I want to play Test cricket for England: Duanne Olivier [Update Post #64]

Other kolpak players who have gone on to play for England normally move towards the start of their career. This is different as Olivier is going mid career and is open to play for England.

Hopefully he is banned from all cricket in South Africa. Being selfish is fine, he is selfish and shameless as well. CSA does invest millions of dollars into grassroot cricket for these selfish brats to dump the national team and go to play for other nations.

Man, I know how us fans dream that our team dominates a player so fully that they quit, but never thought the way to dominate is to roll over

What do you expect from young SA players when you've got trendsetters like AB de Villiers?

But he could play IPL and still earn good money while playing for SA no?

I guess not as much. I think it was more to do with the fact that he never had security with SA which I think Yorkshire are giving him. Disappointed to see this decision though but oh well...

i don't understand the SA players logic.
dont they get paid enough in there? that they have to move out and sign these kolpak deals.

now the opportunities for cricketers are huge due to T20 leauge yet they still leave their teams.

This and they need to abolish the racial quota system asap.

It's true he chose money over country. The Kolpak rule itself is a joke. It blocks a potential spot of an English and rather it is filled by someone who is not even going to play for England in near future and he is not a part of international player roster.

Lol what does this have to do with the quota policy? He was still making the first team for South Africa in tests. Same goes for Rilee Rossouw who was seen as the future of South African batting and backed by the management despite a long line of failures at the start of his career. Some players just put financial security for their family above playing for their country and that will happen as long as the Kolpak rule exists, which is the real problem

Pathetic. No respect for people like him. Hope he never gets selected for England

Maybe he just wants to leave SA....

That's fine. However, he is advertising his betrayal for the whole world to see. As an international sportsman and celebrity, he's not like any other migrant. If he wanted to move from South Africa and play cricket for England, he could have done so but there was no need to make comments such as these.

While I do not wish to condemn a man for making a choice and label him as a traitor, I find it appalling that he has expressed his desire to play for England only a few weeks after retiring as a South African international.

Had he waited for a few years before publicly expressing his goal, I don’t think he would have faced much - if any - criticism.

The timing of his statement is extremely disrespectful and I highly doubt that even England would be impressed with his mindset.

Really shameful behaviour.

He was a rising star for SA so he took advantage of it by getting the first opportunity not just to buzz off to England but then saying he wants to play for the national team at the highest level.

I hope the ECB put a firm roadblock to this otherwise it will keep encouraging players from SA to do it in the future.

We will welcome him with open arms as we did Greig, Lamb, Smith, KP and Trott.

Quota policy may have nothing to do with this but I don't support quota. Like Kolpak, quota also acts as an influencer to quit SOU cricket and hence the mention.

He has zero respect for the national team. Really lucky to be born in SA where he could get away with this treachery. He deserves permanent ban from all cricket in SA, he is publicly humiliating them. This isn't like WICB where there is payment or management dispute. I have zero sympathy should his career crash and burn. A real venomous snake who bit the owner.
