What's new

"I am waiting to face Steyn again and this time I will clear this whole scenario" : Mohammad Hafeez

If Dale Steyn is a true man he must face Hafeez at his best otherwise Hafeez will be declared the ultimate winner in this rivalry because he did come back on a revenge mission while Steyn chickened out.

What do you have to say for Hafeez because he retired from tests just in time before the SA test series ?

Malcom Marshall of this era turned out to be a wimp 😂 chickened out from the first two ODIs after seeing Hafeez' recent white ball stats.

Don’t think they’ll face each other much. Hafeez bats at 4 and Steyn will open the bowling and bowl at the death.

Hafeez is destroying steyn today.. I think he will end steyn career by the time this ODI series over

He's clearly rattled by the charge of being Steyn's bunny, playing like he's trying to prove a point instead treating each ball on it's merit.

Looks like a rabbit caught in headlights every time he faces steyn.

Honestly didn't think Steyn would be that great today, he's been struggling with injuries last few years and wasn't the best SA bowler in tests. Plus he tends to bowl within himself in bilaterals (often missing them too) to conserve himself for tests. But he bowled well today so far, Hafeez lucky to have survived his spell.

Hafeez won this battle, put his team in a good position.

Except that dropped catch Hafeez was excellent.

That's the MoHa we need in the middle order in case our openers tuk tuk to a reasonable score.

He could barely play Steyn at all and was even dropped off his bowling.
Cashed on the others though with a good knock but couldnt win us the match.

Looked as clueless like Pak always does against India in WCs. Some things never change I guess. I am more disappointed about the latter. :/

He has been a flop as a batsman so far despite scoring 98 runs

Hafeez is a smart customer. He knows his main aim is to be on a vacation in Australia. So the tactics are:

1. Bowl as less as possible.
2. Get injured for at least 25% of the tournament.
3. Score cheap first-innings runs in one or two matches.

Malik will do the same.

Best business model to secure good retirement package.

He's in anyway. PSL hasn't and isn't going to throw up any other batsman so we're stuck with Hafeez and Malik in the middle order whether we like it or not.

Almost got him again.

Malik is a valuable contributor. He gets a place on merit.

what's the story behind haffez vs steyn?

Steyn dismissed Hafeez about a dozen times in 2013 when Pakistan and South Africa couldn’t stop playing each other that year.

He actually smoked Steyn once in the UAE in 2010, but it has all been downhill since.

lol hafeez. He always had issues vs pace. Even munaf Patel troubled him lol.
razzaq vs mcgrath was awesome. razzaq got the better of him in odi dint hey?

Good times. There were two ODIs with 1 run victories, iirc.

It’s clearly the sign of a great player and someone mentally tough to go through that torture as a batsman against Steyn so many years ago and still be here in 2020 widely regarded as a batting legend of your country , ready to face Steyn again in the PSL and possibly at World T20 if Steyn makes it into SA team.

As for Hafeez , we all know his place in the Pakistan team for World T20 even if he’s out of form is more secure then arguably peak-form Sir Garry Sober’s place was in the West Indies team of that era.

To top it off it got to a point where Steyn once dismissed Hafeez and couldn’t bring himself
To celebrate and instead burst out laughing.

He apologized later though.

No you are another biased Guy who thinks I do not know what I say.

Your view which apparently only you know does not trump real-world empirical data based on actual performances. Whether you want to admit it or not.

You have to go through some threads on pp and it is not only me.

Don't need to. And fortunately, Misbah too is looking at Malik's performances in T20Is and PSL rather than the comments of random posters on PP.

Malik’s T20I record might be good but we all know he will not deliver in the WT20 in Australia, and I say this as a closet Malik supporter.

The stats brigade - NEVER take them seriously.

Because, they have no clue how to actually judge a batsman and their ability.

Anyone with some clue knows Malik struggles big time against 130+kph pace at the right length. It's super easy to stop his scoring.

All he does is nudge fast bowlers towards the third man. That's his go-to and release shot.

It's not only limited to AUS and ENG. The issues do become bigger there for a 3rd class batter like Malik though.

Taking him there will be a disaster, just like WC 2019, and sadly, he will be taken there. There's no stopping him.
RedwoodOriginal - you need to start watching cricket, and how Malik bats, scores, than rely blindly on stats.

This reminds me of Kohli saying to NZ - ‘India ao to dikhadooon ga’. Lol

Dale Steyn has not been the same lethal legend for the past 3 years since his shoulder injury. Too easy for any batsman to get the best of him.

I watch enough cricket to know how Malik bats. And I have been seen him bat for the last 4 years to know where his batting is at. Also, empirical evidence supports my position. So please keep the patronizing comments to yourself. If you don't like him, just say so rather than insulting other people's intelligence.

And unlike you and a few other posters, people do take stats seriously. No everyone relies on whims. At present Babar, Malik and Iftikhar are the only 3 batsmen that walk into the WC squad.
