I see sudden flashes of light in the corner of my eyes. Can anyone explain this?

I have a problem and would be glad if someone could help. I see orange-ish globes of light towards the outside of my eye sometimes. It usually happens twice or thrice a day. They usually just appear for 1 second and move from the top corner to the bottom corner but they don't usually disturb my vision because, obviously, no one uses corners of the eye to do something.

It just started about 3-4 months ago and I'm 17 years old. I just want to know if this is something serious and whether I should check with an ophthalmologist.
