Bangladesh announce squad for T20 World Cup 2026

Litton Das will lead Bangladesh at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka in February-March with the Tigers having named a formidable squad.

Bangladesh have featured in each of the T20 World Cups so far but have never managed to qualify for the semi-finals or beyond.

Squad

Litton Das (C), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Saif Hassan, Tawhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Taskin Ahmed, Shaif Uddin, Shoriful Islam

Led by Das, they would like to rewrite history in 2026 and would rely heavily on familiarity with the conditions and a balanced bowling attack led by experienced duo of Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed. Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain will be more than handy on tracks that will assist turn making Bangladesh a real threat in the tournament.

The batting will rely heavily on the skipper but the likes of Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon will add much needed flair to the top order.

Bangladesh will be challenged from the word go as they find themselves in a tough group featuring England, West Indies, Nepal and Italy with just two teams advancing to the Super 8s.

Bangladesh T20 World Cup group fixtures:

v West Indies: February 7, Kolkata

v Italy: February 9, Kolkata

v England: February 14, Kolkata

v Nepal: February 17, Mumbai

Bangladesh bowling isn't too shabby but their batting badly let's them down in this format.

Will they even participate in the tournament ?

Anyway they are likely knockout from group stages itself

b:klopp :kp

Should've selected youngsters from emerging, they striked better than these seniors.

What are these "rumors" about BD not willing to travel to India for the WC?

Not bad squad. Would have preferred Sabbir Rahman instead of Tawhid or Shamim for 6 position finishing role. . Glad there’s no Jaker Ali.

Are they even allowed to participate?

Its likely BCCI gets them kicked out.

Holiday time. Hope they get paid something. Given teh track record i doubt they will get any. Half a million USD participation fee lost.

Bangladeshi players now have an opportunity to rest well and focus on future series/World Cups.

India are not scheduled to host another ICC event until 2029. :dav

Congrats to all BD fans. You have really shown up the ugly politics of India and BCCI .

You have won without entering the cricket pitch which is a great achievement considering that your team has historically been the biggest losers on the pitch.

Joy Bangla :shakib

As per INDIAN MEDIA sources, (so read with caution)

In a surprising reversal, Bangladesh's sports advisor Asif Nazrul has shifted the responsibility for the country's absence from the 2026 T20 World Cup away from the government, now claiming the decision was made by the players and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to protect "national dignity" and safety. This contradicts his previous statements from January 2026, where he asserted the boycott was strictly a government mandate following the ICC’s refusal to move Bangladesh's matches from India to Sri Lanka due to security concerns. Despite the withdrawal and reports suggesting players actually had little say in the matter, Nazrul hailed the outcome as a success, noting that the ICC has declined to impose sanctions and will still consider Bangladesh as a future host for international tournaments.

Could be an Indian masala news.

Indians are still salty about it. everybody else pretty much moved on.

Why don't they move on? :inti

This has been confirmed by Cricinfo as well ::

U-Turn by BCB now LOL ! No wonder BCB and PCB are mates now with their U-Turns ! No one cares if Ban play or not - the most useless team ever inspite of the opportunities ! :ROFLMAO:

What a relaxing world cup this has been for me. The squad has now 2 years to get ready for next World T20.

Both WI and ENG will move onto next round without a fuss, and they are better equipped to cause damage to stronger teams like IND/Aus.

With the level of support and money Bd cricket has..it's really disappointing with the quality of cricket...specially comparing to Afghanistan...hopefully your u19 squad matures and brings Bangaldesh cricket to new heights...for some reason the bd crickets come across as extremely aggressive with zero performance to back it up...essentially they are dislike by India sri lanka and Afghanistan ...Paksitan also during the Shahid afridi era...that's is something that needs improvement...either the performance need to go up to match the antics or the antics need to go down. No one does the cringe naagin dance...

Why would India care if useless teams are not part of wc..what does Bangaldesh bring to world cup..get beaten by all and exit first round...new comers like scotland can benefit from exposure and improve if they had the backing and money that bd has.

On a separate note what do BD fans think, would Shakib, even at 38, consider a few years in the US team?

I think the current political dispensation hates him, he likelly won't get a gig with BD, I believe his wife is a US citizen, and the US team would grab him with both hands.

Really with both hands?

In reality they will most likely to pretend to be this guy if he ever does approach them.

Yes, he would be good for USA team now that you mention it. I mean you guys were sweating against USA even without him. :kp

Agreed.

Plus after joining USA, it would be the first time in history that any Bangladeshi player manages to be part of a competitive team..
