Much of the focus has been on the bowling lineup and the team combination so far but what about the batting?

Shan and Abid have struggled to make any score of note on the tour so far. Abid was also injured in the previous practice match and Shan hasn't made a fifty yet, though he has gotten chances in some of the innings.

Azhar hit a hundred in a practice game but otherwise is getting out for low scores. His recent form outside Asia hasn't been promising.

Babar has hit a couple of fifties. He's just played one Test innings in England and currently averages infinity, OK, but this tour is really important for him.

Asad is Asad. He will probably perform when the match is lost or if Pakistan are in a very strong position. Otherwise, he might be able to chip in with a 40 or so. Of all specialist batsmen who have played 70+ Tests, his top score of 137 is the second lowest after Ranatunga. So you know he won't be hitting many big ones.

Rizwan is the standout so far (until the latest innings). His scores in the warm-up matches are 47*, 54*, 100*, and 18.

Fawad hasn't impressed. Iftikhar has hit a fifty. Shadab and Faheem... well.

Waiting for them are Anderson, Broad, Archer, Woakes, Curran, Stokes, Bess, Leach, etc.

Pakistan need to play 6 batman pluss the keeper and 4 bowlers they are to week in batting to play 5 Bateman pluss the keeper

Scary thought given today's effort so far.

Anderson and co. must be licking their lips.

No YK, Misbah, Inzi, Yousuf etc to hold things together.

Lets hope the team have got the collapse out of the system today. Our top 3 wont find it any easier during test series and need to buck up their ideas.

Hmmmm....... badly!

Our batting will get out classed by this bowling attack. Expect 5/41.

300 would be a big achievement
200 a wish
150 reality

Saj Saj Saj why are you being so pessimistic ...... you should not be in the doom and gloom brigade;;;?

250-300 in early may/june wouldnt be to bad, but we are going to need to get big runs some how, plus whether we have bowling ti bail us out this time like last 2 series is debatable.

Trying to be positive but realistic at the same time.

Our batting looks woeful.

No hiding place for some of these guys who have been hiding behind others.

I think our batting would do well come the tests.

We must remember that our batsmen have been playing quality Pakistani bowlers in the nets and in practice games since they have arrived in England, not the usual 2nd string county bowlers.

This is brilliant practice to be honest. I am expecting big things, and I don't say this often!

You think Shan, Abid, and Azhar will negotiate Anderson and Broad better than Sohail Khan and Faheem Ashraf? I hope so...

These are practice games and Sohail or Faheem are no where the skill level of Anderson/Broad. My point is that this is super practice for our boys. I am sure they would be ready come 1st test.

What's what we gotta hope that these practise matches will help Pakistan team

If we get the sort of pitches that Wi have got then we are going to do well. The pitch we got in the practice match was significantly more difficult than the ones at the Eng vs Wi series.

England should go with four pacers, that will make life hard for Pakistan batters.

Its our batting where the series will be won or lost

I can expect our bowlers to take wickets but our batters.....

Pak batting lineup is definitely not great and highly dependent upon Babar but I have to say its much better than WI batting based upon any metric we want to apply.

Obviously will be tough for Pak batters but I expect them to put on a better show than WI batting which has just made 1 score of 300+ in 5 innings while allowing Eng to go above 300+ in 3 out of 4 completed innings.

This has been the issue ever since Misbah/Younis retired. Azhar Ali has been awful since. Shafiq is just average. Only Babar is on the rise and the openers as always are inconsistent and an issue.

Only thing that could help them is if Broad and Anderson start showing their age and are a little tired by the time they start facing Pakistan.

England are starting to look better as a unit. Remember they will be coming into the series after 3 competitive games. Pakistan may have played practice games but we haven't played competitive cricket for months.

Things could get ugly.

What makes things better for England is that they aren't just relying on 3 or 4 pace bowlers like Pakistan are and can rotate their bowlers without too many problems.

They have 6 or 7 well-rested bowlers who will all be eager to take on Pakistan.

I fear the worst.

even if they loose 5 in no time they can still scrore around 325

It depends up on how much heart the batsmen show , I think Pakistan is capable of getting 350 .

Sohail Khan was taken as a kind of Anderson practice bowler, so this team is not raw.

In reality, Babar, Rizwan, Shafiq and Shadab are batting to the standard we’d expect.

That leaves Azhar, who is a lost cause, plus Shan and Abid who need to improve.

It’s pretty much what you’d expect.

What's the reality?
The starting batting line up was dismissed for 113 against a Sohail Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Imran Khan, Usman Shinwari and Kashif Bhatti. Now they're going to face Broad, Anderson, Archer, Woakes.

200 isn't pessimistic, it's realistic.

This kinda stuff happens all the time in warm up games. You can't take it seriously. It's just for practice.

Younis revels reason of batting failure during final practice game

Pakistan cricket team’s batting coach Younis Khan has praised bowlers for exploiting the weakness of batting lineup during the final four-day intra-squad game which ended up in a draw.

Talking to media via video link, the former Pakistan captain said, “The batsmen received the opportunity to play the swinging ball. County bowlers are always different. Bowlers know their team’s weakness and I think that is why a lot of wickets fell during the training matches.”

“I think that level of seriousness was not there either,” Khan added.

He said that he has worked with everyone in the side during his first tour as an official and praised Babar Azam for his skillset.

“I have tried to work with everyone in the side including Babar Azam. These players are our future. I have no doubts about the skills of Babar. I want him to keep performing better and better. He should strive for a 150 when he makes a 100 and then go on to even 200,” he added.

The 42-year-old also stressed on the importance of tailenders contributing with the bat, while laying special emphasis on Mohammad Abbas.

“We are trying to make Mohammad Abbas the leader of the tailenders. You need to fight till the last wicket in a Test match,” he concluded.

I said it here, and no one believed me.

Pak are 40 for 2. Our openers not good enough. Best they can do is block out 10-15 overs. Playing in practice matches is a big difference to playing in test cricket no matter the quality of bowling.

Not done badly but still some way to go.
