"I don't say put me at this number, that number. I'll do whatever is best for the team" : Babar Azam

Babar Azam at a press conference after making 104 against Australia:

"You can say this was my best Test innings. It's difficult to score runs in Australia because they play well in their home conditions, they bowl well. So to perform against them gives you extraordinary confidence. I have gained confidence from my hundred today"

"I was saddened to get out then because my mindset was to score as many runs as possible there as the team needed that. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I gave my 100%"

"I will look to apply the confidence I have gained in the next Test, and play in a similar manner to how I did here"

"There wasn't pressure in the first innings, the shot I played is my shot but I played it early on, which I shouldn't have done. I regretted that. In the 2nd innings, I had practised a lot on leaving the ball and I applied that. There wasn't any major pressure in the 1st innings, but early on I played a shot that I couldn't have"

"I don't think about comparisons, I say in every interview there is no comparison with him (Kohli) because he has played a lot of matches and has a lot of experience. When I play more matches and I gain experience, then I think you can maybe compare but early on, I don't think there is a comparison. I don't think about these things as it brings extra pressure, to compare with such a big player. I stay in my own zone and focus on my own cricket"

"When I started playing Test cricket, I didn't have a set number, I was up and down the order because Younis bhai and Misbah bhai were there, sometimes I was at 5/6 then when we came to Aus, I was at 3, then later I went to 4. It's not that I wasn't given a specific number, it's that I always go according to the team requirement and the team plan. I don't say put me at this number or that number. I'll do whatever is best for the team. I will play at any position where the team requires me to, my job is to perform"

"I am concentrating a lot now. After reaching 50, I focus on trying to bat for as long as possible. I try to focus as I did for the first 50 for the next 50 runs also and beyond. You learn these things as you play Test cricket more and more automatically. I recycled in my mind that why am I flopping, so I gave my 200%"

Why doesn't he rate himself. He is satisfied with a 104 in a soft situation and calling it his best he should have higher expectations from himself he let himself down today 150 was there for the taking.

He did say that he intended on carrying on and making a big hundred.

He said it's his best hundred because his other hundred was in UAE, this one is in unfamiliar conditions against one of the best Test attacks right now.

Good comments. Its high time in my opinion for him to start batting at no 4.

That is what he should be doing. Not for him to decide what position he bats in.

He needs to assert himself for once & bat up the order. If others want the 3/4 spot, they should be made to earn it.

I'm still hurt by that first innings dismissal.
Hopefully he learns that this team is so ****, it can't afford him to make ANY silly mistakes at all!!
Cost us the game ( with the Abbas decision)
Needs to score big in the first innings next game
