The International Cricket Council announced the details of its broadcast arrangements for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, including a star-studded commentary panel that will provide expert opinion during the event in Australia from 16 October to 13 November.

ICC TV will produce live coverage of all the matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, and a full world feed service for licensees. This will include a pre-match show, an innings interval fill and a post-match wrap-up. A star-studded commentary panel will bring the game closer to the fans than ever before.

Eoin Morgan, the last captain to lift the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, will be making his ICC TV commentary debut and will be working alongside other stellar names including former Cricket World Cup winners from Australia, Adam Gilchrist, Mel Jones, Shane Watson and Michael Clarke.

They are joined by former England captains, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton, as well as former India Coach and Men’s Cricket World Cup winner Ravi Shastri and Women’s Cricket World Cup and T20 World Cup winner Isa Guha. Other names include Men’s T20 World Cup winners Carlos Brathwaite and Samuel Badree, ICC Hall of Famers Shaun Pollock and Sunil Gavaskar, and former South Africa paceman Dale Steyn.

In addition, seasoned broadcasters Harsha Bhogle, Ian Smith, Bazid Khan, Natalie Germanos, Mark Howard, Ian Bishop, Athar Ali Khan, Simon Doull, Russel Arnold, Danny Morrison and Mpumelelo Mbangwa will also form a part of the panel.

The First Round of the tournament will also feature Brian Murgatroyd, Dirk Nannes, Niall O’Brien and Preston Mommsen.

Eoin Morgan said: “This is one of cricket’s most exciting tournaments and the players will be raring to go out there and show what they are capable of. It’s going to be a very competitive event with teams adding new skills in a format evolving at a rapid pace. I’m looking forward to being a part of the action in my new role as a broadcaster.”

Adam Gilchrist said: “We’re really excited to have one of cricket’s marquee events come to our shores in Australia. The spotlight will be on some wonderful venues, and it’s a great opportunity for fans to come out and support their favourite teams. I’m really looking forward to being a part of the commentary team.”

Mel Jones said: “It’s time for another Men’s T20 World Cup and it’s one that Australian fans are keenly awaiting. The conditions on offer here will make for some entertaining cricket and I’m expecting to see a lot of closely fought contests. Memories of the women’s team famously winning at the MCG in 2020 are still fresh in my mind. The chance of the men’s team replicating that, and going back-to-back themselves, has the whole country buzzing.”

Nasser Hussain said: “The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is a great tournament with the world’s best talent on view. Not much separates the teams, and the tournament promises some hard-fought battles and top-drawer performances. I am sure I will enjoy commentating in Australia, which has some iconic venues and spectators who really love the game.”

Harsha Bhogle said: “The Men’s T20 World Cup has come a long way since the first edition in 2007. The format itself has developed so much and the players have added so many different skills to their repertoire. It will be a pleasure to commentate on this edition in Australia, a great sporting nation. With the crowds back, it will be great to see T20 cricket being played on large grounds. This event should hold everyone’s attention.”

DRS services including ball tracking and edge detection will be provided by Hawk-Eye, and the graphics system will be supplemented by in-depth cricket data analytics provided by Cricviz.

The drone camera provided by Level Horizons will provide stunning views of all venues and surrounding geography. There will be a roving buggy cam as well for a ground level view, while Spidercam will provide an aerial view of proceedings.

Gavaskar and Bhogle on T20 cricket combined with biased SA commies, and lame chest thumpers like Ian Smith and wannabe jokers as Danny enough reasons to mute it

Clarke Morgan Watson Nasser Bishop the one with something for viewers

Pretty ordinary coverage on Willow TV. Bad camera angles, goofy graphics and compression artifacts on my Bell Fibe IP TV in Canada.

There is this obsession with former big-name players being given commentary roles when the reality is that they are terrible and clueless and make for horrible viewing.

I think I'll be muting the tv quite often during this tournament.

Amazing stuff from Pommie!

The T20 World Cup final between England and Pakistan on Sunday will be shown on Channel 4, after Sky struck a deal with the broadcaster to make the match available on free-to-air television.

Any idea, who are going to be the neutral commentators for the final??? Hopefully Bishop and Ian Smith are there…

Pommie is a delight too!

The final has been an interesting experience so far. Ear-piercing rock concert before the match, now some annoying music playing between every single ball.

Watched the pre-match on Sky.

Absolutely terrible.

All of them trying to shout over the music with very little success.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced that the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 saw 6.58 billion video views across all ICC platforms, surpassing the Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 record by 65% and making it the most digitally engaged ICC event ever.

It also recorded strong TV broadcasting figures across the globe, with 1.28 billion people watching the matches on TV, including the India v Pakistan classic at the MCG which racked up 256 million viewing hours in India.

Despite the home team’s absence from the knockout stage, there was a 455% increase in linear TV viewing hours in Australia compared with the 2021 event, while 8.7 million English fans cheered their team on from home as Jos Buttler’s men captured the nation’s second T20 World Cup crown.

The digital engagement records and broadcast results, coupled with a total attendance for the event of 751,775, has made the 2022 edition one of the most popular in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

ICC Chief Executive, Geoff Allardice said: “We are thrilled to announce the record-breaking viewership and engagement numbers for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. The innovative approach to content creation, collaboration with the competing teams and use of cutting-edge technology delivered through this event provided new and existing fans with comprehensive coverage of the event on the platforms most relevant to them.

“These outstanding numbers demonstrate our fans’ appetite for ICC events and the depth and breadth of the global reach that cricket enjoys across the world.”

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Local Organising Committee CEO, Michelle Enright said: “These numbers, both in terms of record digital and broadcast engagement and the attendances at the matches here in Australia are testament to the quality of the cricket that was delivered on the field by the players. We witnessed some unbelievable performances, some breathtaking finishes, and some major upsets as well. It was a truly unmissable event, wherever you were watching the action.

“As a Local Organising Committee we set about to bring generations and cultures together for this incredible event, and I am proud to say we achieved that. The fans played an equally important role as the players in the success of the event and we saw people from many different nationalities, backgrounds, and ages, sharing their sheer passion and love of the game.

“Our ticket holders came from 113 different countries and from all parts of Australia, showcasing the rich multiculturalism of our country and cricket’s extraordinary global appeal.”
