Kamran Akmal speaking to media:

"If I can get into the team then my target will be do put in good performances for Pakistan"

"No matter what my role is, whether as a batsman only, I will do my best as I have been practising in the camp"

"I can play for four or five more years, it all depends on one's fitness"

"I have no problem in fielding as you would have seen from my fielding practice in the camp along with the other players"

"I have performed really well for my department and in PSL as well and I can only have a place in the national squad as a batsman as Sarfraz will continue as keeper"

"I have a great relationship with Sarfraz and there is no feeling of jealousy between us"

"To be honest for the last few years, I had been paying a lot of attention to my batting and less on 'keeping"

"Even in this camp, I have only put on gloves on one occasion during the past few days as I have really been concentrating on my batting"

"There is no extra pressure on me when fielding as no one is a natural fielder; it just boils down to how hard you work"

"There is no issue and you can ask about my fitness from the trainers"

"As cricketers we never give up on our fitness even whilst playing at the club level"

I hope he gets dropped sooner than that can't believe Inzi is letting all of these TTFs to return

An average of 26 in an ODI career spanning 150 odd matches and an average of 20 over a T20 career of about 50 matches and we expect him to become like Bradman all of a sudden at the ripe old age of 35.

This is a huge leap backwards by Inzi

If he thinks he can survive for 4 or 5 years with half fitness, then soon will be gone as usual. He needs to work very hard on his fitness.

I don't want Three More Chances playing for five more minutes forget five years. We're making a mistake by being fooled by his domestic form again.

He went on a good run in 2012 and 2014, begged for "three more chances" and predictably failed when making his international comeback.

He has performed in the PSL got the MoT award. He is going to be selected definitely in t20s. Maybe In ODIs too. Let's see how it goes.

PSL performance should be taken with a truckload of salt. Last year Umar Akmal was the most prolific batsman in the PSL and just a month after that he couldn't buy a run in the WT20.

I hope K.Akmal flops like no tomorrow.

Give him his chance, but I think with all of the noise Arthur is making about fitness now, he will not get into the squad. All Arthur has to say is "Well, I said our players need to be in shape and he was not." That's all.

I saw him during the PSL where he batted well, but if that's an indication of his fitness, he would struggle to play for four or five months never mind years. He looked overweight and soft as giant jelly bean. Very disappointing how casual these so called professionals are when it comes to conditioning.

kami don at his best. Why just 5 years? Why not 10? This is an employment scheme by PCB. It has nothing to do with age , fitness or performance. So He should avail it for maximum possible years.

At the time when a new and younger opener is need who can be taken to wc 19, this guy who averages 26 is talking about making a comeback. Even if he does much better than what his career stats suggest, he will average 35 in ODIs which is still mediocre when other teams have openers averaging well over 40 at better strike rates.

with Sharjeel most likely gone, shazaib possibly gone and the very real prospect of Selfie and Azhar sticking around, I am gonna give into to stupid blind naive hope. Lets just hope Kamran can give us a quick start.

Either way a 4 t20 series is bit of blessing because it will be more than enough of a chance for him, suceed or get lost frankly.

Only 4 to 5 years?. Why not make him a life long participant of pak team?.

I am thinking what it takes now to get rid of him.

On the sluggish WI wickets, he is doomed to fail. He shouldn't be picked regardless. Should Give a younger player like talat or fakhar a chance and Look at the bigger picture.

Small target, unimpressed by KAkmal - he is 35, so he should have targeted 8/9 years. Cricket fitness is not your reflex, eye sight, hand-eye coordination, flexibility. Rather, it's all about managing body weight & looking in shape; therefore instead of anything, he should focus on trimming his extra fat & look like fit at almost 43 to continue ....................

Told you guys, he's planning to do a Misbah... he plans to carry on and on

No thanks... Sarfaraz is our keeper, and long may his good form continue. Kamran has no spot in the team.

#Misbahmodel

I'll give him the first 3 T20s to prove himself and if he doesn't get to 50 in at least 1 innings I'd throw him out.

Why we believe no one can improve his skill with sheer hardwork, why some of us are so negative with Akmal making a strong case for himself with one of the best ever domestic season performance by any one in recent years.

He was never my favorite, but he is 35, not 43 and if he proves himself good for team , why not.

If Misbah at 43 with ZERO performance can be included, whats wrong with Kamran.

I think Fahkar will be picked as well. I have my doubts about him but he more than deserves his chance and as you said we should try new players instead of certifed failures.

The fact that Sharjeel managed to improve under this coaching team gives me hope that maybe Fahkar can as well. However I think its wrong to expect him to have similar impact.

Correct.

All the broken record of "TTF!!!!!!!!!!" you see above is nonsense.

And imagine what alternatives we have! Azhar, Shehzad, Rizwan, Hafeez, Malik. Where doe Kami stand? Obviously, MUCH better than these failures - who have been failing IN the team.

Kami has earned his spot after a good show, so he will be judged on his FUTURE performances in international cricket.

Not his past.

Bias and ignorance at its best in this thread. Why would you not pick your best batsman among a bunch of useless so-called batsmen that you have?

Kami isn't a world beater, but as compared to what we HAVE, he is the best. Let's judge him after 10-15 international matches. Don't let propaganda and hate on this thread blind you.

I totally ADMIRE Mickey Arthur and Inzi here. :babar

Lol I wonder when you are going to start supporting the Pakistan cricket team and not just individuals.

Lol I wonder when you are going to start supporting the Pakistan cricket team and not just individuals.

It's you who do that. Called out multiple times by multiple people.

Let go of personal agendas and hatred - think better for the team, which I'm happy both Mickey and Inzi are doing - selecting on merit.

Just because you hate our best performer atm, doesn't mean Pak team should not benefit from him.

You won't even last till next WC Kami.

We should be replacing old with young. Not old with old and arrive at the same damn problem 12 month later for God sake.

Ironic when you consider the fact that he reportedly failed the first fitness test, before finally passing the second time.

"I am genetically fat and cannot shed any more kilos" - Richard Levi

art-richard_levi-420x0.jpg

Richard Levi started his international career with a bang hitting the fasted hundred in internal T20
He played one year in the IPL and his stats were atrocious. He never played in the IPL again, Got dropped the Proteas team and than got dropped from his domestic team

Richard has tried all methods to shed kilos. He even went through a fast where he only had one meal in 48 hours. I have a feeling that Kamran may be in the same situation

Sarcasm?

Akmal dynasty was malnourished when they started playing for Pak team. So being genetically fat is out of question.

It is not a secret that I am happy to see him back, but I should also make it clear that he - along with Malik & Hafeez - needs to be phased out after the 2019 World Cup regardless of how well they perform. PCB needs to adopt a zero-tolerance policy for its seniors. 36-37 (official age) should be the cut-off age, and exception should not be made for anyone. This is exactly what other boards do.

Flat track bullies like Misbah and Younis have set an extremely wrong precedence. Are they bigger and fitter players than Tendulkar, Ponting, Kallis, Dravid etc.? They aren't even half the players these legends were, and their fitness is overrated. Just because most of our players are unfit does not mean that these two legends are athletes. By international standards, their fitness is mediocre.

We need to make it clear to the players that 'as long as I am fit' and 'it only depends on fitness' etc. nonsense will not work anymore. Younis and Misbah will remain 'fit' by Pakistani standards for another 10 years, and Imran Khan will beat Umar and Sohail on a fitness test today at the age of 64. Shoaib Malik has been one of the fittest cricketers Pakistan has ever produced and he will remain fit for Pakistan standards for another 15 years.

In addition, all this 'they are not replaceable at the moment' etc. is crap as well. Yes we don't have world class batsmen lining up but replacing two average over-the-hill batsmen should not be a big deal even for a country with mediocre talent like Pakistan.

Same nonsense was fed about about Misbah in 2015 but he has been successfully replaced by the likes of Malik and Sarfraz, who have adopted the same role in the team and are batting better than him. Younis also clowned around in ODIs till 2015 World Cup and remained one of our weakest batsman, and although he still scores big in Tests after every 10 innings, he is still very much replaceable. Pakistan lost 8 Tests last year and he played in all of them, while his contribution to victory was limited to 1-2 Tests only.

Similarly, Misbah has never been good enough outside the UAE, and Pakistan does not need Misbah's batting there. I do suspect that our unbeaten run in the UAE is going to end soon because we have been quite shaky in the last year, but that will happen even if these two legends continue to play. To cut a long story short, if Misbah and Younis continue to play, our results will not be any better.

Misbah should have forced into retirement after the Australian humiliation, but the PCB did not have the cojones. However, the message to him has been made clear now and he has no option but to retire after the Caribbean tour. Similarly, Younis should be booted out after he completes his 10,000 runs, even though in his find, he is fit enough to play for Pakistan for another 15 years.

Good, heavy hitter.

Could definitely temporarily replace Sharjeel.

Makes use of the powerplay well.

Not so sure about the fitness. He was cramping badly today during the middle overs after playing for two consecutive days. He even didn't keep yesterday because he was too tired after the knock.

First WK batsmen in history to score 4 T20 centuries, passing Gilchrist and De Kock

Kahin ye select na ho jaye ab :sanga:

We need to accept that he is good enough only for these leagues. Trying the same thing over and over again and expecting it to yield different results is stupidity.

He really is knocking on the selectors doors for a T20 spot. The problem with him though is that he is a liability in the field.

Kamran Akmal and Fakhar Zaman to open! Hope to see him in the T20s against Windies in 2 weeks.

Mickey 'll never let this happen. I am sure he is a fitness freak and Kami 'll not impress him with this 100. Mickey has already told his

plans about Hafeez and praised Hussain Talat. There is only room for couple of players and Kami is not one of those. If 2019 is the main

target then Kami is not in those plans. I hope someone asks Mickey about Kami and he 'll tell the same hopefully.

Kamran Akmal is clearly a big match player and would have destroyed every opponent in the CT, making the CT victory not a fluke.

Knowing sub continent culture a player will never retire until you force them even the age of 50.

Credit where it´s due, that was a breathtaking innings yesterday. He literally pounded the Lahore bowling. Well done! However, please, please don´t bring him back into the team as we´ve seen this many times before that he´ll only make the team suffer. So, no.

Once in a blue moon doesn't help the team. Just look at Afridi in the last few years of his career. He was more of a bust than Boom Boom with the bat. In fact Afridi was more successful as a bowler.

UA lacks both the fitness and the attitude to be a team player. Regardless of what he says or thinks about himself in his own mind, its for the coach to determine if he is a fit in the team. Yes, he had a good match y'day but don't expect him to be consistent.

tough to ignore him - as much as we may not want to

Guy would flop again if he was brought back to national colours.

Hopefully he isn't called back. Are the selectors stupid enough to carry on the cycle?
Goes like this

1) Kamran Akmal does well in domestic season
2) Kamran Akmal makes media statements saying he deserves to be in the Pakistan team
3) Kamran Akmal has a good PSL
4) Selectors give into the pressure and select him for the National Team
5) Kamran Akmal, once again, flops for Pakistan.

Will still be happening in a decades time!

Best Pakistani opener since Anwar more or less if you think about it. Some people should be ashamed of putting down such a hardworking and honest player. Wish him well.

I'm sick of this guy. He's finished at international level but he can't help himself and try to bring back dbs mediocre energy back into the national side
