Mohammad Abbas at a presser after Day 1 of the Adelaide Test:

"Ups and downs happen, the start was very good for me. After that, I got injured vs NZ and it took a while for me to recover. I am bowling and getting practice, insha'Allah I will get my rhythm back soon"

"It was a tough day, in your own conditions you know which areas to bowl in. Coming here, we practiced a lot but I didn't get assistance from the pitch. I gave it my all and did hard work, but they were confident and played me well as well"

"I bowled some maidens, we tried to bowl in partnerships but we couldn't manage to do what we wanted. In the last match also they were high on confidence as they made runs"

"If we were bowling maidens from one end, the other end wasn't doing the same. They played well. We will try to do well in the morning"

"I am not happy with my own performance because I am thought of as a main bowler. When you play Test cricket after 10 months, there is a bit of difference and it takes some time to get rhythm back"

"It was the first day, the match isn't over yet. We will try to do well in the morning tomorrow"

"As professionals, we have to find a way on any pitch. As batsmen have partnerships, bowlers do the same and we tried to do that but it couldn't happen"

"It's a new management, they played the combination that they thought was best for the first Test, it didn't make much difference for me. I kept up my hard work and will keep doing that"

"Having the wicket-keeper stand up to the stumps is also part of the plan. If the batsman is struggling on my bowling, he stands out of his crease a little, so we planned this, like we also did in UAE. But the pitch didn't give much assistance"

You should be worried. Your career will be over if you don't improve.

He shouldn't be sorry - he did well and kept it tight; took a fair share of work load as well. It's Yasir and Musa that completely ruined his (& Shaheen's) efforts. In Test cricket, you don't expect batsmen to swing bat when runs are coming at a healthy rate.

Time to call those who made him a hero and McGrath v2 for being benched in the 1st Test.

Sad to see he is fading away so quickly .The drastic drop in pace is alarming .Bowling at 120 kph that too in first spell was embarrassing to watch

You don't drop your best bowler unless he is injured. One or 2 bad games doesn't mean anything
It's a professor game, you can't just be trying random kids every game. Its the same with haris, one bad game and he is out. What about your azhars and ur shafiqs?? String after string of low scores

All bloody knee jerk reactions

This is the third test match Pakistan is playing this year. That’s too big a gap for test specialists

He actually bowled decently, I totally expected him to be very expensive. Focusing on line, length and accuracy can only take you this far, he is just way to slow even for a medium pacer to make any impact whatsoever. Sad to see someone like him spearheading Pak attack. What a tremendous fall!!

He did fine. He and Shaheen Afridi did well to build pressure, even took a wicket. The problem is we had a 19 yr old debutant to back them up and he (expectedly so, he has no experience) let that pressure deflate. Yasir didn't help things either but pink ball test and rain in the forecast should've taken him out of the line-up for another pacer.

Didnt bowl enough at the stumps, yes hes pace isnt great but he didnt ask enough of the batsmen on day 1.

He at least had a good economy, him and Shaheen. If there's someone to point fingers at, it's Yasir.

I don't know what Pak fans see in Abbas, he had a good year but I think people have figured him out.

I actually like what Misbah did in Gabba, those 3 pacers were better than these 3.

Also I think Musa is too short to succeed long term, hoping to hear expert views on that.. .

I don't blame him nor get the hate thrown his way.

The most you can ask for a bowler of Abbas's pace and stature in Australia on hard, flat pitches with the Kookaburra ball is to keep things tight, and that he did unlike Imran Khan.

The problem is that there was zero support from the 3rd and 4th bowlers Musa and Yasir.

Abbas still has value in England, New Zealand, West Indies with the Dukes ball, and the UAE on low bounce surfaces.

I believe the maximum amount of swing is achieved between 127kph and 135kph. The fact Abbas can't even reach that is very worrying from a Pakistani point of view. I mean the fact he was getting zero support from Musa, Yasir & Ifti doesn't help either.
