Saim Ayub’s mindset is so refreshing, man. No drama, no chasing records — just playing for the team and staying fearless. Love how he’s focused on improving every day. That’s the kind of attitude Pakistan needs!

-----------------

Saim Ayub speaking at the post-match presentation after Pakistan's victory against UAE in tri-series game:

"The team always needs contributions from different players, and that’s a good sign. I don’t care much about individual records — they’re overrated. For me, if the team wins, that’s enough. You just have to wait for the bad balls and play according to the pitch. I’m working on that with the coach, trying to improve every day. It’s difficult at times, but if you stay fearless, the game becomes easier."

Good attitude but then he can say it because he's doing well

That's the key

Get in those performances first, philosophies later

This is the problem with the majority of supporters in Pakistan

They don’t yet understand what Saim is saying. They want milestones for some weird reason in T20s lol

It wouldn't surprise me if Saim himself thought of RizBar as a bunch of frauds. Surely he must be aware that they are stat padders?

RizBar fans hate his guts. They think he is Camilla in the Diana+Charles wedding. He broke caused the two love birds to break up.

What I found interesting from “I would never replace Saim with Imam” is that he claims that Babar is the Pakistani GOAT of ODIs. This is why I now call him Credible Caved.

Saim Ayub scored 17 off 19 in ongoing AFG vs PAK tri series final

Most ducks in history of Pakistan in just one year of career . This record is what you should care about .

This is insane mediocrity. There is no way anyone else would have been given the same chances, another duck today to add to this list that is 5 ducks in the last 11 matches

How are intentful ducks helping the team? Especially for a team like Pakistan, you would want a stable 35 than a 4 ball 12! Anything over a duck is better, actually.

I am really surprised to find that Saim has never scored a 100 in T20s including domestic cricket.

I am now convinced he should not open again in the ongoing WT20 tournament. I would rather try Usman Khan or Nafay to partner with Farhan.

Saim Ayub has gone from a batter to a batting all-rounder to a bowling all-rounder.

He is a good bowler. You can tell that just by looking at the way he bowls. He isn't afraid to take risks and toss the ball up, his lengths are fantastic, he is able to get good turn. But I really wish he would start playing more impactful knocks with the bat. He is a really talented batter and I want nothing more than to see him live up to his potential.

so why he has been given such a extended run? 65 T20Is..thats a whole career not chances. Im quite surprised that you Still want to persist with him as an opener. This is kind of treatment that shows Liking and Disliking in our cricketing culture bereft of Justice. We dropped Hassan Nawaz after few failures. Only 25 chances were enough to drop him why? Because he aint nobody's favorite

There are lot of youngsters waiting for few chances and This guy plays like PCT his club team

All his dismissals have been self inflicted.

His shot selections against India & the Dutch were terrible. He chased wide deliveries against USA & Namibia when he didn’t need to.

His opening partner has been patient but measured whereas Ayub has been chasing quick scores.

Given how things have turned out for him, in my opinion Saim should give himself a few balls ( he decides how many ) that he can middle and feel the ball on bat, the pace and bounce of the pitch, and the quality of the bowling before launching himself. With his naturally aggressive approach, he’ll make up for the initial balls in no time. Low scores don’t give anyone any confidence, he should think about it (or the coaching staff should have a conversation with him around this approach).

he is also getting benefited due to teams not really planning or scrutinizing him much. Give him some time. He is a decent bowler but no way a very good bowler.

Saim Ayub needs to be careful about not becoming Irfan Pathan. In 2006 Irfan Pathan had become a better batter than a bowler and in the series against SA after the first tour game where he scored a 100* and 40* but bowled badly, he was sent back to India to improve his bowling in middle of the tour. If a player is doing better in his secondary skill than his primary, it is a warning sign.

Can't compare with Irfan. Irfan was an all format player. Ayub is serviceable only in T20 like Maxwell.

Seems like Ayub is more of a ODI player than T20 player. His record in ODIs and List A is way better than the other formats.

Bowlingwise
As a batter he is not suited for T20Is. Position 1 or 2 in the batting order is too high a number for him. Looks like a tail ender in this format as he tries to do too much. It is funny that Axar Patel averages 18 in T20Is but he is more reliable batter than Ayub. An average of 21 at a SR of 136 is not an opener material. He should bat at number 5 or 6 where he will not provide any advantage to Pakistan. A team which boasts of their bowling resources playing Saim just for his bowling is confusing.

I think he has the talent but guy is totally brainless, you'd think he'd have learned by now. Undoes the good start by Farhan.

Sabb say pehlay iski chutti karao, awain hi pagal banaya hua hai sabb kou iss nay.

That's probably why he's making mostly single-digit scores these days...

He has hogged an opening slot and produced nothing I don’t blame him he should have been dropped or pushed down the order ages ago.

You can not afford to carry a non performing opener. It is detrimental. People are criticised Farhan but he has been putting out performances despite getting no support the other end.

You don’t just shoehorn a player in with no performances.

So fustrating. If he wasn’t the next big talent he wouldn’t be getting this sort of treatment. It’s like we tell the rest to perform whatever position you play, shuffled down and dropped. Yet Saim gets the easiest position and never dropped, full backing.

It has probably cost us this tournament and farhan’s knock in vain. Even Asia cup we realised we had to drop Saim down the order.

Let Usman or fakhar open. Don’t need to bring back Babar or Rizwan. But we also don’t just carry a non performing player instead that doesn’t make us stronger.

Totally agree. Saim has been batting like a tailender for a while now and it adds to the pressure on Farhan. His bowling adds value but its not enough to have him hog the opening slot. Our batting order is appalling to say the least and all credit goes to Farhan for single handedly getting us here. You have a woefully out of form opener followed by an accumulator who thinks and acts like he is a power hitter and another who doesn't ever want to hit at all while we have a genuine opener sitting at 5 coming in around the 10-12 over mark. It is crazy. If you play Fakhar either make him open or send him in at 3 if an early wicket falls in the PP. Agha himself should drop down to 5 or 6 and play the role of the finisher.

Agha can’t play anything but 3. We’ve tried accommodating him everywhere. That is why others were moved around for him. He probably can’t even play 3 but the game he plays in almost positive that is his best position.

Babar can’t play anything but opening or 3. And is out form he won’t be able to do well anywhere.

Agha shouldn’t have been given captaincy before he earnt his spot in the t20 team on merit. Foolish decision. He’d have been dropped a long time ago if he wasn’t captain.

Babar shouldn’t have been recalled he’s still out of form and hasn’t done enough to get a recall. And he’s out of form and then on top we expect him to adapt his game to play middle order? Makes little sense.

I blame selectors and management more than anything. They’re the ones picking them and playing them in these positions.

I feel sorry for Farhan. Arguably the only batsman in that line up that has actually won his position on merit.

More than 50 t20i. people call rizwan a fraud but he still won us matches at opening. We are starting with 1 down at the start of inning with saim opening.

Come on Agha g open the inning now

But Rizwan has also regressed in t20 unfortunately now

If winning bilaterals was a thing, you can bring Riz and Babar back to open.

But they have flopped opening in almost every tournament.

Everytime he lifts his leg you know he is going to get out lol What ungainly look when he plays that shot. Unless there is pace on the ball that shot won't work most of the time.

He plays like a kid with talent. Which kind of makes sense because he debuted at 20.

Usually you only pick guys that young if they are an unreal talent and far more mature in their cricket than their years.

Saim probably would have benefitted those extra years in domestic cricket working out his game. Instead he’s been trying to cling onto his international spot. Now he’s doing it by relying on bowling more. So he hasn’t matured as cricketer, he’s the same 20 year old.

Batsmen are debuted later and later. It’s a tough world out there for cricket where you have to be ready for the pressure and the video cameras all analysing every flaw you have.

We just got impatient bringing him in thinking he’d somehow save Pak cricket on his own. Instead we are carrying him hoping one day he’ll click.

Not a fan of their partnership but TBH in the last decade or two the only matches where our openers actually had long opening stands in ICC tournaments were between them.

Nobody else had success. They got but not on a consistent basis.

1000% attitude . Zero performance . Shows that how Pakistan hype players as world beaters . He doesn’t even know can’t hit cross bat to ball going away and this is your Saeed Anwar

This guy has played like 70 T20 and still can't bat

He should be sent back to domestic and work on his batting

My point was that if you must accommodate the likes of Agha, Babar and Saim then at least move them somewhere where they don't block the players playing well. You are asking Fakhar to adapt his game to 5, Usman to 6 then why not ask Babar or Salman to bat in positions they dont prefer? Dont see what we stand to lose by doing so. Hopefully, like always,we will get a cleanup after the WC.

Reminds me of legendary Umar Amin.

A sleeper threat with the ball with the ability to remind that he can bat.

May I suggest him as captain?

That interview where Agha said that Saim is lazy and sleeps all day has come to bite the PCB.

Talent = Talunt = Tulla.

That's this dude's transformation so far.

Saim and fakhar are two players that you ll think will for sure play good in t20i as openers. But both are better odi players.

Deep down every batsman cares about individual records. They may not admit it, but getting the big scores and their name on the board is a big motivator for most good batsmen.

Now these records can sometimes come at expense of team goals :sachin :bobs or you can have the attitude that I want the team to win, but they are winning because of my runs and I will score the daddy hundreds to get them over the line :ab :vk .

But anyone batsman who genuinely doesn't care about records is probably a bit :inti .

Saim needs to be serious.
