"I want to become one of the top 3 bowlers in the world" : Naseem Shah

He should know Stuart Broad. Naseem is a bowler and Broad is a good role model due to his longevity and bowling brain.

Lol Buttler is England number 1 keeper in tests right now and Pope is a specialist batter. You may need to watch some more cricket like Naseem.

He knows who Broad is, as well as Anderson.

So they should unleash Sohail Khan against the English instead of Naseem?

No my point is that in english conditions weather you ball at 80 or 90 doesnt matter as much as English conditions are based around swing or seem.

TBF to Sohail, I think he was still able to bowl quick in the 1st innings but deteriorated badly in the 2nd due to lack of fitness. You need express pace for the reverse swing.

Tbh I dont class any current pacer as Express only shaoib and Lee are express bowlers

Archer and fergusson are next ones down

After that its shaheen, starc, shaheen, husnain, bumrah of top my head

I dont think you need Express pace but you need to ball consistanly over 86-90 and have a action for reserve swing

Yeah that's what I meant. I thought we could still refer 90 as express, my bad if this isn't the case.

If we started cricket today then I would say yes archer and fergusson but cricket started way back dont say Jeff Thompson I doubt they have accurate speeds collectors at that time.

So akhtar and Lee are express

All the rest not Express reverse sawing and shaheen will get more .were archer and English bowlers wont get as much cuz they dont play much in asain conditions. I expect this series to be battle of the bowlers

They do have accurate speed testers. The testing equipment used in the 79 test still exists and has been shown to still be as accurate as current equipment, if significantly bulkier and unsuitable to live testing

Abbas, Afridi and Shah offer different challenges to the batsmen. One should view their potential as a collective and they can thrive together. Abbas has a touch of Mohammad Asif. He is accurate, swings the ball and exerts control. Afridi has pace, bounce and has a challenging line. Shah has pace, is skiddy off the surface and can swing the ball in both directions. We need to encourage them to play to their true potential. They are very young and will learn with time and experience. So much negativity on some of the posts does not serve any purpose. We all recognize them as special talents and hope for their success! Pakistan should focus on a determined and disciplined batting display. The bowling is not our major concern.

You are absolutely right with his fitness. I mean who knows he might have improved his fitness.

For reverse swing you do not need to be express. In fact bowlers that bowl 85 to 87 miles per hr get the most reverse swing. Look at Broad and Anderson they are not Express but they reverse the ball impressively and massively.

So much hate for literally nothing. You have lost it of late, especially when it comes to Naseem.

Yes Stokes is overrated and all other English players are crap because a nobody fake 16 year old doesn’t know their names.

Naseem Shah is too arrogant and he will have a hard fall in reality check. Wait and watch.

We have another Hasan Ali on our hands. Our players just don’t learn, and this is the result of uneducated people getting attention and limelight. They don’t know how to act and react.

It is not his fault that his age is wrongly represented. He has corrected that himself. What do you want him to do. Give a disclaimer everytime he talks? He clarified it once and moved on. It's about time you do as well.

He is arrogant just because he said he will get their names wrong/doesn't know them properly?

Naseem will know their names when his team loses the series and he returns with a 40+ average and an economy rate of 4+.

He already does. Stokes, Morgan and Anderson and Broad too. Shocker!!

You want him to be the whole team?

Naseem thinks he is untouchable because he has been fast-tracked by a crap team.

A massive reality-check is waiting for him.

Where does he think that? All over the interview he had repeatedly stated that he is keen on learning and improving. If you are having trouble seeing this, look at Abdullah's post, he has bolded the relevant parts for you.

This is getting childish at this point.

So what was the speed of mohammed zahid ?

Ygm to many haters when pakistan dont produce they hate and when they get talent they stil hate ! I think they should focus on bowling and fielding no need to concentrate on batting

Agreed with everything you said well done haters can hate

I didnt say who will reverse it more, I just said an express bowler will not reverse swing more. Bowlers that bowl 85 to 87 miles per hr, get the most reverse swing. This is a fact and is supported by sports science and many coaches.

Weres evidence stating this that someone who bowls at 85-87 reserve swing it more

Typically you get reverse swing when you bowl 85 miles or above. But if you look at Jimmy Anderson, you would see that he bowls around 86 to 88 miles per hr which is around 140mph. Another example is Imran Khan (Pakistan Prime Minister), who used bowl around 140kph and get massive swing. Mohammad Asif was a bowler that bowled around mid 80 miles per hr and got massive swing. Even Amir pre ban would bowl around 142 mph and get swing.

I am not saying you cant swing with express speed, I am just saying is that when you bowl at around 88 miles per hr you will get the most swing.

Okay am happy with that but I belive asain bowlers will get more reserve due to the pitches they play on

Its still very quick though. Even some of our best exponents of reverse in history bowled the majority of balls at that speed including Waqar and Wasim with their effort balls at 90/90+.

Waqar, especially has those crazy banana swings.

Definitely, definitely PCB needs to conduct PR & Communication sessions with it’s leading players.

I am sure Naseem knows many other English players (batsmen), some of whom have played in PSL as well (if he doesn’t know, being a international pro cricketer, then it’s a bigger problem, even if he were genuine 17); but what he meant here is that apart from Root, he hardly cares about others. Which, may be a genuine case to a certain extent (though he should have added Stokes in any case), but you don’t say these things. I think, a smarter way to tell this was to praise English batting and mention Root specially.

Now, what will happen is English tabloids will get after PAK team (which is given 😩, no respite) and if Naseem fails to make a mark, he will be in front of the firing line. A lot of young pacers had been bluffed in past in SENA tours & many will be in future as well - get excited with the look, colour & carry of the wicket, then got spanked around for spraying the ball. First thing is, the bowling length is different, then the batsmen are much more accustomed to play such bowl g at their home condition - Naseem should focus more on developing his skills rather than talks. Also, I think PCB needs to make sure on tour young PAK players are protected from the British tabloids - God knows what they can extract out of your loose tongue!!!!

He actually said that he mainly knew Root's name; he also said that he knew Morgan and Ben Stokes and said England has other good players but he couldn't remember or pronounce their names properly. It definitely wasn't a slight at England, it was said more in a self-deprecating manner that the originally posted article failed to pick up on.

Most Pakistani players have little insight and give short answers. Naseem is comparatively quite mature.

Regarding the questions, one of the journalists today asked when he will be getting married... :ua

Reading some of our players interviews can be boring. Nothing wrong in majority of what he said but it's mostly common sense stuff lol. We get to happy over stuff like this. :))

Ahahaha at a journalist asking when he will get married. Let him settle into international cricket first! His growth as a human is something separate and none of the journalists business.

Baistrrow is a keeper azwell so why didnt they pick basitrow instead of pope ? So you changed from batter to someone who can keep

The article you showed was Pope keeping in NZ. They didn't have a back up keeper on the tour so they had to play Pope as a keeper.

When they played South Africa, Buttler played all the games. I can assure you there is no plans for Pope to be a keeper long term in test cricket.

If your going to quote me on every post please make sure you have done research.

Then why the kid is getting slaughtered here - nothing wrong in it. He is understandably not good with his words even in Urdu and this is his first English tour.

The original article I had posted had simplified the words and lacked context. Therefore, a few wasted no time in jumping on his back.

A few hours later, I posted the clarification and the full quotes and everyone disappeared. :(

But if he isnt a keeper why would they play him as a keeper surely he is a keeper hence why they didnt take another keeper.

I didnt say he didnt play all games am saying pope is a keeper and you said hes a batesman when I stated hes a Keeper

I literally just explained why they played him as a keeper. There was no back up keeper for the tour so they went with Pope.

There was uproar when Pope had to keep and questions why did ECB not select a back up keeper. I live in the UK mate I know. That's why on the next tour Bairstow was selected as back up.

Now I have educated on this topic, I won't be responding to anything further on this.

England will expose this bowler. I am looking forward to it.

I agree. He is an ordinary bowler.

Pakistan have only one world class/potentially world class bowler - Shaheen.

All others including Naseem, Hasnain and Rauf are average.

Sad state of affairs when one your main Test bowler is a snotty school kid. Where's the long term planning from PK cricket.

Too much is being read into the statements of a very very young bowler.

I fault the PCB here as players at such young age should not be exposed to press briefings unsupervised.

Having said that I can read some of the statements in this thread are reading into his abilities rather than the press statement. This is quite sad. Naseem certainly is a hot attitude type personality and from looks of it will have controversies in his career.

I personally don't care about controversies as long as he has the ability to win Pakistan games and the controversies are not associated with Pakistan cricket.

On Naseem's ability, it is very clear to me already that this kid has got something unique about him. Perhaps after 80s/90s I have come across a pacer with such a side-on action. Add to his unique action his ability to control the wrists at time of release. These are naturally gifted ability this kid is carrying in him. I have no doubt that he would be a successful bowler, although natural gifts can only take him to a certain point after which hardwork and a lot of it would have to kick in to be a memorable cricketer for Pakistan.

Given, his unique action I would not be surprised if he picks up a serious back injury. Already in his short career he has walked off the pitch on couple of occasions with injuries. I will be very annoyed though if he does pick up a career threatening injury or a long lasting injury that would make him change his action. Given, the advanced technology in the world today with presence of medical team including psychiatrist, this is completely on PCB's mismanagement if he gets injured. We have already wasted bowlers in the past due to injuries or controversies, we cannot lose another one now.

Naseem's best days of bowling are from now for at least next 5 years (if he remains injury free and fit). I'm certainly looking forward to see him bowl, he is kind of a flashback of Pakistani bowlers from the past. I wish him best in his career.

Mr Naseem Shah, you need to put your head down and work to improve. Let your bowling do the talking for you. Don’t follow the path of Hasan Ali.

Loving this, InshaAllah plenty of humble pie to be served in August. I’m noting your names down, and boy I come down hard on trolls

Fair comments by Naseem - nothing wrong with having ambition as long as he can back it up (he has been so far).

This tour could be huge for him - could start establishing himself as a presence in world cricket.
On the other hand if he doesn't deliver immediately, Wahab et al are ready to take his spot.

What I like is that he said top 3, not number 1. Shows that he humbly recognizes it’s too soon for him to aim too high, and puts paid to all those on this thread calling him arrogant.

Yeah he is a humble man. Another thing I loved is how he answered some stupid questions and was giving respect to his senior bowlers and bowlers that are the best right now. It def showed how humble the kid is. Also he doesnt look ahead he takes a game and series at a time.

When I tell you that there were stupid questions asked, I 100% mean it. Some stupid reporter asked him, "When are you getting married and what are your plans". Like the kid is 17 yrs old, and u asked him that. SMH.

His response was great :))) “inswing, outswing, you can think of these as my shaadi”

Yeah his response was amazing and hilarious.😂😂😂. The way he handled some questions that were asked in the interview was superb and it showed that he is mentally strong and a humble person. Also what I love about him and other youngsters like Shaheen and Babar is that they let their performance do the talking and their work ethic is exceptional. I hope they they keep performing like they have been.

he is already the fastest bowler in Asia.He is going to stay here for long time.He will be in top 3 in future.he definitely has the talent and potential.Wish you luck brother.

A massive reality-check is waiting for him.

So after an average of 64 and 3 wickets in 58 overs, you have to wonder who has received the bigger reality check: Naseem or Pakistani fans.

But at least he now knows the full names of Crawley and Buttler.

"If they treat me like a small kid, it will be their big loss," Shah told reporters.

"Age doesn't matter, it's my bowling that matters -- so they need to take me seriously."

LOL 😂

The article is misleading. You can check the actual quotes below that.

I don’t think they treated him like a small kid. They treated him like the mediocre bowling machine that he is and didn’t let him see any fear in their eyes.

He's bowled well in this test but has been unlucky.

Reminds me of young Ishant Sharma in Australia during 2007-08 tour. Who agrees?

Pakistanis getting owned again! First they hype up a nobody and then get humiliated! Very typical!!

Updated version of Mohammad Sami. First learn the art of bowling kid before trying to be the best bowler.

Great to be ambitious and set yourself big Goals - but start with achieving smaller goals first for the short term and medium term , like ‘ I want to be able to bowl a Yorker’ and ‘I want to be able to bowl inswing and outswing”, “I want to be able to bowl sharp bouncers”, and “I want to be able to take 5-fers against top teams”.

Believe me if you can achieve these smaller goals, you will stand a chance of achieving that bigger goal or else it’s like a baby wanting to be one of the world’s top three sprinters not yet having learnt to crawl, never mind walk.

He is in the same league as Bhatti! A mediocre player whose bowling has zero bite!

Good post.

It is all about one step at a time.
