NEW DELHI: The crack in her voice does not impair the statement that she makes but they do commission a moment of thought. Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of Captain Mandeep Singh who was killed in the 1999 Kargil War, has said she has received a barrage of threats including that of rape after she spoke out against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad or ABVP, a student union linked to the ruling BJP, following the violence at Delhi's Ramjas College on Wednesday.

"I've been getting a lot of threats on social media. When you open the profile picture that I changed, you keep seeing there are people threatening me and calling me an anti-nationalist. I think it's very scary when people threaten you with violence or with rape. There is this guy called Rahul and he's given a very detailed explanation in a comment saying how he would like to rape me. That is very scary," she said on NDTV's show We The People tonight.

Countering Ms Kaur's remarks, ABVP's National spokesperson, Saket Bahuguna said, "Wherever we see that the integrity of our country is at stake, ABVP will protest."

Clashes had erupted outside the campus of Ramjas College between groups of students after the ABVP objected to an invitation for a seminar to Jawaharlal Nehru University student Umar Khalid, who had been accused of sedition over an event last year where anti-India slogans were allegedly raised.

A 140-word Facebook post and a picture that she posted hours after the clashes went viral. In the picture, the Lady Shri Ram College student held a handwritten placard that read: "I am a student from Delhi University. I am not afraid of ABVP. I am not alone. Every student of India is with me. #StudentsAgainstABVP".

But the messages of solidarity and criticism to her post were also accompanied by a torrent of ugly abuse. The post has been shared nearly 3,000 times and received more than 1,000 comments in four days.

People says they want peace but they work for wars. People say one thing but do another.

It is impossible for people to have peace between themselves unless people work for it. How can any people work for peace if they have no idea on what basis? So conflicts and wars will continue as always unless people work out a formula for peace between them that removes all conflicts from between them. For help with understanding what is going on and why see HERE.

India really needs to do something about the rape culture.

Irony kills itself when we Pakistanis of all people try to claim the moral high ground on this particular issue, never mind the moral aspect of gloating about something like this to score political points.

Those supporting Gurmehar are Pro-Pakistan, throw them out of India: Haryana minister

Haryana's Sports Minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said those who are supporting Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur for her campaign against the ABVP, were pro-Pakistan and should be thrown out of the country.

"Those who are supporting Gurmehar Kaur are all pro-Pakistan. Such people have no right to live in India and they should be thrown out of the country," the Minister, who is also a Bharatiya Janata Party leader, told the media.

The Lady Shri Ram College student launched a social media campaign against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's student organisation, in the aftermath of the February 22 violence at the Ramjas College on the Delhi University campus.

The ABVP activists have been accused of assaulting students and teachers.

Facing death and rape threats, and criticism from several quarters including union ministers, Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of a slain Army officer, on Tuesday announced withdrawing the campaign.

Its very courageous on part of this young girl to promote peace with Pakistan inspite of losing her father in a war, yet she and her supporters continue to get labelled as Pro-Pakistanis who deserve to be thrown out of India. Sad state of affairs in a modern democratic Nation.

Of course they are Pro-Pakistan.

Pakistan will always be a rival nation as long as Kashmir is burning.

You cannot have peace with a nation who wants to break a large chunk of land from your country.

Thanks for that information OP. Good to know that there are sane voices on the other side of the border and they should be supported rather than threatened in such a horrific manner.

Of course they are Pro-Pakistan.
Does that also apply to Indian posters who spend a significant amount of their time on a primarily Pakistani forum? Are they perhaps also keeping this aspect of their social activities hush hush for fear of being labelled pro-Pakistan? :))

Nope.

Posting on an cricket form =/= Kashmir issue.

The day to day mayhem going on in Kashmir will not let any kind of friendship to flourish between the 2 countries.

I personally would want India and Pak to get along well. All South Asian countries should form a united front. But with Kashmir issue unresolved, there can never be peace between India and Pak.

This rhetoric is chillingly similar to the kind employed by our very own conservatives and nationalists. I guess some things never change no matter how many imaginary lines you draw on a map, a sick people will remain sick even if you separate them from other sick people on account of religious differences. Easy enough to destroy someone's credibility by claiming they're working on the other country's agenda and given the kind of intellectually challenged idiots that inhabit the subcontinent, an accusation is basically conclusive evidence as long as it panders to the majority's preconceived notions and biases.
