My personal ranking depending on the my belief which event had the best competitive matches :-

  1. 2000 Kenya
  2. 2017 England
  3. 1998 Bangladesh
  4. 2004 England
  5. 2002 Sri Lanka
  6. 2013 England
  7. 2006 Bharat
  8. 2009 South Africa

2000 tournament to me remains the OG. When I think of the history of the Champions Trophy and why it became the mini World Cup that it is today, my memories always take me back to the Knockout tournament in Kenya. Yuvi’s debut, Tendulkar taking down McGrath, Chris Cairns final century.

That is still my best memory. Yuvi's debut. Chris Cairns blitzkreig in the final. I totally missed all the other CTs until CT2013 final.

Sachin vs McGrath was 2000 as well

Another match on the verge of being washed out.

This is unfortunately turning into a forgettable tournament.

Another washed out game.

Poor drainage system at Gaddafi stadium.

Although I started watching cricket in 2000/01. The only one that is memorable to me is CT17, for obvious reasons. Winning champions trophy by beating India in the final was the stuff of dreams.

I can’t really remember much about any of the others so can’t rank them. But this one is no 1, standout, a memory to hold on to.

2004 and 2017 are the only good ones.

naah 2002 and 2013. this one is great too.
2002 final got rained out and trophy got shared, and barring a handful of matches most of the matches were very one-sided. 2013 I didn't enjoy it because of atrocious performance of Pak team but I can understand an Indian fan enjoying that tournament.

@Savak

Understandable that fans are disappointed the home team is out of the tournament but given that fans have been deprived of top quality international cricket for so long , I expected better then our in the games still left to be played in Pakistan. But it’s an empty stadium today unfortunately with two major teams playing.

I wonder what the sponsors are thinking looking at this.

Hate to say it things worst ICC tournament ever so far on the basis of fans participation only, forget about the arrangements and all which is a new concept anyway we never used to even discuss about such things like arrangements. Bangladesh, Sri Lanka hosted tournaments in the past and filled the stadiums. When you see a stadium full of fans , architecture and amenities etc don’t matter to those watching on TV.

yup. same here. This tournament never deserved any hype. Never had any hype until India met Pakistan in the final.
tbh this is a hypeless tournament.

no one in india particularly cared about 2002. the 2004 series wins in pak had more noise.

2013 was nice but that was cause it was a new team coming after two tough years post 2011. emphasis was still on overseas test series and world cup.

after 2017 when pak won they hyped it ups so much cause that's the only odi thing they have won in 30ish years lol.

good for us lol cause now that elevates both 2002 and 2013 wins.

and this 2025 win holds more significance cause o/w we would forget it like the asia cup wins.

ind-sa semi in 02 was great.

all the six matches india has won to win a trophy have been tight.

4 went to last over - 02 semi, 07 final, 13 final, 24 final

83 and 11 also had jitters till a point.

Fair to say the 2025 edition was the worst hands down.

2017
2006
2009
2013
2025

Alot of people do not realize this but 2017 had a big impact. With Pakistan winning this under Sarfraz, it bought Cricket back to back Pakistan. One of the reasons why we got hosting rights in 2025 was because of this win.

2006 in India was a good tournament, it had all the big stars etc.

2009 was decent, should had been Pakistan hosting it, but the quality of cricket was very good. I love it how we kicked India out by losing to Australia on purpose.

2013 we sucked and 2025 PCB messed up the hosting by caving into Indian demands.

2025 was the best.

ICC tournament returning to Pakistan after 30 years is the most heartwarming thing.

CT had a purpose when it first started in 2000, helping the smaller nation develop with the money it generated so 2000 has to be the best. This was the worst with too much political drama.

2004 and 2017 are the only good ones.

2004 had a close finish in the final and maybe India PAK.

It's generally a myth that there are a lot of close finishes in ODI cricket.

2000 had 2 close games, 2002 had 3, same as 2004, 2006 had 4, 2009 had 2, 2013 had 5 , 2017 only had 1 close game, 2025 had 3, maybe 4 close games .

But we just don't remember that .

As Pakistani fans , CT '17 will hold a special place but it was objectively the most boring tournament if the number of thrillers are anything to go by.

Based on above considerations ill go

2013
2006
2025
2004
2002
2000
2009
1998
2017

:inti

I didn’t see 98, 2000, 2002. Seen 2004 in England. Missed 2006 and 2009. Saw 2013 and 2017 in England. Now 2025 Pak-Dubai. For me 2004 was the best because at the time I was a big fan of West Indies team and was so happy for them winning that. And 2017 CT is the 2nd best because Bangladesh reached CT semi final of an icc tournament for the first time.

2004 and 2017 have alot of appeal as tournaments because of the underdog narratives. If you want to look at it objectively I think 2004 stands out more, especially because of the final and Australia not dominating like they dominate every tournament. India-Pak in that tournament was also a close game, yes.

2017 did have a couple of close games, but I think this tournament is more about the upset results: Sri Lanka beating India, Bangladesh beating New Zealand, Pakistan beating England and ofcourse Pakistan beating India in the final.

2009 was a really great tournament until Australia cruised to yet another easy win.

I'll never forget the Pakistan v Australia match, where Pakistan needed to win for India to go through. Pakistan came very close but then lost to send India packing. I remember alot of people accusing Pakistan of deliberately losing. :misbah

If you look at it that way, then sure. But even when BD beat NZ it wasn't a close game.

A lot of posters often talk about ODI tournaments not having close games but even back in the "golden" era of ODI cricket , close matches were not the norm. Average 20 % and max . 30 % of matches (if we are lucky) have close finishes.

T20 simply has changed our expectations these days

I guess we can all unanimously agree 2017 was hands down the greatest CT of all time.

So good it was that I take it over a few CWCs. Controversial opinion but I stick by my opinion.
