"I’ve lost a lot of time, but I feel my best days are to come" : Usama Mir

Me too. I don't think we need Nawaz. Usama and Shadab could be pretty lethal together in India.

Imam
Fakhar
Babar
Rizwan
Salman Agha
Chacha
Shadab
Usama Mir
Shaheen
Naseem
Rauf

Is my first choice XI.

Yep thats the XI I would go with too :) The only change I would make is to send Ifti at no.4 and Riz at 5.

Ifti is a guy who can score hundreds. We just need to believe in him and back him.

Usama's improvement is such a left field thing. He was bang average/below average for 4-5 years and it's like his hard work suddenly started blossoming and now he's a bankable spin option in LOIs. Abrar has had similar trajectory as well. Did they get exposure to better coaches and facilities in last 12-18 months?

Putting in the hard years, experience, loads of overs under your belt helps you to mature as a bowler. The only way spin bowlers improve their craft is by bowling a lot of overs ie minimum of 25-30 overs per innings in first class cricket. Shadab has failed to develop his bowling and regressed because of avoiding four day first class cricket.

If they have any brains and don’t get caught up in friendships, they should start with both Shadab and Usama in the playing 11.
.

He’s been the best spinner in the country over the past year. About time he get consistent opportunities

My point was he was below average for 5-6 years and then suddenly he made the jump and his performance improved a lot in last 12-18 months.

So the guy is finding his feet in international cricket and we have some journos going out of their way to make him say something controversial

But to Usama's credit - he played it with a dead bat.

Journo 1:

You are in competition with Shadab Khan - how do you feel about it?

Usama said that our mindset is a champions mindset that anyone should be ready to perform when they get a chance for Pakistan and there is no competition

Journo 2

How can you get rythm if you are dropped again etc?

Usama said SK is our match winner and its good that he is coming in his rythm - both of us will be ready for the World Cup if given a chance.

I like this guy

Can be our crucial/big wicket taker in the middle overs

I'm sold too

His issue will be Shadab's batting thingy - may push him out of the team on that basis

I actually believe he can play with Shadab, in place of Nawaz, who Babar doesn’t bowl if there are two lefties on the crease.

They can try being smart and get Imad in for Shadab. You don’t need a Vettori level spinner in India. Remember, they won a World Cup with Yuvraj Singh bowling a full quota of overs last time

One proper spinner and a part timer is enough

Imam can learn a thing or two from Usama when it comes to answering the media

If Pak participated in the WC, he has to be tried in the team. We will need 2 spinners in the team. It won’t be easy to accommodate two right arm leggies in Shadab and Usama. Usama is much taller than Shadab and can get more purchase out of the Ind wickets. Best of luck to him and Shadab in the future. On a side note, I hope he uses his brain in the future when requesting for a review.

He proberly won't make the world cup xi but will definitely be in the squad.

At the point he needs more energy in the flick of the wrist. It will give him more spin and dip.

Curious to know what you think about who the spinners should be in the WC in India.
Is it both Usama and Shadab, or another combination

It's difficult- Shadab has experience but isn't bowling well, Usama is bowling well but lacks experience. At this stage I would take Shadab but he has get his confidence back quickly.

I am getting Razzaq vibes in the way in which Usama is batting today.

This chap can hit!!!

Usama Mir claims the prized scalp of Jordan Cox and Azam Khan. His figures so far in the match against IU in PSL 9 is 2/16 in 2.4 overs.

Another good day for Usama Mir in PSL 9. He ends up with a figure of 1/25 against Lahore Qalandars. He claimed the prize scalp of Van Der Dussen.

Alex Hearly (assistant spin coach of Multan Sultans) explaining the reasons why Usama Mir was bowling a lot of full tosses earlier and the adjustments she (and her team) have made to his action.

"He wasn't driving through and finishing his action...and he has bowled so nicely throughout this competition."
