Id like someone to point out another batter in any other team who doesnt bowl who comes out after the lower order usually at 7-8 and only when there are 2-3 overs left and avges a huge 9 runs per innings for the year
Name me one pls
Can you point out another side with a top 3 like ours too?
Our style of cricket is a complete anomaly.
And for the moment, Asif despite his lack of recent success, is needed.
Needed for what exactly? Im not interested in what he can potentially bring to the table, but more what he actually does?
An avge of 9 over the last 15-20 games suggests he doesnt bring anything and isnt needed
It really is for the potential. We are going into the world cup....and in the most recent WC this guy won us two games singlehandedly.
He is the only batsman we have that has demonstrated winning matches from hopeless situations.
Given 95% of the time the top order consumes most of the deliveries he isn't doing much harm either.
But if the stars align and he gets a few in his range than he can make the impossible possible.

Doing well Asif - this could be his big game!
I'm sure by his standards it isDoing well Asif - this could be his big game!
How many super over games we get in a year? How many super overs pakistan has played in t20 history? When you say it like that, he does seem like a waste of space but if there is a superover situation or if Pakistan needs a couple of sixes, he's the man for the job.
Someone needs to do an analysis showing how many deliveries batsmen take to hit a six and see where Asif is placed.

Exactly and for that once in a blue moon situation asif is a must in teamMore interesting how many super overs has Pakistan played in the last 10 years
Please enlighten us againI read what you said loud and clear. You are talking in truisms and stating the obvious for which I care very little about. Yeah, I too want world peace and the end of human suffering, Doesn't mean it is a realistic thing that'll happen anytime soon, if ever.
The position that Asif Ali plays in, he CANNOT get more of a feel. This is a guy who is coming in with 3 overs to spare. There is only one way to bat in a situation like this.
Also, there is a reason why he is batting there. And it has less to do with the team not trusting him than it has to do with his strengths and what he brings to the table. One stat that I have mentioned far too many times here is that Asif Ali has a SR of 189 in the death-overs (second highest in the world). He also strikes at 150+ against bowling over 140 kph. These two stats tell you that there is no other position for him to bat but 6/7.
Asif Ali is a bits and pieces player who will probably never even be successful at ODI cricket. But that's okay because T20 cricket is a format that is made for bits and pieces players.
It's all about how smart YOU ARE in maximizing those bits and pieces.

Anyone doubting Asif Ali’s value should watch the video above and then go talk to some Afghanistan fans

About what? Think I have made my views on this matter abundantly clear. Maybe you should read the post again incase you missed something.
In the series against England, he hit 2 sixes in total...
This series, he hit zero sixes!
Yet to score a single 50 after playing just over 50 matches...
Is there anyone in the history of Pakistani cricket who has played for so long and only performed once in a blue moon?
Do you still believe asif ali belongs in international cricket?
Can we afford to waste a spot in the side for occasional couple of sixes? And even those sixes are becoming increasingly rare. He hit only 2 sixes in England series and may be 1 or 2 in tri series. He’s come in with many overs left in last 2 series but done nothing of note. Now even that excuse is out of the window.
I know pak is not richly talented in batting but Asif Ali supporters are trying to make it seem even worse.
Yeah and that too against Afghanistan or Bangladesh. And one day he will also be used in super over in next ten years.)
This is incredible.
Asif should stay in the team because one day, he might hit two sixes that wins Pakistan a game.
It doesn’t matter if those two sixes come after 100 games. He should be in the team because it might happen one day.
He has the easiest job in the game. The only player who has no accountability.
The Asif fan club is a work of art.

Its because most of them thinks such kind of 2-3 fluke hits wins them matches, not the people who contributes most of the runs with bat.If he would have hit 3-4 sixes today, his fans would puff their chests and claim that Pakistan would not have won without him and this is why he is in the team.
They don’t see the flaw in their argument. Even his family members cannot justify his selection with a straight face. Playing with Asif essentially means playing with 10 men.
He is the least useful player in the team by a country mile.
Is there anyone in the history of Pakistani cricket who has played for so long and only performed once in a blue moon?
Pir-e-Bhutan Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi
He is easily the worst player ever to represent Pak for 50+ international games. By a fair margin
Asad Shafiq's odi career says hi
Not much of a fan of Asif, he isnt even a batsman, just a proper slogger. He has won Pakistan games however (more than Asad could ever say_, and due to how cowardly our batting tactics are, even Asif's 15 run average has its uses
Asad Shafiq was a test player u can't compare him to a low grade slogger. Asad has hundreds in Aus SA Eng.
Asif swings his bat blindly and it comes off once in a blue moon. That's all there is to his batting. The probability of him winning a match is the lowest ever for any lower order batter.
Agree that Asif is a blind slogger, but i reffered to Asad’s odi career, which is probsbly one of the worst in history
utterly brainless.
I think you have forgotten your favourite ODI batsman Younis Khan)
The worst player to come out of Pakistan! The whole management and the coach and captain should be sacked on Asif’s persistent selection despite zero performance.
I am surprised that I ams aying this but PCT missed Asif yesterday. Asif had pulled Pak out of trouble a couple of times whilst chasing 130ish scores against AFG and NZ. If Asif was played instead of Haider he might have hit a couple of lusty blows and secured his place for another 20-30 internationsla. Though him handling the Perth bounce is a big question mark.
Watched the knock live nearly took them over the line it was a superb innings.
Should be white ball captain lol![]()
Uneducated Cricket. Has he been tried as opener? And back to normal but interesting point by the comms on where he should play in the line-up
