ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP 2019 SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

The Oval to host the tournament opener between England and South Africa on 30 May

Old Trafford and Edgbaston to stage the two semi-finals on 9 and 11 July respectively; Lord’s to host the final on 14 July

ICC Chief Executive David Richardson: “Next summer fans around the world will be treated to compelling and competitive cricket as the best teams in the world go head to head in this round robin format for the right to be crowned World Champions”

Steve Elworthy: “Today’s announcement of the schedule is another important moment in the build-up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 – the moment that the tournament comes to life for teams and cricket lovers across the world.”

The International Cricket Council today confirmed the schedule of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which will be staged in England and Wales from 30 May to 14 July.

England will open the tournament at The Oval on 30 May when they will take on South Africa, while Australia will launch their title defence on 1 June against the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier champions Afghanistan in a day/night match in Bristol.

Reigning ICC Champions Trophy winners and former champions Pakistan will start their campaign against the ICC World Twenty20 winners and two-time former champions the Windies at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on 31 May.

India, the 1983 and 2011 world champions who also won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 in England and Wales, will play their first match on 5 June against South Africa at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton. Their feature match against traditional rivals Pakistan will be at Old Trafford in Manchester on 16 June.

Old Trafford in Manchester and Edgbaston in Birmingham will stage the two semi-finals on 9 and 11 July, while Lord’s will play host to a World Cup final for the fifth time, on 14 July. All these three matches will have reserve days.

Eleven world-class venues will be used in the 46-day tournament in which each side will play the other once in a single-league format with the top four sides after 45 matches progressing to the semi-finals.

Old Trafford in Manchester will host maximum six matches, while Edgbaston in Birmingham, Hampshire Bowl in Southampton, Lord’s and The Oval (both in London), Trent Bridge in Nottingham will stage five matches each. Cardiff Wales Stadium in Cardiff and Headingley in Leeds have been allocated four matches each and County Ground Bristol in Bristol, County Ground Taunton in Taunton and The Riverside in Chester-le-Street have got three matches each.

ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said: “It’s always an exciting moment ahead of any major event to announce the schedule and for the ICC Cricket World Cup, it’s that extra special. Next summer fans around the world will be treated to compelling and competitive cricket as the best teams in the world go head to head in this round robin format for the right to be crowned World Champions.

“This schedule also gives fans across England and Wales the opportunity to watch world class cricket on their doorstep with all teams moving around the country. We know from previous ICC events that every country will be proudly supported at each of the venues creating an exceptional atmosphere and a real celebration of the game.”

ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Managing Director Steve Elworthy said: “Today’s announcement of the schedule is another important moment in the build-up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 – the moment that the tournament comes to life for teams and cricket lovers across the world. This is the flagship event in one day cricket.

“There are some fantastic head to head fixtures – England v Australia at Lord’s and India v Pakistan at Old Trafford as well as England v India at Edgbaston spring to mind. As organisers we can promise the teams and fans we will work hard to provide the perfect stage for this event.

“Because of the UK’s diverse population, every competing team will also be guaranteed a ‘home crowd’ every time they play at some of the most iconic cricket grounds in the world.

“The Cricket World Cup is the third most watched global event and has huge interest and appeal amongst cricket fans. Our ambition is to grow the game and deliver the greatest ever cricket celebration and with that in mind we have very carefully developed our ticket prices. The prices have been tested with thousands of fans over the last six months, we have used external experts and consulted widely to ensure that they are good value vs other global sporting events. The prices balance accessibility with delivering the investment required to deliver a world class event. All revenue is invested back in the game to grow cricket.”

Ticket prices offered are as follows:

· 80,000+ tickets at £20 (over half of the group stage matches)

· 200,000+ tickets at £50 or less

· Child tickets at every match, starting from £6

· Family of 4 for £52

so the format is like the 1992 world cup?

Does anyone know when Ramadhan ends that year as I would rather book tickets for matches after Eid..

The Proteas will play the opening game of the 2019 World Cup against hosts England at the Oval on 30 May.

India-Pakistan clash set for 16 June at Old Trafford.

World Cup final to be played at Lord's on 14 July.

Awesome opening match..,

I like the format of the World Cup. The four best team will go into semis and then it will be down to who wins the pressure moments.

SA vs Eng- first match seems to be a ripper.

I'm looking to go to Lords for Pakistan vs South Africa and Pakistan vs Bangladesh!

Does anyone know what the difference is between the platinum, gold, silver and bronze categories for the tickets?

Planning to go for the Pakistan vs South Africa game at Lords!

Tickets are not expensive at all. Would definitely fly from Zurich to see a few of the matches.

Platinum is usually the best view, behind the bowlers arm. Gold next to platinum and the rest are usually a mix depending on the ground and the types of stands present.

If you can afford it it's fine but if you look at the pricing it's not really fair for some fans. India tickets over all are more expensive along with tickets for England matches. £70.00 for a Bronze ticket for India v Pakistan is far higher than the rest. The ICC/ECB have increased prices for game where they expect to sell out which is wrong imo.

Yeah, ticket prices for the match were quite steep when I saw them. ICC milking the cash cow here.

Lol that's ridiculous. The cheapest official ticket for pak v India is £70, crazy. I thought it'd be 35ish. Too much money, for a match that could be rain affected knowing England.

im looking to go see england vs pakistan at trent bridge or new zealand pak at edgbaston..there the two I can make...not sure I can travel to the rest..as the cost just increases but maybe ill try for some london matches..

actually looking at the Pakistan fixtures some are a travesty..they are mostly on weekdays and no school holidays..I wanna go with my son and this is dissapointing. I guess I should go for the south africa Pakistan one??

I went to the last two CTs and the T20 WC in 2009 here...they have ramped up the ticket prices a lot.

Before, the highest priced ticket was close to around £100-£150 - now they have this platinum category which goes beyond even that.

Daylight robbery from the ECB.

And again, before all pricing used to be more or less uniform, from my memory. This time they are trying to milk fans on the most popular games. England and India fans seem to get particularly badly hit.

Ticket price for Indian matches :srini:

Indian matches are always at a premium. what is surprising to see is that India matches against relatively smaller teams like SL and NZ are priced at a premium compared Pak matches against better team like Australia. Infact pak matches against WI, SL, NZ are at the second lowest level. Only cheaper tickets are when Afg is playing, which is understandable. buying power of Pak fans in England seems to be quite average

There are different categories of Pakistan fans here:-

- Super hardcore who attend all forms
- Reasonably hardcore who attend ODIs
- Fans who only attend because it’s Pakistan and for the atmosphere.

Indians are generally more educated and business orientated with greater finances. They plan well before.

Pakistanis are generally doing self-employed jobs and buy at the last minute.

Madness not to have our games against England and Australia on a weekend.

no i am not looking down upon anyone. I am just making a comment based on the pricing. It is obvious from the pricing that the buying power of Indians, English, Aus is quite high. England also, obviously, enjoys home advantage.. I was little surprised with BD actually. They seem to be having good crowd support and their fans are having improved buying power compared to what it used to be

against England, it would have been only two days break for England and against Aus it would have been too long break for Pak.. most of the weekends are reserved for either India matches or high profile matches for obvious reasons

The main reason why prices vary quite a lot is they probably saw on resale websites tickets go for a lot more than the original prices despite their non resale policy so they are cashing in as much as they can without the prices being an absolute disgrace.

India v Pakistan last year was getting about £400-£500 on resale when ICC were just selling for £50 so I don't blame them but it is annoying to see from a fan POV.

As long as ticket prices are low for Pakistan, fans won't care why :)

Cannot wait. Pakistan need to peak at just the right time to win this thing.

The World Cup hype and discussions thread!

It's the greatest event in cricket . It's the Carnival of Cricket. 10 teams going to battle it out for the greatest prize in our beloved sport. This edition looks like it's going to be the most competitive one we have had in a long time . Please use this thread to discuss squads and combinations of all teams, players to watch out for, English weather and it's impact , nature of pitches and indeed anything that may influence results or make this tournament unique!

As i said.
Most balanced wc.

Pakistan are always favorites in a tournament hosting in England, although times have changed and flat pitches with 350 scores will be awaiting everyone but still will be a thrilling World Cup with each playing every single team and the drama at the the matches in the end of Group Stage of permutations and combinations of who will go through to Semi Finals. It will be amazing!!!!

Pakistan's 15 Men Squad is almost decided now:

Fakhar Zaman
Imam Ul Haq
Shan Masood
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Mohammad Hafeez
Shoaib Malik
Sarfraz Ahmed(C)(Wk)
Imad Wasim
Shadab Khan
Faheem Ashraf
Mohammad Amir
Hasan Ali
Shaheen Afridi
Usman Shinwari/Junaid Khan

I remember the 1999 World Cup which started on may 14 and how the early part of the tournament favoured swing/seam bowlers and by the time of the SF/final, there was spin on offer with Warne taking full advantage . But this time it starts too late and global warming has certainly taken its toll in the last two decades. I hope we have a similar world cup !

Absolutely . It's the fact that the top teams will be playing each other atleast once is what really excites me about this world cup. Very few one sided matches especially since BD and Windies are capable of upsetting any team on their days. Only AFG matches will be one sided I feel.

So excited for it. Just getting a feel that it's going to be one for the ages , something that most world cups (barring '83, '92, and '99) have failed to be.
So many mouth watering encounters, rivalries and showdowns and most importantly no one sided yawn fests.

Have a sixth sense Pakistan will at the very least, make the Final.

If Junaid is fit, he should be played ahead of Aamir unless Aamir picks up wickets against Australia and England. Also if Rizwan performs im not sure Sarfraz should make the squad at all.

Amir and Fakhar are the first two names on that list. CT was in Eng and just ended 2 years ago. Shinwari will give way for Junaid

CT was two years ago and Aamir has done pretty much nothing in this format since that final.

Doesn't matter. Nostalgia and Hope will take over. ALso, it's really a mystery how a gun bowler is a pale shadow of himself.
