Ibtisam Sheikh - First impressions?

19 years old.From Hyderabad

Made his debut today vs Multan Sultans

Looks ok given he's bowling to Sangakkara and Malik.

Good first over and looks like he can spin it both ways.

Commentators say he is 16, cricinfo says he is 19

http://www.espncricinfo.com/pakistan/content/player/1123377.html

Javid Afridi says that he is from Hyderabad while Cricinfo has that he is from Faisalabad, PCB also says Hyderabad

Will probably make his debut in the Windies series next month.

Could be the much needed third spinner we are missing.

He bats at one down in first class. Interesting to see his batting also.

Future cult figure/ hero

Same league as the legendary Monty Panesar. Good bowler and an exciting character, good for cricket

He has temperament but no data on him. Its early days for him, I think he is at least 18 months away from a debut. Should feature in next A game for sure.

Very raw. A spinner’s quality is mostly judged wickets taken through a LBW, or edge. His first wicket was special, other two were meh.

Too early to judge, but nothing special in those first two performances.

Fast-growing PSL to benefit Pakistan cricket: Smith

DUBAI-Man-of-the-match Dwayne Smith has fully praised the Pakistan Super League, saying it has been growing fast and it will help Pakistan cricket a great deal.

Talking to The Nation, Smith, who hammered unbeaten 71 runs for Peshawar Zalmi against Karachi Kings, said: “Pakistan is blessed with highly talented players and it has been producing quality youngsters, who are bound to excel at higher level. The way youngster Ibtisam Sheikh played brilliantly, I couldn’t believe that he is a newcomer; rather I was feeling that he had played over 300 matches. He is very aggressive and always tries to give his 100 percent and this quality can help him become a great cricketer.”

Smith ruled out that his involvement in three run-outs hampered the Zalmi’s path to victory. He clarified that the run-outs are part of the game and sometimes, it doesn’t go in your favour. “That was not our day, that’s why we couldn’t perform up to the mark, which on the other hand, Karachi Kings put out extra efforts, which bore fruit for them in shape of 5-wicket win against us.”

When asked his efforts proved futile in the end, when Zalmi lost the match, he said: “There is still lot to play. We gave our best and unfortunately, we couldn’t win, but we will bounce back and play more aggressively in the next matches.”

When asked whether it was his plan to wait till last over and then cut lose, Smith said he was sure, as long as he stayed at the wicket, runs would come. “It was good competitive total in the end and we all play our part, but sometimes things didn’t go in your favour. The passion and involvement of Sub-continent crowd was excellent and it is always special to witness such a charged crowd.”

God! Only couple of games have passed and everyone is measuring players and the player who hasnt dont anything yet feels like international is the next thing to own.

I would wait atleast 60% of tourneys completion before start measuring their impacts/performances.

I remember Hassaan Khan performing quite well in the first few matches he played in the PSL. Not really that impressive anymore.

Hope this kid keeps up the intensity and performs well for the remainder of the tournament. Very young and talented, with good temperament.

Hassan is totally different case as he's finger spinner and not many really rated him but ibtisam as leggie with top action and harder art.

He's gotta learn to deliver the seam on angle to get turn. Putting a lot of revs but it's all top spin which is difficult to put away but not wicket taking in the longer formats.

Ibtisam Sheikh interview .

Got emotional for the guy who worked so hard,
Looks an educated an level headed kid.

Debut Ibtisam Sheikh in Scotland T20I Series

The two T20is in Scotland are dead rubber wins for Pakistan. We can afford to rest some of our top players. Perhaps rest a couple of batsmen to give chances for some new guys. Should Pakistan debut Ibtisam Sheikh? He is an accredited spinner who set the Pakistan Super League on fire. I believe he can be a superb bowling partner for Shadab Khan.

Not sure what the point of 2 leg spinners is.

Let him play few moths first!!!! I never comment on players after T20, and to do that for spinners, particularly leggi ...

He has to play FC cricket and at least one 35 overs innings where batsmen are not in a mad rush to go after - then you know. But, kid looks like genuine age, so time is at his side and prospect is very good, he has the first ingredient for a leggi - big turning leg spin as stock ball. Now, needs to stop playing T20, if possible totally or at least stop playing those Ramadan Cups & such and focus on FC cricket for couple of years

Not sure what the point of 2 leg spinners is.

Same thing as playing two left handed fast bowlers. You need bowlers who can take wickets, doesn’t matter what color, shape, type of person they are. 2 leg spinners actually is a bit similar to two off spinner attack (Hafeez and Ajmal) we had in the past.

Interesting if he gets picked for England!

I saw him bowl all through the PSL but unfortunately, I wasn't too thrilled. He is still very young and I expect him to get better and improve . . But I do think there are a few leg spinners that are better than him in the country.

I can't help but compare him to Shadab Khan in last years PSL and one thing stands out! Shadab constantly befuddled the batsmen! His quick arm action, revs and an amazing googly wrecked havoc. However, looking at Ibtisams wickets this year, most of them were batsman giving their wickets because its T20 rather than him getting them out through sheer skill!

In my opinion, he is far from being in consideration for the national side!

He has potential and the right attitude. He has some fans now and he has got some powerful people interested. Work hard, improve and continue to impress!

Ignored for PSL5 by all of the franchises.
