"I feel that I should have represented Pakistan on more occasions than I did" : Wahab Riaz

He is bowling at the back end when pressure is on, Yesterday Islamabad required 25 on 12 balls and he bowl the very good over.

He is using his ability as per his strength in the last overs, He was never a new bowl bowler.

Which is why I mentioned yesterday was better . . on days prior, he has put inexperienced folks bowling at times when the attack is on . . He has never been a great new ball bowler but he is still miles better than the rest in his team . . should be bowling at critical times when pressure is on

Awful display from the captain in a must win game for his side. Rubbish bowler.

He is the biggest dramaybaaz currently in the team. Doing these all these theatrics of being emotional and all that only when camera is around.
He was ok and when camera started to focus him, he started doing these theatrics.
He was the biggest let down in the team except for that super over, should replaced with a better performing captian.
He was wicketless in first 5 matches this season and picked up few wickets in slog last matches.
His economy was also on higher side.
Next season, Zalmi should first replace him as a captain.

I could be wrong but I get the impression he is hiding himself . . he takes the ball at junctures where things are quieter and the pressure is comparatively off . . and then towards the end where he can get some wickets . . so I was glad to see him take the ball today after the first 2 overs went for plenty . .

I feel the same too, it is very obvious from what he is doing with the team and as captain on the field and also his team selections..

Both Sameen Gul and Arshad Iqbal warmed the bench this season, May be he foresee a situation would come that both Gul , Arshad Iqbal and lately Salman Irshad would cost Wahab's place in the 11... Smart guy eh:kp

Nightmare for Wahab tonight.

4 overs 0 for 52 and he undid all the good work that the likes of Salman Irshad did.

Just couldn't get his length right and then all those wides.

During the t20wc last year , he said will carry on playing and wanted to play in 2022 T20WC and 2023 50 over WC and then hang the boots...

He should have been gone ever since 2017 CT where he pulled his theatrics move after getting smashed by India all round the park, and the team went on win the tournament replacing him..

he is been bowling like this for a long long time.. Short and wide outside off stump is his stock ball in cricket...

He doesn't have any intensity in his bowling anymore. Just runs in and bowls for the heck of it. He was poor the entire season.

Pakistan Cup 2022:

In return, Northern were dismissed for 163 in the 24th over. Umar Amin – the centurion in the last match top-scored with a 29-ball 34, hitting two fours and as many sixes. Central Punjab’s Wahab Riaz picked four wickets for 23. Ahmed Bashir and Qasim Akram bagged two wickets each.

Pakistani Seniors are killing it at this stage towards the end of their careers, Hafeez and Malik to name a few.

Wahab on the other hand has completely lost the plot, it's shocking because he's younger then Hafeez and Malik, but just so mediocre.

He took 4/23 yesterday. How’s that losing the plot.

Back to his best!

MULTAN: Central Punjab (CP)'s skipper Wahab Riaz bowled probably the longest over in List A format, bowling 14 balls in the first over of their semi-final contest against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) in the Pakistan Cup here on Monday.

Coming out to bowl the opening over after CP set KPK to chase 282 runs in 50 overs, Wahab bowled eight wides which forced him to bowl 14 balls in an over, conceding 21 runs.

If PCB wants a bright future then this guy needs to be dumped as a player in the next PSL.

Who is PCB to decide which players a franchise can pick/or not pick?

Also, let’s not act as if there’s crazy bowling talent coming out of Pakistan. If there was then we’d be seeing it in the Pakistan Cup.

Make no mistake. We dont have too many bowlers in Pakistan who are better at T20 then Wahab, but my issue is when you make such players captains who have no future to represent Pakistan again. I know the main purpose of PSL is to make money, but it also needs to act as platform to launch and groom players.

I feel gutted when I see Wahab, Kamran & Sohail Tanveer playing PSL and it hurts even more when one of them is captain. Thats just my view.

Veteran pacer Wahab Riaz has opened up about the future of Ramiz Raja as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

According to reports, Najam Sethi is likely to replace Raja due to the former’s close ties with Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif — who is also the PCB’s Patron-in-Chief.

“It’s the Patron’s decision to continue Raja as PCB Chairman or not,” Riaz told reporters in Lahore. “However, this is a political issue and I don’t have much to say in this regard.”

Riaz, who last played for Pakistan in December 2020, is also confident about making a comeback in the national side.

“I will continue to put in the hard yards and hope that I will get the opportunity to make a comeback,” he said.

He also backed fellow pacer Mohammad Amir to return to the national side.

“I have no doubt about Amir’s ability and I’m hopeful that he will perform well and go on to represent Pakistan once again,” he said.

The left-armer also stressed the importance of departmental cricket in Pakistan despite the fact that it was replaced by regional cricket structure during former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s tenure.

“Many cricketers have benefitted from departmental cricket which includes financial support as well. I also polished my skills while playing in that system,” he concluded.

Happy birthday to Wahab Riaz

Expect to see Wahab in action for the remainder of The Hundred after his late arrival in the UK due to visa issues.

only way in is being ******* for Sharif and Sethi company , which seems like he already signed in to be.

He should announce international retirement if he is unable to make it to wt20 squad. No point in hanging there after that.

Should be in action for the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred soon

Making a debut for Northern Superchargers - very economical :)

Northern Superchargers update: Wahab Riaz has been ruled out with injury and will be replaced by Wayne Parnell for the remainder of the competition, effective immediately (Parnell was due to replace Bravo but will switch to replace Wahab)

Wahab may be taking wickets in T10, but I’ve just seen his first over in the current game and he is looking a shadow of himself. He’s gained a lot of weight, lost all his pace and is coming off almost a spinner’s run up. Clearly feels his time is up!

Wahab Riaz on TV:

“I was talking to one of the board members and he said he was happy that Ramiz bhai was going. So, the people who worked under you were not happy with you. I had messaged Ramiz bhai 4-5 times during his tenure, I said I'm waiting for your message and your call. He didn't reply me back. Why? I'm a present cricketer, I didn't take retirement,”

Currently participating in BPL for Khulna Tigers - scored 10(3) - to bowl soon

You don’t need to be a “hater” to come to the conclusion that Wahab is a poor bowler.

He is always on the cusp of getting smashed and losing his team the game. He is always one or two games away from having a complete meltdown, and when has 2-3 decent performances after a dozen average outings, those decent performances get overrated because of how poor he normally is.

He has no bowling intelligence, very little control and no skill with the ball except when the ball is reversing. After Mohali, he has been smashed by India every single time he has faced them.

Him getting injured was a major reason why Pakistan won the CT. It immediately improved the outlook of the bowling attack.

On top of that, he is 36 years old and will probably be touching 40 in reality considering how almost every Pakistani cricketer has reduced his age by a 2-3 years if not more.

I don’t know why it is hard for some people to acknowledge that Wahab is a poor bowler and any so-called improvement at this stage of his career is nothing but a false hope.

It is true that Pakistan has virtually no talent and almost every young player coming through the system is mediocre.

However, for every pathetic young bowler like Naseem, Pakistan has also produced the likes of Shaheen, and if they continue to look around, it shouldn’t take long for them to find a better bowler than Wahab, or at least someone who is equally mediocre like Wahab but is not going through a midlife crisis and is half his age.

I would have to agree with this post. Wahab is a joke. Always has been. I can think of 30 better test bowlers from around the world off the top of my head in Wahab's era alone.

Exactly as i mentioned in my post here #89

His time for intl outing should end there, pls dont bring back him or Amir ...

The current pace attack was lethal as they showcased talent in AUS few months ago.. They can add Sameen Gul to the existing attack as an extra man for the pace battery...

Average at best, if anything he probably played more than he should have while few others actually deserved more chances (for example Junaid Khan.)

I do give him credit for having transformed from a fast-medium bowler to a genuinely fast bowler and for those 2015 WC spells.

Another excellent performance for Wahab today in BPL

4/36 in 4 overs

The only occasion where I think we missed a trick with him was by not selecting him for the 2021 T20 World Cup. He had done very well in the PSL that year and could have been the best replacement mid-tournament for an underperforming Hasan Ali.

400 T20 Wickets for Wahab Riaz:

First Pakistani to the landmark
Sixth bowler overall
Second pacer after DJ Bravo

Not sure about accuracy of speedguns in BPL but this is what is shown

Hit for six sixes in a row by Iftikhar Ahmed - seems Wahab's days in PSL maybe ending soon

He needs to accept the fact that he is finished and hang up his boots. I’m certain this is his last PSL because I don’t see Zalmi retaining him as a player next season and no other franchise will take a second look at him.

Just retire and join the coaching staff, although I wonder if he has anything to coach to anyone considering he has no clue about bowling.

Wahab was a nothing bowler when its not reversing. And his camio against Australia in 2015 world cup is quite overrated where he was unable to take wickets and win the game. Just beating Watson for a 2-3 over spell without taking a wicket and a 5 wicket haul in 2011 semi final are the only achievements of his career so far.

TBF, that was on "the Rahat" for dropping a dolly. With Pakistan, if its not you, your teammate will screw you.

Yes he dropped a dolly but if wahab was bowling that superbly as he is remembered for that match, then he could have made more chances with lbws, caught behind, bowled or something else which looks more convincing and satisfying for a bowler than getting a batsman caught on a boundary line. Anyways if that catch was taken then also Australia would have won convincingly.

In his mind he thinks his mitch Johnson starc akram all rolled into one.

Reality is his not really that good. Bowls well in icc tourneys though !!

It’s shameful that an experienced bowler like him bowls no balls like he does. Embarrassing stuff.

He bowled decently well got key wicket off Malik but having that much experience he should be able keep your foot behind the line also dropped a catch.

He is and was a decent bowler. However makes too many rookie mistakes . Did not do justice to his decent talent.

PSL is getting tough for him still has the pace but still a spray gun too ,the no balls @ crucial times are just a SIN for someone with so much experience,Good for inferior leagues like BPL & 100s etc not international material anymore just like Aamir & Imad

He bowled alright today for someone playing his last or second to last season as a fast bowler

Wahab has the worst economy rate vs MS in PSL - and it's showing.

No ball problems continue for Wahab - for an experienced player like him, that is pathetic.

I feel he's trying to do too much there in the final over; keeping the discipline is the main focus and should strive to bowl legally instead of searching for the magic ball. Need to play the percentages in these situations but Wahab has never been the brightest.

Should have had Rizwan in the first over

Could have been a different day for him

Wahab Riaz in his presser:

Wahab said.

“As a player, I am enjoying myself. I have a better chance to show him or prove to him, what I am capable of. I can perform in this tournament and make a comeback [in national team]. It is good that he is leading, because there is less pressure on me. I can think about my bowling and execute it well"

“My aim is to win matches in this tournament in different situations. Your performance is not only dependent on how many wickets you take. It also depends on how you have bowled in different pressure situations,”

“I am looking forward to it and if it is in my fate, then I will definitely play 2023 World Cup,”

Babar Azam in an interview:

"The way Wahab Riaz is bowling, he has already played Bangladesh Premier League and many other leagues, so it helps us as he's an experienced bowler. His experience will benefit our youngsters, as they will learn from him and will polish down their skills,
