Inspite of multiple terror attacks in England and loss of many innocent lives, champion trophy is in progress without any break with authorities providing assurance of the security of the players and spectators, which I think is the right approach. In today's harsh reality, no country can give the assurance that no terrorist related incidence involving even some soft target will not happen anywhere in any given country. And that I think should be the basic requirement to allow any country to hold an international sports event.
But for Pakistan, looks like the ICC and the other cricket playing countries have different standard. Yes, there was very very sad incidence involving SL players which happened some 8 years ago, but since than security situation has improve considerably. Pakistan government, army and PCB has assured all the countries of providing fool proof security for the players and the spectators inside the stadium, but looks like for Pakistan any incidence even hundreds of mile away from the proposed venue could make the security situation unfit to host an international cricket match. Every single life is precious , but the time when a zero incident , even a small one would not happen for a long period of time anywhere in Pakistan, probably not a realistic expectation.
ICC and other cricket board need to re-evaluate their security requirement to re-start international cricket in Pakistan otherwise cricket will lose one of its once a power house forever. We can blame to many people and factors for humiliating loss against India today but the fact is no raw talent is coming out of Pakistan like old days due to lack of international cricket in Pakistan. Interest in the game is fading away fast and if cricket in Pakistan followed hockey's fate, the game of cricket will be the biggest loser.
