Najam Sethi: “This will be an auspicious moment for Pakistan cricket and I am positive that it will serve to open the doors of international cricket in Pakistan”

The PCB chairman, while announcing the squad at a press conference in Lahore today, said that his "next challenge" was to hold an international cricket match in Karachi.

"Right now, foreign players and security experts are not ready [for a match in Karachi]," he told reporters.

"But I have asked my security expert to tour Karachi and draw a security plan so that we can brief ICC's security team to convince them."

He also said that international players starring in the next Pakistan Super League (PSL) would be bound by contract to play any matches that will be held in Pakistan.

Last year, many international players had refused to play the PSL final in Pakistan.

Some more quotes from the press conference

"The security team will visit Pakistan in the 1st week of September and will consist of 3 people who will come and examine the arrangements"

"Shahid Afridi has himself stated that he did not want a farewell game"

Why no Afghanistan players in the World XI?

"We had said that we would pick top players from the world so if you have seen the list, you will agree that we do have the top players"

"And as you know, the main purpose is to bring 'them' to Pakistan; we can always get players close to home"

When will Pakistan team be announced?

"Good question, I don't have an answer yet!"

"Giles Clarke will be coming over to see these games; we havent sent invitations yet to other boards as we wanted to confirm this stage first"

"Honestly speaking, this was a very tough project; Everyone wanted this to happen but to it was a difficult task to convince international players"

"Getting FICA's approval for this was the most difficult aspect of this project"

"Now that we have the World XI names, we will have to sell the broadcast rights in the next 15 days"

Credit goes to Mr. Shahryar Khan for all of this. Sad that the poor guy just retired a couple of days before all of this!

The guy was adamant about the success of Pakistan and is easily the best Chairman we have had in all of history. Was never accused of corruption, tried his best to ensure the success of Pakistan under any circumstances and got cricket back home. Legend.

One journalist asked if Donald Trump's statement on Pakistan would hurt the World XI tour.... :D
