Perth will provide points as Group 2 strugglers, Netherlands and Pakistan, look to rejuvenate their Super 12 campaign

Netherlands and Pakistan go head-to-head in Perth, looking to register their maiden points of the Super 12 after successive defeats in their opening fixtures. With both teams' hopes of progression to the semi-finals hanging by a thread, victory is an absolute must if they are to keep their faint chances of survival alive.

Following Thursday's shock defeat at the hands of Zimbabwe, Babar Azam's men head into their third match knowing that their future in the tournament is beyond their control.

However, if they are to stand any chance, it remains essential for them to win all three of their remaining fixtures.

“We are as hurt as any cricket fan would be,” Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf said in his pre-match media conference.

“The tournament is not finished for us and we can still make a comeback, we have three games left and we are confident of doing well.

“We have analysed our mistakes and will do better. We are focused on our cricket and not listening too much to what is being said outside."

The equation remains the same for the Netherlands, who are also winless and sit bottom of the group due to an inferior net run rate. Having taken Bangladesh close in their opening Super 12 fixture, India proved to be a sterner test as the Netherlands batters fell 56 runs short in their chase of 179.

Sunday's meeting marks only the second contest between these two sides in the game's shortest format. In their previous encounter, the two sides met at Lords during the 2009 edition of the T20 World Cup, with Pakistan cruising to a conclusive victory of 82 runs in a campaign that saw them crowned champions.

Predicted XI's

Netherlands: Max O'Dowd, Vikramjit Singh, Bas de Leede, Colin Ackermann, Tom Cooper, Scott Edwards (c & wk), Tim Pringle, Logan van Beek, Shariz Ahmad, Fred Klaassen, Paul van Meekeren

Pakistan: Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Asif Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shaheen Afridi

Key Players

Max O'Dowd

The Netherlands' top scorer at the 2021 T20 World Cup, Max O'Dowd, has once again led by example with the willow, having registered 153 runs at an average of 38.25. More runs from the opener will be crucial if the Dutch side are to record a famous victory in Perth.

Babar Azam

The tournament's leading run scorer a year ago, Babar Azam has yet to get going in Australia. With scores of 0 and 4 in the opening two matches, the Pakistan captain needs a score to his name. Hungry for runs, the Netherlands attack will have to be wary of the Pakistan opener.

Another close match i predict with oranges just scrapping through i think

They could easily lose to Netherlands. Maintaining their streak of never having won a single T20I game in Australia, if that's in fact correct. In fact, I hope they lose to Netherlands.
Everything some of us we were warning about for months came true.
Glad to say that I haven't yet watched a minute of this World Cup live and have no plans to.

Rain prediction tomorrow at 3pm and 2pm
It might not be washout but a reduced 10 over match may be

Pressure all on Pakistan as they've yet to win a single T20I in Australia.

The chances of rain are 14% during the day and about 8% at night. Hence, the PAK vs NED match is less likely to be affected by rain. ( from local paper) which means it may not be much of a reduced match, looks like maximum 20-30 minutes will be lost.

I hope it's either a washout or another Pakistan loss don't want this side to fluke another WC win.

I can almost guarantee no changes in the play 11.
The only change they may make is sending M Wasim below Shaheen in the batting order

What time do I set my Alarm for? Clocks go back one hour tonight

Is Fakhar fit and available for this game?
Shaheen also needs to rested, he is no way near as good as he was pre injury and is even the weak link of the bowling lineup.
Rizwan has to be moved to no.4 or 5 for the rest of the tournament.

None of these above are gonna happen, but ideally this would be my playing XI for the remaining matches :

1. Fakhar
2. Babar
3. Shan
4. Iftihar
5. Rizwan
6. Shadab
7. Nawaz
8. Wasim Jr
9. Harris Rauf
10. Nassim
11. Hasnain

Iftihar should be told to hit big right from the start as he has shown the ability on these pitches, if he fails then the next 3 batsmen can still carry it.

The worst possible outcome is for the Dutch to score around 120 and then RizBab to chase it down in and act like they have proved the world wrong

Its a shame the position we are in hopefully this team will turn it around the world class bowlers we have dont deserve this humiliation

Right?? How do Pak have such a high voltage, exciting bowling attack but then a traffic cone level batting lineup?

Pakistan lost the game vs India due to poor bowling. 160 has been defended by all teams apart from Pakistan so far. The bowlers are mentally weak

Sunil Gavaskar, on India Today, was asked if the defeat was because Pakistan failed to gain early momentum in the tournament after their loss to India, something which had happened to the Men in Blue in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE.

“Kabhi kabhi waise demoralising hota hai. Aap apne aap ko lift nehi kar sakte. Lift karne kiliye apke jo management hai woh waise chaiye jo aapko bol sake ki haa ho gaya but aapke paas woh qabiliyat hai. Yehi pe, do saal pehle, India Adelaide main 36 all-out ho gayi thi. Kohli wapas chale gaye the. Ajinkya Rahane captain the. Jis tarike se Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun, Ajinkya Rahane, Vikram Rathour, Sridhar, unhone team ko samhala aur confidence diya. Aur maine dekha hai ki jab Kohli nehi rehta hai toh baki ke players sochte hai ki kaise uske jaga ko compensate karein. Waisa agar Pakistan ke paas hota, waisa support staff jo team ko bol sakta hai ki chalo...abhi bhi ho sakta hai. (Sometimes it can be demoralising. But to lift yourself up you sometimes need a management who can tell you to forget about the defeat because you have that ability. Two years back in Australia, India were folded for 36 in a Test match in Adelaide. Virat Kohli had returned home after that game. But the way the team was handled by Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun, Ajinkya Rahane, Vikram Rathour, Sridhar, who instilled that belief. Pakistan need that kind of support and they still can turn things around),” he said.

lol ... we have an even better answer from our support staff .... "Allah ki marzi hai"

Fakhar hasn't played any games for 2 months he will disappoint just like shaheen

Pak will have to chase. So I think this can go either way if ned are able to post 150+

Netherlands have won the toss and opted to bat against Pakistan in Group 2 encounter - Pakistan have made one change - Fakhar Zaman comes in place of Haider Ali

Did Babar lose the toss again? Netherlands will target 140 and they will be confident in defending it.

Pakistan are underdogs. Everyone likes supporting underdogs.

Ned should be bowled out for 100 and Chase that out in 10 overs..

Pak can qualify for semis still with the last match result of zim vs Desh

Brilliant world cup

Shaheen should have been dropped. He is not good enough. He is very unfit and he diminishes the team chances.
He is one of the reason Pakistan lost two matches.

Team finally looks good and balanced with Fakhar in. Both Alis should be dumped for good

If Pakistan lose today I’m retiring my badge as a Pakistani fan for the next 365 days

Right?? How do Pak have such a high voltage, exciting bowling attack but then a traffic cone level batting lineup?

Well TBH Pakistan's bowling is way overrated as well yes they're good but not that great. They allowed India to crawl back into the game after being at 31/4 & they allowed Zimbabwe to score 130 after they were 90 odd for 7.

Pakistan lost both of the matches because of this supposedly world class bowling lineup.

Fakhar Zaman the biggest comedian fielder of the Asia Cup? Dude looked high as hell

Haider Ali won us the tri series cup

Asif Ali saved us from losing to Afghanistan

I want to see them open with Fakhar and Rizwan, with the agreement that Fakhar has licence to play his natural game and swing at everything.

We are already out of the tournament. Just play for pride. India and S Africa will go through. Bangladesh has a chance if they can be India and Pakistan.

So Pak are back to playing proper bats. The ‘hitters’ asif khush Haider are all gone

What made me laugh was Dutch interviews leading up to the game. They definitely feel they have a chance. Pak/Manchester Utd/Liverpool - can’t even rely on reputation anymore!!

Not yet - SAF wash out vs Zim has given us a chance

No way are the Dutch scoring even 80 here. Decent bowling but worst batting I have seen in this competition.

This should be an entertaining match that goes down the wire. Pakistan finally faces a team it’s evenly matched against.

He's a celebrity who has joined himself to another celebrity (Pir e Bhutan Sharif Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi), engaged to someone who waved an indian flag of all flags.

Whats wrong with his engagement. He has a wonderful career so far and is coming back of injury straight into WC.

Naseem Shah has improved a lot. He has got very good skills. He bowled very well against India.

Pakistan should get them under 120 to have a chance.LOL.
Pakistani batting is the worst in the world cup.

Pollock said something along the lines that when they roll the pitch between innings, it speeds up or something. Could be why chasing under lights is a little harder here?
