Every tournament has its surprises. Some teams might not be considered favorites, but they have enough firepower to pull off upsets. Afghanistan is one team everyone needs to keep an eye on. Their spinners, especially Rashid Khan and Mujeeb, can turn games on their own, and in subcontinental conditions, they could be a real threat. The only question is whether their batters can put up enough runs to back their bowling.

Bangladesh has been in international cricket long enough to not be called a "small team" anymore, but they still have that underdog tag when playing against the big sides. With experienced players like Shakib and Tamim, they have the skill to trouble any team. The key for them will be handling pressure and being consistent because they have a history of pulling off big wins and then losing unexpectedly.

Australia, despite being a dominant force in ICC events, comes into this tournament with a major challenge—missing their frontline pace attack. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, their usual spearheads, are all absent, which leaves their bowling attack looking vulnerable. While they still have enough talent in their squad, their second-string bowlers will have to step up in conditions that won’t necessarily suit them. Their batting remains strong, but without their experienced quicks, Australia might not have the same fear factor as before, making them a potential target for an upset.

With the omission of Cummins Hazlewood Starc , Australia have become dark horses from favourites.

The kind of pitches on offer, mostly it will be a batsman show and Australia have plenty.of them infact lethal hitters

Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel, while speaking on a local sports media outlet:

"There'll be India, Pakistan, South Africa, and Australia just given the record in the ICC trophies. But my dark horse is Afghanistan. They've got they've played really good cricket in 50-over format. It was just that Glenn Maxwell’s innings otherwise I think they were right there in the race to reach semifinals. So you know Afghanistan could come in and surprise all other teams."

There are only 8 teams. So, I don't expect many upsets.

But, it would be nice if we see 2-3 upsets. It can spice things up.

I would like 3 upsets. Ban qualifying for SF, winning SF, and then the finals. The true dark horse of the tournament LOL !:ROFLMAO:

Bracewell would be a great performer in CT 2025. Santner is just too good for any team

Almost all teams miss some players. NZ looks the most settled at this point. SA hasn't played their full strength team in a while. So they are another team that is interesting to watch. I still back England. They love Pakistan pitches. If Pakistan runs into England in semi finals on a flat track they will bash Pakistan from memory. Harry Brook will become a monster

Top five rising stars to watch at the Champions Trophy 2025

Here are five future stars set to make a name for themselves in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Shubman Gill (India)

Matches: 50, Runs: 2587 Average: 60.16 100s: 7 50s: 15 Highest score: 208

The Punjab top-order batter has been considered as a star in the making for India. Gill has gone from strength to strength in his young international career.

With over 2500 ODI runs at an impressive average of 60.16, and a highest score of 208 to go with it, it seems the only way for the India vice-captain is up.

He had a fantastic 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, scoring 354 runs at an average of 44.25 at a strike rate of 106.94, with a highest score of 92.

And more recently, Gill crossed fifty in all three outings in the ODI series against England ahead of the Champions Trophy. A match-winning knock of 87 (96) in the first One-Day International set the tone and he followed it up with a quickfire 60 (52) in the second. He then finally hit his seventh century in the limited overs format, scoring 112 (102) on his 50th One-Day International.

Gill secured the Player of the Series award as he scored 259 runs at an average of 86.33. His presence will bolster the India top order at the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand)

Matches: 29, Runs: 970, Average: 40.41***,* 100s**: 3, 50s: 4, Highest score: 123

Ravindra has risen to prominence in the international game since his debut. He's a dynamic batter at the top of the order for New Zealand and also contributes with some handy left-arm orthodox spin.

His performances at the 2023 Men’s World Cup in India saw him shine on the biggest stage, where he was the highest run-getter for New Zealand. Ravindra scored 578 runs across ten innings, at an impressive average of 64.22, where he drew level with New Zealand great Kane Williamson as his country’s top scorer at a Men’s ODI World Cup.

His strong form against spin will be the key for the Black Caps as they look to bounce back from their poor showing at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024.

With the ball, Rachin has 18 wickets in 29 ODIs, with his part-time spin.

With a decent showing against Sri Lanka at home in January, which included a knock of 79 (63) in Hamilton as New Zealand secured the ODI series going 2-0 up, Ravindra has an opportunity to again lead with his actions for the Black Caps at the Champions Trophy.

Noor Ahmad (Afghanistan)

Matches: 10, Wickets: 9, Average: 57.22, Economy rate: 6.05, BBI: 3/49

At only 20 years old, Noor Ahmad has had a meteoric rise. His rare skillset as a left-arm wrist spinner has proven to be an incredible asset for Afghanistan.

Noor has already gained valuable ICC tournament experience, at the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup and 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, making his mark almost instantly. Against Pakistan in the 2023 World Cup event, he picked up career-best figures in a historic win, taking 3/49 off his 10 overs, which included the wickets of well-established batters Mohammed Rizwan and Babar Azam.

Recently, Noor had a fine outing at the SA20 too, turning out for the Durban Super Giants as he took 13 wickets off nine innings with a best of 4/25 at an economy rate of 6.25. Following in the footsteps of his wrist-spinning compatriots, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor is one to watch for Afghanistan at the upcoming ICC event.

Naseem Shah (Pakistan)

Matches: 23 Wickets: 45 Average: 22.71 Economy rate: 5.28 BBI: 5/33

Arriving from Pakistan’s conveyor belt of pace bowling talent, Naseem Shah has made his mark in a hurry. Equipped with a blistering pace and a whippy action, it took Shah no time to create a reputation for himself on the world stage.

He took his first five-for in Test cricket against Sri Lanka in only his second game in the format. Soon after, he became the youngest player to take a Test hat-trick.

And with 45 wickets in 23 ODIs at an average of 22.71, and moving past his previous injury concerns, Shah is set to be an important weapon for Pakistan. Operating in familiar conditions, Naseem will be a key partner to Shaheen Afridi as the frontline pacers looking to help Pakistan defend their crown.

Harry Brook (England)

Matches: 23 Runs: 769 Average: 36.61 100s: 1 50s: 5 Highest score: 110*

Brook rose to prominence in 2022, as he made his ODI debut against South Africa and in only his second match, went on to score a solid 80 (75) against the Proteas.

Converting this start over to the Tests, he had a phenomenal run in 2022, joining Ben Stokes’s side in Pakistan as he scored 153 (172) and 87 (96) in the first and second innings of the first Test in Rawalpindi followed by back-to-back centuries of 108 (172) and 111 (210) in Multan and Lahore. He followed on this fine form with a tremendous 186 (270) in the second Test of the New Zealand Tour in 2023, going on to score 809 runs in nine innings in the royal whites.

He was a part of the England squad for the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 and scored 169 runs at a strike rate of 112.66, with a highest score of 66 in England’s loss to Afghanistan.

Brook was also in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad for England, scoring 145 runs at an average of 72.50 at a massive strike rate of 157.60, with a best score of 53 (37) in the campaign that saw the Three Lions end up semi-finalists.

The Champions Trophy could be the stage where the Englishman further cements his multi-format arrival in international cricket.

If Afghanistan batting can get partnerships going , and get reasonable total they will be formidable team.

Kiwis and Indian Team has best ammunition going in the CT.
India advantage is they can play a proper batter at number 8 , without compromising on bowling. Same , Kiwi.

England will surprise everyone. Their players love Pakistani conditions.
They are condition based team and if pakistan produce flat pitch then they will smashed everyone .

Archer, Wood ,Curse and Adil Rashid are Very good bowler's .

England will destroy Australia. May be a little tougher against SA possibly Afghanistan. But they will win enough matches to make it through to next round. Harry brook vs Pakistan on road pitches, Round 3.

Bharat

On a given day KL Rahul can score a century against anyone.

Afghanistan will qualify for semis alongside SA from their group.
England and Australia look extremely weak.
In our group its really hard to call between NZ, Pak and India.

I had heard so much about Afghanistan being the dark horse, but they have been very disappointing.

With Imam ul Haq now in the squad, there's no team more dangerous than Pakistan.

Yeah. For sure.

They are the home team. They have had a good run in ODI recently. I think they should be competitive. I expect them to beat India this time (in sha Allah).
Must suck to never have any of your expectations met :inti

To be honest i never expected Afghanistan to pull this one off. Two out of the world performances had to happen. If only they learn to field better under pressure they can beat more oppositions. It is not easy even for established nations. Remember the number of drops by South Africa in 2015 semi final against NZ. Fielding is an under-rated area in ICC events. That quiet often decides the fate. Been true since 1975 world cup. Richards caused 4 run outs if i am right. In 1983 Kapil dev's decisive catch of Viv Richards.

Now beat australia to qualified for semifinals.

Australia is saved against South Africa due to Rain .

:kp
Why do you want Australia out? What's the point of cricket if Australia isn't the team to beat.

Their literally the John cena/undertaker of cricket aka the greatest of all time.
