A statue of Mahatma Gandhi in London has been vandalised with the word “terrorist” daubed on its plinth.

The vandalism is said to have occurred on Sunday evening, four days before the 156th anniversary of Gandhi’s birth on Oct 2 1869, which is also observed as the International Day of Non-Violence.

The bronze statue was unveiled in 1968 in Tavistock Square to commemorate Gandhi’s years as a law student at University College London.

The Indian High Commission has demanded “immediate action” against those responsible, calling it a “shameful act” and an “assault on the legacy of non-violence”.

The High Commission said it had “taken this up strongly with local authorities for immediate action, and our team is already on site, coordinating with authorities to restore the statue to its original dignity”.

Images of the statue posted on X showed the word “terrorist” spray-painted repeatedly in black on the surface of the statue’s plinth, along with the words Gandhi, Modi and Hindustani.

The Metropolitan Police said they were investigating the incident, which is being treated as “racially aggravated”. No arrests have been made. Camden Council said that cleaning teams had been sent to the site.

Imagine making Gandhi the target of your Hindutva hatred, when in fact he spent his life resisting hyper-nationalist Hindutvawadis, and remains despised by them even today as they continue to glorify his killer, Godse.

Be a hater if you must, but at least get your facts straight and choose the right reasons.

Anyway, Ideas cannot be vandalized. Gandhi’s message of peaceful coexistence, non-violence, and pride in one’s culture remain timeless teachings.

It's obviously someone from the subcontinent that has done it. Perhaps a Pakistani or Khalistani Sikh. It's a low thing to do.

Gandhi is hated by many in India for his role in the release of Rs 75 crores to Pakistan as part of the partition settlement. After violence broke out during partition, the government of India withheld this amount. Gandhi went on a hunger strike to pressurize the government to honour its commitment which they did. Many in India curse him to this day for this act. He also went on life endangering hunger strikes to protest violent riots in Bengal and many parts of India post partition.

That's a shame. It's obviously someone from the subcontinent that has done it. Perhaps a Pakistani or Khalistani Sikh. It's a low thing to do.

The great man has his flaws but left a wonderful legacy of kindness and tolerance. He is the furthest from being a terrorist.
Or it could have just been a right wing Hindu as was his murderer

Probably a Khalistani. They are the ones that hate Gandhi aka Congress party for Sikh riots and Modi for actively purging these loafers.
I doubt any Pakistani cares about Gandhi or his legacy.

Don’t really care about him, yeah. India today is not something we mentally or emotionally associate with him.

His legacy is part of our legacy. We owe him a lot.

But yeah most Pakistani sadly see him as a meme type figure than a figure who left a legacy.

Gandhi has actually many flaws that are not told, guy hated africans initially also his sex experiments, but still man every leader has flaws, bet they are'nt going to that to their so called hero churchill who was the biggest racist ever

The Hindutva folks believe Gandhi was a prop brought into the spotlight at the time when British Intelligence and the Government had already decided they would slowly transition India into a Republic.

According to them, Gandhi was merely a pawn and a convenient tool of the elite classes, used to garner support from India’s general population.

On top of that, of course, they also blame him for the Partition, which ultimately led to his assassination.

Churchill was pure, unadulterated evil. The fact that a murderous, xenophobic and twisted individual like him is remembered as a hero is an insult to the term. There’s a book I think by him or with quotes by him of how to make non white races feel inferior to break them mentally so it’s easier to overpower them.

There’s a lot of psyops used by scum like him as well as many other evil forces we see today to divide and conquer and make the common man doubt himself so he’s easier to rule over. He was a proponent of that when it comes to rule over the colonies. This ideology is basically how the British were able to break up the Muslim unity on an identity level, promoting nationalism and sectarianism, and something the Zionists still fund to this day to maintain division.

I don't think so as they wouldn't have bracketed him with their hero Modi. Just some ignorant yobs whoever it is. Gandhi was actually hated by the hindutvas, you are right about that. He was seen as weak and too passive by the hardliners, the majority hate him.

What this tell us is the modern generation are utterly clueless and I am now worried on who is going to be funding my pensions! LOL!

You have to be a moron or an alien to think Gandhi was a terrorist, he was as pacifist as they come.

However, we must raise awareness of Saffron Terrorism. Hindutva must be exposed - the biggest threat after Zionism!

The fact that we have Churchill's picture on banknotes in the UK is the biggest joke ever. Sure, he was an important figure during the Second World War, but that doesn't mean you treat such an evil and disgusting individual as some saint-like figure.

On the contrary he favored Muslims at the time of Partition

I despise him more than Hitler as it affected the Indian community most.
