"I was enjoying bowling today because of the way the crowd was supporting us" : Naseem Shah

Naseem Shah at a presser after Day 1 of the 1st Test vs SL:

"Perhaps in the first session, we didn't bowl like we should have. Afterwards, our plan was to contain and we got results"

"I could've gotten another wicket or so from the way I was bowling towards the end. Tomorrow, we will try to get them out quickly before 250"

"There wasn't any pressure, I was very excited to play in front of home crowds on home grounds. In Australia, I got to see how a home side's supporters support their bowlers. I was enjoying bowling today because of the way the crowd was supporting us"

"The wicket had some moisture but SL played well in the first session"

"When we bowled in the right areas, we got help from the pitch. Usman bhai bowled with a good line and length, so did Shaheen and Abbas bhai contained them with his line and length"

"Playing in front of a home crowd is like playing at one's home so the support you get with every ball, every good ball, I would like to thank the crowd for supporting us"

"I am not focusing on any records but I want to do well for my country and perform well so that people remember me positively"

"We changed our plan a bit after the first session and focused on containing and that helped us to pick up wickets"

Good lad....lets hope you keep running in...in years to come..!
Whether its Pindi, Melbourne or Mohali...let the force be with you.
Good Luck.

Wonderful to see him enjoying himself at home and delivering also.

As said quite a few times before, if he remains fit he will be a force going forward.

Very heartening to hear. Playing test cricket at home is something else. An entire generation of cricketers were robbed of this opportunity by external factors not in their control. Finally the house is in order and let them flourish!

I hope we can manage Naseem work load better Ehsan and Sameen are desperately needed so we don't burn out Naseem and Shaheen when we can easily get10-15 years out off them.

Spot on.

He will turn out to be a good prospect. He needs to learn to seam/swing the ball from that corridor. Shinwari on the other hand looked a bit different. His pace was drastically low. Sometimes matching that of Abbas. But i am not complaining. Abbas, well, his pace is same like when he started. All he needs to do is find his mojo back. That nagging 4th stump and movement off seam. Shaheen, man o man, what a bowler. He has improved leaps and bounds since that horrendous tour to SA. Consistent pace, wrist remaining upright. Good great

Its the 1st time i have Seen Naseem in any detail and there is so much to get excited about. The seam was excellent and the pace was kept up. He needs to take the Mohammed SHAMI route, bowl on the 4th stump and full( driving length, not 1/2 volleys) and not be afraid to get driven if the batsman wants to take the risk.

Naseem Shah was very good today. He needs to bowl more overs in domestic cricket for the England series in the summer next yr. he can be a lethal weapon there, if he can strengthen his body and can bowl 7 overs spell upfront. He is a good find, need a proper coaching and management of workload. Musa is a odi and T20 bowler keep him there.

Naseem is a top talent, amount of pace he generates at this age is just amazing.

Something is seriously wrong in your cricket culture when a developing global superstar like Naseem Shah calls a 25 year old journeyman like Usman Shinwari who has literally ONE Test wicket "bhai".

It's just bizarre. It's as bizarre as that recent article calling Mohammad Abbas the "leader of the attack".

What the hell is wrong with that? Talk about over reactions.

I think that in sport - any sport - deference to senior colleagues is a very, very unhealthy and dangerous habit.

By all means defer to people who are better than you.

But sportsmen should never ever show respect to teammates who just happen to have been born sooner. This is a perfect example - Usman Shinwari happens to be older but has a quarter of as many Test wickets as Naseem Shah - he should be asking Naseem for advice.

It just creates a loser's culture, as typified by the fact that in this Test, 5 of Pakistan's 6 batsmen are over the age of 30, yet 3 of those old men have never even scored 1000 Test runs.

There are reactions. There are over reactions. Then there are your reactions. Stop embarrassing yourself with your so called analysis on everything.

In our culture we call someone a “bhai” out of respect, and not necessarily out of the number of wickets he has taken in Test matches!! We also call a rickshaw puller a bhai or a small grocer a bhai when they are older than we are.

That my point.

I get that Misbah’s Pakistan won a lot of home Tests against teams that arrived too late to acclimatise.

But for the last nine years Pakistan has made a fool of itself every time it leaves Asia because too many elderly has-beens masquerade as the national team.

The culture of deference to age to which you refer makes your sports teams a joke. It’s a template for failure.

And since Misbah somehow got this pair of jobs on the basis that age trumps qualifications the problem has got a whole lot worse.

Dude, we get it - you have a problem with the older guys in the team. But honestly, how many times are you going to reiterate the same point in different threads?

If I were not an active reader of PP forums, I'd imagine you were trolling us here.
Giving respect to elders is one of our culture's foundations. It has nothing to do with merit. Its basic human decency.

Bhai yaar.

So as soon as a potential superstar who has done nothing yet and is just a potential, steps into a team full of veteran people, he should start asserting himself and talk disrespectfully with others around so as not to defer to them? Come on, don't create an issue where there's none. Talking respectfully with anybody, esp with someone your senior, is a given.

I do agree that performance trumps seniority, but respect should not be dependent on performance.
