Do you know what happened to ICL?
Also, I have posted the same scenario in post #77 and shown why that would never work.
BCCI is the organisation responsible for Indian cricket, and as long as we dont reach the saturation point for cricket, it will keep getting stronger. And given the economy will keep growing for a few decades at a high rate, and that IPL has not even reached some of the smaller cities, the growth will continue for a while.
Yes I do.
The ICL is why there is an IPL.
But the BCCI used unlawful anti-competitive conduct (viz Shane Bond) to drive the ICL to the brink, and the rottenness of the ICL’s owners saw it descend into a nest of corruption.
We are already seeing in football that FIFA is essentially looking at stealing the big clubs from UEFA to steal the Champions League.
Sooner or later, Lalit Modi will be used by an Indian billionaire to buy up the world’s Top 200 players from the 8 big cricketing countries. The cost would be tiny by global sport standards.
Those players will play 6 months of the year in T20 tournaments in India, England and Australia. And 3 months of international cricket.
And it will completely destroy all the world’s Boards.
We all know that the IPL earns peanuts in gate receipts, and was barely different when played overseas.
I can imagine the expanded private league featuring Lahore Losers versus Mumbai Midgets from Doha.
And India v Pakistan from Leicester, Leeds and London.
The current model panders to BJP politics and the BCCI, but leaves huge amounts of untapped revenue as the India/Pakistan rivalry is neglected.
But that’s just making it easy for a private impresario to steal world cricket.
Giles Clarke got into bed with Allen Sanford and N Srinivasan, and begged for their favours. You can be sure that Indian cricket will be welcomed around the world as soon as the stadia and TV stations realise that the BCCI has lost the players.
