"I have lots to learn but I'm happy with my progress" : Mohammad Asghar

I thought he would definitely play for Pakistan regularly. I wonder where it has gone wrong from him. Has he upset someone in the higher ups in the PCB?

He is a long term prospect and needs to be backed and supported. He could play in all three formats. Needs to be given confidence. I think he is a better bowler than Zafar Gauhar (who is also very good but Asghar has more variety). He has generally shown really good control in the National T20 even though his figures don't reflect it.

I think usman qadir is the best out of the lot

No ,just gone backwards. He has lost his flight and dip and is looking at becoming Imad 2.0. Just another talented wasted. He has more potential than than the likes of Gohar, who is just very average but unfortunately, he too has become very average.

He was never like that. Playing too much T20s and poor domestic pitches have contributed to him becoming similar to Imad.

That variety, the zip, the flight, the turn - it's hardly there.

I had big hopes for this lad, but he's become a fairly standard bowler these days with a rare good performance.

That's the danger for young spinners. Chasing the $ in the short term without learning their trade can destroy their careers. For me Asghar can still turn it around but I just don't see it.

Its the desperation to succeed at T20 means that they look for a template that works, and for me Imad is the terrible template these young bowlers are using. Imads legacy for our young left arm spinners will be a very negative one.

Rate him higher then zafar but not sure he has fully committed to his game past couple of years, still young though so can bounce back

I just watched him and he is Giving the ball air but due to firing it in for T20 cricket for the last 3 years, he over pitches too often. Needs to keep giving it flight and work 100s of hours in the nets on getting the ball to drop.

He is too wide off the crease- its ok as variation or if you turn the ball ball alot, but with him it isnt. He needs to bowl from the middle of the crease and that way the ball doesnt have to turn as much to beat the bat.

QeA20, 2nd XIs, Round 9, Day 3:

For Sindh, left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar took six for 53 and ended up with match figures of eight for 143.

Dropped from the first XI but immediately does well in the second XI, I think a lesson to be learned here?

From PCB report:

Balochistan made 414 before they were all out in 126 overs. Akbar-ur-Rehman added 39 to his yesterday’s score before he was dismissed on 164 by Mohammad Asghar, who recorded his ninth five-wicket haul.

Akbar’s 306-ball innings included 16 fours and a six.

Twenty-one-year-old Asghar returned five for 101 in 34 overs.

Spinners are the only type of players who should never debut early and should spend years toiling in domestic cricket first.

I have high hope for Asghar and though I doubt he’s 21, it’s exciting to think of him with 5 more years of cricket under his belt.

He could be as good as Herath.

Liked the way he spun the ball and had arm ball in his armory so I'm hopefully he comes back into form as its important for Pakistan test team in the future because Nauman can't play for long so need to make preparations.

Food to see Mohammad Asghar is still playing cricket despite being so ignored by selectors for a decade. He has taken 3 wickets while conceding just 19 runs in 3 overs which helped Karachi Blues victory over Quetta in National T20 Cup 2023.

I totally forgot these guy still existed. He was the next big thing in Pakistan at one stage?

He is only 24 (official age at least).

He should be groomed for international cricket. Bowling averages aren't too bad.

Had the talent to be good, but went into bowling the imad Wasim mode of rubbish of indippers and forgot that the most important ingredient is sharp spin.
