"I want to score 10,000 Test runs" : Younis Khan

Its tough to make a case against YK when other batsman too are not performing.

LOL just one bad performance and PPers bump hilarious threads.... Oh man...

Guys you will come back in series... have faith in your players....

This is mismanagement of the highest order by both PCB & YK. Both of them needs to reach 10k Test runs - YK for obvious reasons & PCB (PAK) as well. If YK doesn't reach 10K; the way PCB & PAK as a whole gives damn middle finger to Test cricket - Bangladesh will have a 10K Test batsman ahead of PAK. SRL already has 2; Will will reach there for Kiwis.

It could have been so easily managed - YK to leave ANZ tour on personal reasons without retiaring while PCB could have called him back for the series in BD & UAE for 4/5 Tests which will be more than enough to cross even Gavaskar. And that is not new idea - BCCI arranged couple of Tests with WI so that ST can reach 200 Tests & play his last one at his home town stadium. Steve also retired at SCG.

This is so embrassing for a player serving PAK for almost 2 decades. On proper merit YK should be dropped from 2nd Test & might not play any further. He did same foolish thing with his ODI career & at this rate, his once average of 55 might go below 50 before he reaches 10k. YK deserves better than this, but only he can help himself.

Uae Khan :))) :))).

He's finished at this level, hopefully he gets to 10k runs asap and retires.

PCB could have allowed Yousuf to reach 10 K runs in OD as well , he was about 274 runs short only

True, PCB needs to be stern with him like they were with Inzamam and MoYo.

If he can get the remaining 151 pcb should retire him

If he can get the remaining 151 pcb should retire him

As long as it doesnt become a joke of him hanging on just so he can get to that milestone.

He needs to earn his position in the team by performing in every innings

Younis should retire but we should not forget that he helped us win at least one test in england last summer.

He has been a great servant of pakistan cricket and a wonderful test batsman , the best the country has seen so far. I think we should give him the respect he deserves , usually batsmen at their twilight start failing and only a few of them are good enough to call it a day at proper time. Inzamam failed to do so , still he managed to play a brilliant innings of 92* against south africa at port elizabeth in cape town. Minandad too had the same story.

The trend needs to end but we see it happens all over the world , ponting held on for a long time.

Will Younis Khan retire after getting to the 10k landmark?

Has Younis ever said in any interview that he'll retire after getting to the 10k landmark?

A lot of people here just assume that he'll hang up his boots after getting to the landmark which is a bit surprising.

Firstly, it will be very odd for a cricketer to retire as soon as he reaches a major run or wicket landmark. It will not reflect well on the player and will project a selfish image of the said player, which I don't think Younis would want to have.

Also there is a tour to India slated in Pakistan's ftp this time around next year. Now there is minimal chance of that tour going ahead, but you never know with the change in persnnel in the BCCI and their tendency to not let go of any opportunity to make money since the series is being hosted in India. It is not outside the realms of possibilities to imagine Younis saying that he would like to call it a day after the India tour, provided it goes ahead. Misbah has repeatedly said on air that he wanted to retire after the India series, so it's not too speculative to imagine Younis thinking in the same light.

Finally, Misbah retiring leaves an opportunity for Younis to take up the reins as the captain and I'm sure Younis would love to lead Pakistan in test cricket as the captain before his retirement.

So I think Younis' retirement after getting to the 10k landmark is not set in stone by any means. What do you guys think?

If there's one clear positive that Mickey can offer, it is to be adamant to the board that yk must go.

Knowing him, he will not.

Few in Pakistan cricket 'retire' retire, and he's the last person who one would expect to.

He will get 10k today I feel.

But I also feel that he'll stay on until next year and will retire after maybe improving his record in WI, which are the only bad numbers on his CV.

Of course if the India series somehow materializes, I can see him staying until the end of 2017. But still, I think there is a great chance of him leaving after WI 2017, which won't be too bad as the new team under a new captain will start of by touring Bangladesh and then playing SL for 3 Tests.

It is very good for the team.. Azhar ali will be the successor and MYK can instill some attacking brand of cricket into his minds via his own captaincy, which will make him learn the art of tactical captaincy from him which he is very good and better than MISBAH...

TalentSpotterPk how many more runs does he need to get 10K?

To be honest, YK hasn't had that bad of a tour, hasn't been great either but he has scored some runs, and got starts, and can hopefully get a hundred today.

Scoring a few soft runs isn't enough. Has failed when we needed him the most. Can't have a liability at #4.

InshaAllah he achieves the record in this Test, would be nice to get a well deserved ovation which would elude him in the desert called UAE where a pin drop can be heard

Praying he gets a hundred in this or next innings.

He looks like he has another year in the tank so can target 11,000. incredible batsman and player for Pakistan.

Considering we are only going to play 8-10 tests next year, he would need to average 100-125 to be able to score another 1,000 runs. Highly unlikely to happen and it's about time for the man to hang up his boots and let the younger generation take over. No point in playing on now.

TalentSpotterPk unlikely now right given that he has run out of partners but in the 2nd innings he can, I hope he gets the bulk of the 75 runs he needs tomorrow but it all depends on if Yasir can hang around

You are right. Yasir should have come ahead of Wahab.
