple cider vinegar after washing off your shampoo and leave it on for at least 5 minutes. 10 is good and you can wash it off. The rest of the day you will not let water touch your scalp. The following day you can shower but again don't let water touch your scalp.

At night you will repeat the process, coconut oil at night, shampoo in the morning with a SLS free shampoo and a good spray of Apple cider vinegar and then a final rinse with water to wash it off. Make sure the Apple cider is sprayed on your scalp and not just your hair. So basically you are going to shampoo every other morning only. Not every day and not every two days etc. Thats very important. Obviously you will use coconut oil the night before the morning you will shampoo only.

Let's say you washed your hair on Monday morning as I have told you to wash it (coconut oil, SLS free shampoo, Apple cider rinse), next will be Wednesday. Friday will be different though because you will use your anti dandruff shampoo instead of SLS free shampoo. That will be the only difference on your third wash. Then you'll do a normal SLS free shampoo on Sunday and again on Tuesday. Thursday will be Anti dandruff shampoo again except this time you will use a different anti dandruff shampoo. So if you used H&S last time, you will use Selsun blue this time. It is important to rotate the anti dandruff shampoos because they stop being effective otherwise. In short, your third wash will be an anti dandruff shampoo. You can go longer without it once you are clear. But it's also important not to just wash with it every time because that would make sense right? No because it doesn't work like that and it also has SLS which we don't want to use on every wash. I also told you to get baking soda but let's ignore it for now because it's more important for the face and we will only use it on scalp if this does not get you 100 percent clear. You will do this for two three weeks at least and tell me how it goes. You can be more flexible after it's clear which you will have to experiment with.

Internally:

All my dermatologists told me that what you eat has no effect on your dermatitis. That turned out to be the biggest BS a doctor has ever told me. While you are on this regiment you will absolutely avoid everything with milk. Especially milk itself. So avoid stuff like cheese but avoid milk completely 100 percent. Once you are clear you will be able to introduce it back and see how much of it your body can take. Milk might not be a cause for you at all but it's better to eliminate it for the first three weeks to be sure. Some others have had problems with stuff like sugar and gluten but it's not a trigger for me. I can also have anything now except direct milk without it causing an issue. So I enjoy my pizza and whey protein shake. You need to avoid it until it's gone. If your case is really bad you might want to consider other elimination diets too but for most people it's milk so start with that until you are clear.

Lastly but most important, raw garlic. Best anti fungal in the world period. You will cut up a clove of garlic into small pieces and swallow it with water every night. Repulsive for some but I was desperate enough and it is the best thing I tried. An alternative is Biotin but it gave me side effects at 5000 mcg like acne and it wasn't as effective but still good if you refuse to have raw garlic. Just do it until you are clear at least. Also try to get zinc 30 mg and have have it once a day but most important here is garlic and avoiding milk and it's products until you are clear.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know if you have it on your face and describe the condition on your scalp in detail. Does it itch all the time? Dead skin come off which I'm assuming you are confusing for dandruff. Looks like raw skin once dead skin comes off? Burn? Ask me any questions you might have. Good luck

I'm a similar age. How long have you had it? Since puberty? Talking of SD

I've had dandruff since 12-13. But this extreme hair loss came only a year or half back, I have very little dry skin on my face as well on the nose area rest all my face is clear.

The only thing that bothered me was extreme hair loss which made me rush towards the doctor who diagnosed it as SD.

What you describe as dry area is most likely SD yes. It happens near the nose/on the sides of it. Your hair loss will stop as long as you don't let it happen for too long. Your hair should come back as you are young enough. Let me know if you'll be doing what I told you.

Yes it's on the sides of the nose. But not a big patch, tiny one. Will have to collect all the stuff first.

How much hair you used to loose while having shower/shampoo?

The good thing is that it's not expensive. You should be able to get all of that around a 1000 rupees and it should last a good while.

When I had SD. An insane amount. One time I had a really bad patch of dead skin near my hairline and I tried to force it out with a lice comb and my hair literally came out with it. Like half an inch of it. Never grew back properly because I think I did some lasting damage there. Other than that my hair is pretty great now. Doesn't fall more than it should.

Then I think I have SD as well because I have insane hairfall. Where could I get SLS Free shampoo? and I'm currently using Dove as regular one.

Hairfall is just one symptom of SD but not necessarily. Your hair could be falling for a number of reasons. Can you confirm if your scalp has an itchy and burning sensation? Is the dead skin 'stuck' to your scalp and really hard to take off with your fingers? If you manage to take it off is there red and raw skin underneath? These are some of the symptoms. Your hair falls because the dead skin and inflammation doesn't let your hair folliciles breathe.

You could get SLS free shampoo from Neco's in Karachi. Check out the ingredients in your current shampoo and one of the first ones will be sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate which is SLS. It is a cleaning agent far too harsh for someone with SD and even normal people. It also exists in what cleans your dishes. We don't want to strip our skin of the natural oils so we want to use something that doesn't contain something so harsh. There's also a shampoo which I use. It's called seka ki and doesnt have SLS. You can get it in most super markets - black/maroon bottle with a white top. You'll find an SLS free shampoo to not lather so easily.

Burning sensation? No not at all, I think it feels as normal as I've ever been. Itch? Well not really, I barely feel like itching in my head.

Maybe it's just a very mild case. Trust me it's painful when it's proper SD.

Brother, dont worry. Use a mixture of black castor oil, emu oil, coconut oil and rosemary oil. This should help you to get rid of the dandruff and help with hair growth. Your doctor should give you a special shampoo for your condition. Lastly, make sure that you excercise daily. This should help to clear your issue. I seen results with the oils personally. I currently have no hair loss alhumdililah but had some issues in the past.

Worst comes to worst, you can get some medical treatment buT dont worry.

You mostly get your baldness from your mother's side. Look at your mom's father and brothers. Sometimes you can't stop your baldness.

Old wives' tale that was debunked long ago. It can be inherited from either parent. I get mine from the spear side. The distaff side all have full heads of hair.

I try to pull my hair out with finger alongside slight force and it just falls over at my hand or finger. That is what situation is currently. I have tried different oils as well.

Dont pull your hair out pal. Go and see a dermatologist even if its private. They will assess your hair and reach a conclusion. There are many treatments out there now that dont have the nasty side effects. I have read good review about PRP and A cell. Currently, if you hair is extremely greasy and full of dandruff, get them cut short. I know someone who had greasy and hair full of dandruff, this resulted in hair loss. Emu oil, castor oil gave them good results. My research reveals that Rosemary oil is as effective as Minoxdil but with no sides. You should give these oils a chance, use them for 6 months to see whether theres progress.

Worst thing you can do is panic and stress.

I started taking Biotin 10,000 MCG when I faced this issue, it worked for me. Not only hair, my nails grow so fast now.

In my case, reason for hair-fall was nutritional deficiency, I lost 20 KGs last year.

Unexplained weight loss is serious. Losing 20 Kgs in one year is a lot. You should go to a doctor and get a complete examination done.

If anyone could help me or guide me, I'm facing alot of hairfall issues, And it seems my hair's are breaking away, As I push my hands through I get a couple of hairs in my hand, While having shower/shampoo a bundle of hairs break down in my hand. What could be the solution? I do have dandruff as well but from a long time, However I'm facing extreme hair loss from this year only.

Now-a-days it is quite fashionable to go completely bald. Instead of being half-bald, shave it all off and wear a stud in one year. You will be super-cool if you live in the West, but not so much if you are in the SC.

Ok look at both sides then. Remember, women don't like baldmen unless they are basketball players.

Dermatologist recommended some lotion, gave me some hair oil mixed with some natural stuff as well as a medical conditionor now. My hairs are NOT full of dandruff, I dont even feel dandruff much, However my hairs break away alot.

I don't think even doctors properly understand what the situation is. I don't have any redish spot on my skin, I don't face inflammation or any such issue however all they've been giving me are shampoo and lotions which I've used for 1.5 months for nothing. Don't really feel it's something like SD

Update, I visited another dermatologist, And he told me this is some Alopecia (Genetics Stuff).

I too don't think it's SD because there is barely any dandruff now, I never had any inflammation or red rash. And if I look closely at my root of my hair's in mirror there is no red skin either.

Amyone can help me out? Dermatologists are having different diagnosis, I dont even know what is wrong with me

Is TalentSpotterPk there?

After trying some medication previously for no use, I found out that not only head, but hairs from all over my body are falling over, including bundles of chest hair during shower.

I don't think it's due to SD from which I had taken medication.

My hair is very soft and very curly . I've been having a lot of dandruff on my hair since I was 12-13. Hair used to fall off occasionally and I never cared.

But towards the time I reached college (18-19), the hair fall started increasing heavily, even my regular barber started mentioning it .

Once i took up my job around 22, its been extreme. Now I have an advancing forehead and very little hair density everywhere.

I've tried ayurveda, shampoos and even some prescription shampoos. Nothing seems to work . My dandruff shown no signs of coming down.

Any tips guys .?

I have naturally thin hair due to genetics, but it doesn't fall off, also due to genetics, but I wanted a more fuller head of hair and I've been taking biotin supplements since the last two months and have seen a drastic improvement in hair volume.

True man, baldness isn't necessarily a bad thing. Zidane is another one of those people who made the bald look really cool.

Do a pre-emptive strike and shave it all off.

Win-win.

Did you take an medical diagnosis before the supplements ?

And is Biotin the thing that causes side effects for the ehmm, reproductive aspects ?

No idea about the treatment options. Though I think it's unpredictable and can go into remission on its own.

@heisenerg I loose some hairs while sleeping, scratching hairs however I loose them in bundles when they are wet. Also I loose more hair from the body where hairs are longer in length i.e the chest, legs and head

Can't watch the video right now, but hairpieces are reportedly very good these days, in that they look real, can be washed, can be styled... while they're new. They use human hair, and the base matches your skin tone. The trouble is, after a few months, the hair loses its luster, it isn't getting any nutrients because it's dead, and you have to get a new one unless you want to give the game away, because it starts looking obvious. I wouldn't get one even if I did have the money to spend on them, but a number of celebrities reportedly wear them, and they are so realistic that you can't tell.

True, people must change them like 2 or 3 times a year; they must be cheaper then hair transplants though. I think Enrique Iglesias is one of those celebrities

nah no sides at all, fin side effects are extremely rare and its literally just internet hysteria. been on it for 4 years. and it doesnt affect your ability to conceive in any way

Mashallah my hair is holding on fine. May be something for the future. I read on the internet and a lot of people complained about the side effects. Don't want to end up with sexual dysfunction if I take fin.

Ben Affleck is another one who is widely reported to wear a piece.

I'm not sure if it is cheaper than the transplant in the long run. The transplant is permanent, and it is your own hair. The only drawbacks are scarring, which, if you're willing to pay more for the FUE, can be avoided, and the lack of the sort of full coverage that a piece can give you, but since hair thins with age, even for those who have full heads of hair, the transplant will look far more natural.

I was on it for fifteen years. Eventually it stops working, and it is far more efficacious for the crown than with the hairline. You may be one of the ones for whom it keeps working and maintains the hairline too, but that isn't usually the case.

I suppose so. I considered it, but at that point I had already decided to just forget about it, shave it all off, and move on with my life.

With the transplant you"ll never quiet achieve the desired density though, in the UK I think the pieces cost like 500 quid and if you change it 2-3 times a year you could expect to pay around 1500-2000 at least annually. Also in that video if you've seen it, definitely a toupe right ?

It wouldn't hurt but I don't see how it can cause a major role in combating SD. Sorry I just saw your posts. I discussed some symptoms with you but at that point you had no itching and rough patches which sounds like SD but could be psoriasis or any other number of conditions. Please follow the plan for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

It would help for sure but not close to the regiment I posted. No one single thing will get rid of it or even eliminate by any significant amount. I'll even tell you what happens when you start using Salicylic acid - you'll be clear in a couple of days and think you've found the cure but it'll be back in two weeks and that will be that. And that goes for anything effective against SD. The fungus kind of gets used to it. See my detailed post for more info again. If it's SD of course

I'll even tell you what happens when you start using Salicylic acid - you'll be clear in a couple of days and think you've found the cure but it'll be back in two weeks and that will be that. Yes I noticed white spots go away once we apply steroid lotion and come back after a while. Also they started to show up on my forehead (dandruff patch) and when you scratch up it gets red.

I dont know how I got into this situation, when I made this thread (3 month back)I had no itching, redness etc just huge hairloss.

Also I loose alot of chest hair and put up torch over there and they too we're full of dandruff although no visible spots there but skin looked slightly dry.

Heisenberg another thing, This dandruff/SD is treatable but not curable? Even with ACV and Coconut Oil regime?

And can I use other oils in my hair as well to promote growth and healthy hairs?

I do loose hairs from legs as well when I rub the wet hairs firmly or try to pull the out, otherwise they are fine.

I do NOT loose hairs from arms or hands at all. Although I think hairs from nose do come out.

It is possible for SD to be on the chest as well. Do baking soda and acv till it goes away.

You probably had the onset of symptoms then, as diagnosed by your doctor, which have become more severe. That's how it goes.

Start with what I have told you to do. Let's take it step by step. I like to call it a cure. Once you're free of the stuff it's s lot easier to manage which you'll figure out by trial and method. Gotta be aggressive at the start.

Stop trying to pull your hair out. All of us shed hair everyday. Relax

Also before you do anything please throw away the steroid cream. Don't go anywhere near it.

Roger that, gonna throw it away as well as liquid parafin.

I asked a guy to bring me coconut oil (cold pressed), he said he will get it in the morning. I have got apple cider vinegar with me (braggs).

SLS shampoo I've ordered online.

I usually have a busy routine with study and other stuff to be honest but I do want to ensure that I don't loose out my hairs. I think my mother also has this issue of SD possibly from last two years and she has too shed alot of hairs, her scalp is much worse than mine right now.

It's in my ears as well I think, Can SD be inside the nose too?

You can get American Garden ACV which I've found to smell the least revolting from any supermarket but anything is fine.

Baking soda you will get for less than 50 rupees in any supermarket. Just make sure it's not baking powder. Baking soda is different.

Cold pressed is what you're looking for so that's good. Go on gonatural on fb, they have cold pressed coconut oil if you are not sure where to get it.

And just to be sure here, you want a SLS free shampoo; not SLS shampoo. You can get seka ki from any supermarket which is SLS free. Also there is a place called neco's who sell it. And get a couple of anti dandruff shampoos like head and shoulders and nizoral and change them around as I have told you above on the days you have to use them.

I have ordered SLS Free Shampoo from conatural.

Coconut oil will get in the morning from bazaar.

Have got the anti dandruff shampoos and ACV (braggs)

Don't worry. It takes up about 10 15 minutes of your day once you get used to it

Yes absolutely. Use your anti dandruff shampoo on your ears and nose every couple of days while taking a shower. Use ACV on that after rinsing out the shampoo. Except inside the nose or near the eyes. Don't use ACV inside the nose or near the eyes. It burns too much.

You also mentioned forehead. So here's an easy fix for SD on the face. Use baking soda as a face wash every day. You don't have to use a normal face wash. It has amazing cleansing abilities on its own and it kills SD like nothing else. Just take a little inside your palm and drop enough water in to make it a paste and rub it on your face like you would a normal cleaner. Leave it on for around 15 30 seconds and wash off. Use a cotton pad to then out on some ACV and wash it off in 5 minutes. This can obviously be done in the shower.

These days no SD on forehead, I applied aloe vera gel, honey and lots of stuff just as it started to appear and haven't showed up since now. My face is clear, it showed up slightly a week back but applied aloe vera gel again and it disappeared immediately.

My major problem is hairloss, SD is not really visible anywhere else on my scalp (it doesn't look bad one bit), Just extreme hairloss and recently started to itch and burn alot in head.

Heisenberg now I'll apply ACV only once and continue with coconut oil routine?

Also I can apply other oils too for hair growth and healthy hairs? After 2 weeks regime?

Your hair loss will stop once you are clear of SD

In your case, how did it spread? Like at first hairloss, then extreme solid dandruff that blows up from skin and itching/burning sensations showing up with time?
