"We all know that Umar Akmal is a talented player" : Sarfaraz Ahmed

Sarfaraz Ahmed at a presser:

"Also the way Umar Akmal batted was great and we hope that his good form will be very useful for the side in the future"

"We all know that Umar Akmal is a talented player and has put in some good performances for Pakistan and has also been performing well in domestic cricket also, so Umar has a lot of cricket left in him"

"We all know that when he in his 'nick' he plays well so we pray that if he continues like that and he will make a comeback in the Pakistan team one day"

"As I have said before, if we see an exceptional player like Shadab Khan in the past, then we will consider him to play for Pakistan"

"Look there is nothing to be disappointed about [for Ahmed Shehzad] as the tournament has just started. There will be ups and downs, and there is no such thing to worry about, as he is playing after a long time in such competitive cricket and when that happens we need to give him some time, he is our main player and we will give him as much confidence as we can"

Umar Akmal post match presentation quotes

"I would like to thank Allah, I will give credit to my team for the sessions they did with us, they gave a lot of confidence. Our coaching staff deserves all the credit"

"I've done a lot of workouts and I'd like to give credit to my personal trainer Paul, whenever I've asked him, he's done hard work with me. I am very excited"

(Ramiz: No more nihari and rice?) "I stopped that a long time ago when you asked me to"

"I want to forget everything in the past and look to the future, God willing I will try to build innings in every match"

"Today the coaching staff Moin bhai and Razzaq bhai said if you stay at the wicket, we will win the match. When Sarfaraz came to the crease, I asked him for permission and he said let's just put on a partnership here and Allah will make us win the match easily. So I listened to him and we had a partnership and QG won the match"

to be honest, the partnership between him and sarfraz was terrible.

THere were atleast 5 run out attempts. It was pathetic on Peshawars part but these two could had made a mess

that was mostly due to sarfraz

he has a knack of running when there isn't a run

Quetta just went from my favorite team to least liked. They have some cringe worthy players and coaching staff.

Looked a little bit fitter did Umar.

But still not as fit as he was a few years ago.

he is obviously not going to be as lean as he was when he was 7 or 8 years ago but he definitely looked better than in that series down under in 2017.

So Shehzad set to get more chances by what sarfraz is saying.

He did look in much better shape than he has done in recent years. Good for him, he's pretty much wasted his talent and ended up in the wilderness because of a poor attitude, he can still turn it around if he really wants to.

This is why we have a poor quality cricket when we play internationally. How can hard it be to change things? Why not try someone who would be benched for majority of PSL, for the same number of matches they try selfie shehzad? And then this selfie-zad would again play the same number of matches in next PSL.

Instead of helping us to see whether we really have talented players, all we see is a tested failure keep on trying unless he hit a jackpot once/twice in a blue moon, which sways selectors like inzi to put him in national squad.

Absolutely pathetic & depressing to know what is going on.

So it took him all this while to sort his diet out. No offence but he still does not look all that fit to me when compared to the Bollywood physiques of the Indian players. He used to be very learn in his early 20's.

UA quotes from 2019 read the same as they did in 2009 or whatever. There is just no growth.

And it is too early to claim victory after one innings. Keep your head down and keep working hard. Leave the taking to Ramiz.

This guy will always have disciplinary and attitude issues. He has already wasted 7 years occupying 4th batting position chewing up opportunities for many other deserving players.

U. Akmal will do fine playing T20 leagues around the world. Pakistan team is not for him.

Why are people mocking him? He’s clearly taken steps towards fitness overall and stopped messing with the law as well. He has ability and is aiming to make best of whatever time is left. Let’s back him to prove himself, nowhere am I saying to select him on the back of 1 PSL inning.

Coz they still think he is the same brat that we've seen before.

If he's working on his game then that's good. He should be applauded for it.
Dunno why there is so much hate for him

I hope he continues to give certain posters stomache. If he is recalled I won't cry. I'm convinced he will represent Pakistan again. Let's hope we see a different Umar Akmal.

Is he still a water addict though? That is the question . Needs to give that stuff up to be truly fit.

He shouldn't stop eating Nihari and Rice or Biryani or Gosht but keep the portions small.

His next outing for Quetta will show exactly what progress he has made and all this debate about his diet will fade away if he keeps on scoring,

Injuries is another thing, but I can never understand how a professional athlete can let his fitness suffer due to being overweight! Weight is something that you can control, unlike injuries! Being overweight as an athlete just screams lazyness and lack of motivation!

Anyway, it's clear that sarfraz wants Umar to make a comeback in the national side for the WC. Shehzad can be given a few more chances in the PSL but that's where it ends for him.

While I was delighted to see him score runs, I do think it was a very risky innings that was helped by luck. He had way too many ugly hoicks and plays and misses. Without luck, I don't see him scoring in this fashion again

what type of interviewer asks a player if he still eats nihari and rice?

ramiz is just a total embarrassment

No Human being should be stopped from eating Biryani :inti

A soft dismissal but no doubt he has been highly impressive!

Today's innings was pretty much chanceless. Threw it away in the end though.

Got to say I am struggling to see the logic in batsmen like Asif Ali, Shoaib Malik and Talat Hussain getting picked ahead of Akmal, ability wise he is streets ahead of all of them.

He's his own worst enemy if his lack of discipline is costing him his international career.

He isn't worse than the players who currently bat in our middle order and looks more impressive than anyone in the PSL. A few more good innings in the tournament will be enough for him to be recalled.

What suits him is the fact that he is playing directly for the captain of Pakistan, this should help for his international recall as he is clearly performing for him.

lol what are you talking about..don't you remember he was stopped by a traffic guy??

Losing the weight will help as well, it shows he is taking the criticism on board, and it was justified, let's be clear about that.

UA showed today why he is miles better than the hacks like Asif who is always aiming for midwicket.

I think it would be great to see a Sanju like biopic about Umar Akmal one day. His life has been quite a roller coaster up to now :))

4-5 years ago he got out in the same manner to Amit Mishra in Asia cup like he got out to the spinner today. Tells you about his progress.

:))) people like you drive me insane. So a player after playing a match winning unbeaten 70 odd in last and 44 runs innings this game gets out and has made zero progress. Please yar

yes let's ignore the runs he's making and only focus on how he got out.

based on your logic inzamam should have been dropped after he kept running himself out and didn't make any progress on his running over 15 or so years

I too want him to do well bro. But if he is showing glimpses of previous flaws then it is worrisome.

No, don't really follow cricket that closely these days, never heard anything about it.

that was the humor. This forum is full of people who don't want him in the team not because skills but because media has been following him for bad news like that dance and traffic guard incident. Sure UA may not be the best personality out there but guy has skills and it's injustice to fans like us that we have to go through torture of guys like minnow bashers Asif when we have UA.

Teams would pick on his weakness against leg spin and introduce it earlier to him in his innings.

Water??

yes you're right he should be hitting 200 metre sixes against them...

were you even watching the match?

delport is not a leg spinner

shadab is a leg spinner

shadab he carted around <-- leg spinner

:))):)):))) hilarious logic. Some people have some really extreme level hate for UA for god knows what reasons.

Every batsman has a weakness, its how you manage it is what makes a difference. He looks an improved and confident player then couple of years ago:

I too want him to do well bro. But if he is showing glimpses of previous flaws then it is worrisome.

Even with all his flaws he has the ability to do things which others cant.

Yeah agreed, although the critics have a point as well. It's very frustrating if you are a fan of Umar to see him out of the team, but he has had issues with all of his coaches, so clearly he had an attitude problem.

Pakistan has very few world class batsmen so to see one of their better players on the sidelines is annoying. Would be good to see him back in the team if he has got his head straight, would be a big asset in the Pakistan team.

What an idiotic statement. So everyone else does not disappoint God in one shape of form or the other?

Lol..he now understands the way to beat Ramiz as Pak's primary commie.

Good to see him score runs in the 2 matches he played, but if we look into both of his innings lacked strike rotation.. To me it looks he is still playing the old times of akmal where he plays ( 0, 0 ,4, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 6, 4 , 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0 , 1, 0, 0 big heave risky shot for 2 runs and out).

He needs to improve on strike rotation and play risk free shots for boundaries to get back into the national ODI side..

But for T20 he can be selected ahead of Asif ali any day
