Open with Sarfraz Ahamed and Fakhar Zaman. That's Pakistans best bet. You need to give your best batsmen to face more balls,

1. Sarfraz Ahamed
2. Fakhar Zaman
3. Babar Azam
4. Shoaib Malik
5. Harris Sohail / Faheem Ashraf
6. Hafeez
7. Imad Wasim
8. Shadab Khan
9. Amir
10. Hasan Ali
11. Junaid Khan

Haris Sohail - Faheem Ashraf is a gamble. If Haris is to bat, he should come at 5 and will give stability if he's in good batting form.

Faheem will give Pak someone who can at least top edge a ball for four or six. Forget about his bowling, doesn't look that convincing.

Shadab has hardly done anything of note in ODI's.

Has an average of 37, econ. of 5.26 and only picked up 6 wkts in 5 matches, plus he played mostly against WI on turning tracks.

I'd much rather gamble on Fahim because of his hitting ability.
 
If you remove Hafeez and Azhar alinand bring in Harris Sohail and Fahim Ashraf then you have a very good chance of winning..
 
Don't fantasize a change in the Pakistani squad! Pakistan almost never changes a winning combo.

The best I can hope for is for Malik to bat higher than Hafeez.

I really don't understand why he doesn't. Sarfraz is a rotator needed once someone gets out (coming in at #4) and will release pressure from us, and put pressure on the opposition. Hafeez will be much better suited at #6 also.

I am ok with this, but I struggle with hafeez up the order. i would be tempted to try imad.

If he isn't match fit he shouldn't have been brought in an ICC tournament.. Hafeez and Azhar have been really disappointing so far and if Sri Lanka scores 300+ which they are capable of scoring you have no chance of winning with Azhar and Hafeez in the team..

Othet option is being bring Shehzad back in place of Azhar that's even worse for you guys.. Though I would love to see that happen just for the LOLs we'll get on PP

yeah...the selection is mostly down to inzi. we'll see what happens tomorrow. I can't see azhar playing tomorrow or if playing as he did in the second match

I am sceptical about having him open as well but as a senior member who is "experienced" in that position he should stand up, I don't want to throw guys like Imad at the deep end; Hafeez has failed but he has done ok vs Lanka in the past maybe that will give him confidence and he pulls out one of those once in a blue moon performances away from the UAE

Bhai Lankans bora maan jatay hain if you call it practice match. They whallop your over-rated bowling and chase 320 by giving just one wicket to the bowlers. The Indians can attest to that fact.
 
dont see why muhammad amir is persisted, he opens and totally wastes new ball by getting no wicket

if they are hell bent on playing amir, hasan should def open with junaid whereas amir comes in place of hasan

Pakistan heavy favorites now, easy peasy.
 
That looked like a bad injury the first time I saw it. Atherton was suggesting a torn hamstring while on commentary too. He's done more damage to it by playing through the injury.

Azhar and Fakhar opening is a lock down, however, the management are contemplating playing Sarf at 4. in place of Hafeez.

Though i hope it is true but i don't trust this guy i have seen him saying these type of things alot of times without any solid prove

Not reputable, but these guys I know have a pretty good track record and are usually right with the news they provide me with. Fahim playing is almost a certainty; it remains to be seen whether he replaces Shadab or Azhar. However, there is a good chance he replaces Azhar and Hafeez opens.

As [MENTION=141390]Ellipsism[/MENTION] says, management is considering playing Sarfraz at #4, which strengthens the case of Azhar being dropped and Hafeez opening instead.

Will be gutted if Shadab is the one who is dropped for Fahim.

Fingers crossed.
 
The Sri Lankans play spin very well. They annihilated Jadeja whose figures were 6 overs, none for 52. No need to play Shadab Khan (he only bowled 5 overs in the S.A. match). Faheem Ashraf will strengthen the power hitting and fast bowling, maybe a bit like Razzaq.

Shadab the batsman is more valuable than Azhar thus no reason to drop Shadab for Azhar.
 
i already said thats how it should be and this is probably a good move, a bit risky though

but i would also like rumman instead of amir dunno why amir is such a golden boy for PCB

imo Fahim should come in for Imad. SL took Jadeja to the cleaners, and Imad provides a similar line of attack. I have a lot of faith in Shadab. Other than that either Shezad/Haris should come in for Azhar

That'll be the worst decision to drop Shadab. He's done nothing wrong to be dropped. He is a trump card in bowling and electric in the field. He can slog a few at the end too.

Fahim should be in for Azhar. Hafeez should open with Sarfaraz at 4 . This is the best possible combination from the squad.

Fully agreed.

Azhar the only one that needs to be dropped at the moment.

You can't drop Shadab like that.

Haris needs to wait.
 
The team that we played vs South Africa was very good, but a few changes can still be made and Pakistan would have a guaranteed spot in the Semi-Finals.

Drop Azhar Ali, bring in Fahim Ashrf and open with Sarfraz and Fakhar Zaman. Both are very quick between the wickets and always looking to run singles and doubles.

Drop Hafeez and bring in Harris Sohail. Not only can he bowl well but is also 10 times the batsman Hafeez is.

Playing Fahim Ashraf not only gives variety to the bowling attack but also gives us firepower down the order while Ashraf will also gain in experience and not be under the pressure of making his debut in the Semi-Final or Final.

The rest is pretty much OK. A good, makeshift opening pair. Strong middle order with Azam, Harris and Malik, who is in the form of his life. The lower middle-order also shows a lot of promise and firepower with the likes of Imad, Shadab and Fahim, who are all more than capable of playing attacking cricket.

The bowling is in safe hands too. Junaid and Amir have formed a decent combination to open the attack while Hasan Ali and Imad are a good first change. Shadab Khan is the mystery package and even Harris and Malik can roll their arms of need be.

Therefore, I think that going with this XI increases our chances of going forward in the Champions Trophy. Enough of dot ball legends are nothing but TTFs.
 
What's with everyone hoping for Azhar to be replaced by Fahim and having line-ups with Imad at 6. That is a ridiculously long tail and sure fire way for defeat.

I would like Junaid to be replaced by Fahim. Azhar and Hafeez are going no where sadly. Azhar got a 50 only 2 matches ago and Hafeez did bowl decently against SA. I don't think Junaid will replaced either. The only change team management will seriously consider is Fahim for Shadab. I wouldn't go for that because I think the SL batting order can be vulnerable to a mystery leg spin bowler. What I do hope for is that Sarfraz bats at 4 and Hafeez is pused down to 6. Force the Prof in a situation where he has to bat quick. If he still bat selfishly, then Mickey has grounds to drop him for good.

Why is there so much need to bring in Fahim in the team.Surely he should not replace Shadab,Hassan and Shadab are our best bowlers and our future too.Fahim is no Stokes that we need to fit him in the team anyhow all of a sudden and disrupt the balance of the team.Having said that Sarfaraz coming to no.4 is the only change I would like to have

Because if they come up against England then it will be an even bigger massacre. Remember 444 or something lol.

It is going to be another Eng Vs Ind final but this time with a different result,I hope India doesn't bowl first as if they do that then we will be in for a lot of fun,SL batters made this bowling unit look ordinary wonder what England will do with them.

sure, but Hafeez and Azhar are atrocious - you are pretty much guaranteed no more than 40 run at a SR of no more than 70 between the two

I'd rather have someone new over that, then they have a chance to surprise you like Farhar did last game

Why does everyone keep bringing 444 up? SL, SA, Australia all have conceded 400+ multiple times. Its a miracle with our terrible team we have only done so once last year. Sure our team is garbage but to bring one stat up again and again just trolling.
 
any idea of the the run rate required by pakistan to finish top of group after india beat south africa today?

On one hand I want Pakistan to win but know they will most likely come up short against England in Semi-Finals. On the other hand, I want them to get demolished by Sri Lanka to see the TTF's kicked out of the team for good.

Sri Lanka winning vs India has come in as blessing in disguise for us as we now know not to take them lightly.
 
Any side which has Imad at 6 is asking to be spanked.

If you want Faheem in it's at the expense of Shadab, make your decision.

Need to make a plan for him wrna he can turn the match.

Hafeez usually does well against SL. Think his small starts will now get him a good score, I mean if you are gonna perform do it at least once when it matters, right?
