Has this tournament not proven how useless these rankings are?

Rankings are an accurate representation of how well a team is supposed to perform on an average day. In such events one bad match and you are essentially out of the competition

Nope,
Black swan events are black swan events. They occur more often than one realizes but doesn't mean that they will occur all the time, except South Africa and ICC tournaments.

Rankings are correct representation of consistency but there should be bonus points for like winning or negative points for loosing out of group stage for top teams like RSA
