What's new

I thought that 40+ year olds don't have the reflexes to survive in Aussie conditions?

Would you say same for Kohlis first hundred in Aus and then Sydney one in 2014?

He was very young back then and it's always good to see a young player score overseas. For example, Babar Azam scoring a dead rubber hundred in Sydney will mean a lot more than Younis' hundred, simply because of the level of expectations and lack of experience.

In that series, had Tendulkar, Dravid or Laxman scored a hundred, it would have been a pointless one like Younis'.

As far as as dead rubber hundred in 2014 is concerned, he scored throughout the series when it was still alive, unlike Younis who failed in 3 out of 4 innings when the series was alive.

Dead rubber? Every match played for your country is an honor and privelege for every player. If you doubt that then look at the way Warner celebrated his 100 before lunch, or what it meant to Renshaw who reached there. Its a competitive match on one of the toughest places to score and everyone should admire him for that.

Or the way Hazelwood celebrated getting Pakistan all out.

Sir please stop providing justifications. A dead rubber match when you are on the winning side is not the same as when you are on the losing side. Besides, Warner won them the MCG match so he performed when the series was alive.

It is an honor and a privilege, but when you have lost the series already without putting in great individual performances, performing in a dead rubber match doesn't mean much. This knock has simply been a personal milestone for Younis and didn't do anything for Pakistan because we have lost the series.

It is as useless as the wickets of Starc and Hazlewood in the dead rubber Test vs SA in Adelaide.

Nice explanation and Atleast some logic rather than nationality dictating the opinion as in mamoona case

I still think that if we draw this match then it will be a cherished hundred. We are on a long losing streak in Oz so if it's helps breaking that then it's worth its weight in gold

Yes it would, considering the overall situation of streak.

Unless Pak manages a draw here , the only one to gain from this knock is YK and if he continues to play for Pak its more harm for Pak . He still needs to be replaced , pak need to rebuild .

The initial arguement was I can't wait to see Younis fail outside UAE, where he will be hopping around for dismissals.. this was the time when we played England in UAE and YK was struggling against Anderson and Broad

Then the arguement was the pitches in England were subcontinental type wickets hence YK managed to score a 200..

Then the arguement was he is gonna fail down under..

He did fail in NZ..

However he was no Starc bunny, or Hazelwood bunny, he didn't only go after the spinners..

He scored a decent 60 odd in the 4th innings, which is pretty much his average score when he bats last..

He managed to grind out a 100 when his teammates were struggling at the other end, was well and truly onto a double for his country as well as played with the tail..

I had a debate with you where I mentioned YK is the sort of player who will give you a big knock every series, the same quality which is possessed by other greats from other sides, that they have the ability to take it away when it matters..

Sadly for him the knock went underappreciated because of lack of support from the other end..

The series would've been wide open had we managed to survive around 60 overs at the MCG on the final day, YK's knock has some value he proved to be a champion when others doubted him.. again proving critics and doubters wrong

He would have proved himself a champion had he produced this innings at the Gabba or the MCG, the argument was that he will struggle overseas and he did.

He failed in 14 out of 17 innings in England, New Zealand and Australia. If this isn't a struggle and a failure, I don't know what is.

His average is very good.. And if you can produce one such knock in every series away from home, that shows adaptibility and application, which only the Top players in the world have..

He didn't fail in all innings, go a few 30 odds here and there.. which is not bad
Ofcourse it's difficult to play away from home judging by how everyone struggles abroad these days
