Rizwan speaking at end of the match:

Jamieson bowled really well and he was the only difference between both teams - even though the conditions favoured the bowlers, but Jamieson bowled really well and also took many wickets in this series

I would like to congratulate New Zealand for becoming number one ranked Test team in the world

We would also like to raise our ranking but we need to improve our game in some departments and we will also get to the same ranking (1) one day

When you drop catches, you cannot win Tests but as a captain and player, I take full responsibility as I didnt do well as a keeper, our fielders totally failed in our fielding; We need to improve our batting in the top-order

Our bowlers did well earlier on but if you drop catches, the morale will go down - especially when you play against the number one side and top-ranked players

I enjoy my job - and if you look at my career, sometimes I have opened and sometimes gone at number 6 as I enjoy cricket

Captaincy was an honour for me and I would like to thank the PCB for their trust and belief in me, and whilst the result isnt good, my team and I did try our best and we are now looking forward to our series against South Africa.

When you drop catches, then its like having to take 30 wickets to win a Test match when you should be taking 20 wickets

Kane Williamson is the world's number one ranked Test player, if you drop his catch then he will score big runs against you - and is exactly what happened

Honestly speaking, we have to improve the most in our fielding - our batting is up and down a bit - but we hope we will play better against SA

Why don't Misbah and Waqar take it
They will hide and will answer sarcastically in press when back home to pakistan ,dodge all the questions

He won't last long in the team once his purple patch gets over. I feel bad for the good guy.

He may be dropped for SA Series after taking that responsibility. Unusual thing to do for a Pakistani player.

This shows his character. He's a good guy and will always have the honor of once being Pakistan's test captain.

No it's not your fault

We know who should actually be taking the "full" responsibility :wy:misbah3

Coming from a person who knows he won't be dropped as he was the best performer on the tour. Babar will take up the captaincy once he is fit hence even his captaincy is not under scrutiny. Smart move from the incompetent coach xi!

Rizwan made some terrible mistakes in the field as captain but had no major expectations at this point in this career.

Hopefully he learnt that international captaincy is a totally different ball game vs domestic captaincy

Why is he taking responsibility? Where is our overpaid Sooper coach/selector/proxy captain Misbah?

Better than most others to be honest.

Safaraz would've taken no responsibility.

Sad that blood sucking leeches like Misbah and Waqar are silent.

You should be the last person to take responsibility. You played to the best of your potential, you were let down by the team and team management. Also, no one expected you to win the series, Nz was playing in their home, they were the favourites to win anyway.

Remind me which Pakistani captain isn't an auto-pilot mode captain. I can not remember one Pakistani captain that couldn't be described by the same words.

its unfortunate that our saviour is another PIA autopilot captain. Never seen anyone as monotone and uncreative in their approach on the field since the last time I played cricket on Playstation 4.

Good batsman though, takes the pressure on. Just goes to show being a captain who can score runs or take wickets whilst the team is still heading in the wrong direction isnt going to change anything

Most impressive was how Rizwan didn't feel the pressure and kept performing with the bat as well despite nothing working for them in the field.

Shows he is mentally tough.

It is good he is fronting up. Can't say the same about MisYou who were missing at press conferences when chips were down.

In larger context though, it is meaningless to take responsibility. Whether he said it or not, it is understood that the captain has to take a giant part of the blame. The fact that he went on to cite fielding and top order as reasons for loss also shows he is not citing himself as the main reason.

Neither here nor there. Pakistan punched below their weight.

He's only saying this because he knows nobody is blaming him. Stand in captain who was one of the few performers in this sorry series.

If the heat was actually on him (like it is with Misbah and Waqar) i don't think he'd be saying this. The media would sacrifice him in that case.

Shadab said the same thing after the T20Is.

Neither guy can take full responsibility and both of them know it.

However, the beauty of cricket is such that the captain is indeed responsible. From finalising the XI to strategy and tactics. Any stable captain would be in the firing line automatically, with or without this statement.

"Jamieson bowled really well and he was the only difference between both teams"

The only difference? Yes ok Riz, whatever you say man.

I read the interview on Circbuzz and on there it said "Jamieson was the biggest difference between both teams"

We weren’t going to win this match regardless but there were definitely some poor choices.

One that stands out is a few others left before tea, Shan Masood goes out there meanwhile Shaheen is well rested and you need a wicket. They are struggling to score runs and you bring in... Shan?

Small but in cricket one wicket and spell can make or break a match.

He was just captain in place so it’s okay but yeah that’s basic stuff.

Can't blame Rizwan, he was thrown in at the deep end as skipper of a very poor Test side.

He batted well, did his best. Yes he could have captained better, but it till would have been 2-0.

Rizwan clearly said "He was the only difference"

Its possible that he said that at end of the game on the field but the presser he said clearly "only difference"

The difference was the catching and fielding 9 catches and 50 extra runs !

Why Misbah and Waqar silent? Will Mani and Wasim Khan will talk on behalf of them?
