Srinagar, Aug 13: Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Sunday said that the massive participation in the Tiranga rally in Srinagar is a big reply to those who once claimed none would pick up the Tri-colour if Article 370 was revoked.

“Tiranga in every hand today and the great enthusiasm in the rally is what every Kashmiri yearned for. Huge participation in the rally today is a big reply to those who once claimed that none in the Valley would pick up the Tri-colour (if Article 370 was rolled back),” LG said while leading the Tiranga rally from Botanical Garden here, as reported by news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). He was accompanied by Chief Secretary AK Mehta.

Talking to reporters, the LG said that it is a proud moment to see not just officials from the administration and the police officers but a large number of Srinagarites. Asked how he sees the change, he said that people have understood their responsibility to be part of the chance and show respect to the Tiranga.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh said that massive participation of locals in the Tiranga yatra is a welcome development. Replying to a query about the situation in Kashmir, he said that the overall situation is very peaceful on all fronts. “But efforts are still on from across to misguide the youth through social media. The number of terrorists is miniscule,” he said, adding that this year successful operations were conducted on the LoC in which a large number of infiltrators were killed. “Majority of infiltration bids were foiled this year,” he said.

A video showed Rayees, the brother of Hizbul terrorist Javid Mattoo, waving the Tricolour from the window of his home was widely shared on social media.

Javid Mattoo is an active terrorist associated with the Hizbul Mujahideen terror group. He was reportedly among the top 10 targets in the valley on the list of security agencies.

“I waved the Tiranga from my heart. There was no pressure from anyone...Saare jahaan se achha Hindustan humara, hum bulbule hain iske ye gulistan hamara,” he told news agency ANI.

"There is development. For the first time, I am sitting at my shop on August 14, it used to be shut for two-three days. The previous political parties were playing games...My brother became one (a terrorist) in 2009, we don't know anything about him after that...If he is alive, I urge him to come back...The situation has changed, Pakistan can't do anything...Hum Hindustani the, hain aur rahenge," Rayees added a day before the 77th Independence Day celebrations.

LOL what a joke. We all know they have a gun to their head

Its about time Kashmiris join the mainstream and accept the reality. They wasted too many decades fighting a meaningless battle with Indian armed forces. The incidents of terrorist activities also seem to have decreased a lot in the past 2 years.

Absolutely! Time for them to progress and improve their life with the rest of India.

Kashmir banega Hindustan

This is truly heart warming. Abrogation of article 370 was a game changing move by GOI. It has now finally connected Kashmir to the ROI in the most realest way.

If Kashmiris want to stay with India, then why don't India take the voting of Kashmiris as per the UN resolution, whether they want to stay with India or not?

In a decade or so there will be no Kashmir separatist mentality.

Its over for Pakistan.

Only hope now is our Raul Puppu, Ammayi Sonya and the Congress Party of India coming to give Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists hope and new lease for the separatist movement, but they seem unlikely to win any near elections.

I've always believed that suppressing Kashmiris is not the long term solution. We need to spend money and resources to improve their lives, which we have been doing lately. We need to keep them content and happy.

Are there any stats out yet? Looking at the fireworks on this thread got me curious to know India's approval rating in Kashmir. Non-government data would be appreciated given that it would certainly be biased.
