England gear up for their second game in Pallekele with early control of Group 2 in the Super Eights after their commanding win over Sri Lanka. Pakistan, meanwhile, have a solitary point following the washout against New Zealand and will be searching for more to boost their chances of a semifinal push. The table, though still young, already places a bit of an urgency on Pakistan, who cannot afford to drift. England, by contrast, have momentum but not necessarily complete clarity in all departments.

History has largely favoured England. They lead the overall T20I head-to-head 21-9 and have won all three previous meetings against Pakistan in T20 World Cups, including the 2022 final. In Pallekele, where surfaces have consistently brought spin into the contest, adaptability will again be tested. England hold a slight advantage in that regard, having already played the bilateral series here against Sri Lanka as well as their first Super 8 fixture, while this will be Pakistan's first outing at the venue in the competition.

If there is one area England will want sharper returns from, it is the top order. Despite Phil Salt's fine knock of 62 against Sri Lanka, England's openers have produced the lowest aggregate amongst all teams in the Super Eights. They have just one 50-plus stand in ten innings and have failed to bat beyond the fourth over together in any game. That fragility at the top becomes particularly relevant against a Pakistan attack that has traditionally thrived when early pressure is created. Will Jacks has come to the rescue plenty of times for England in this World Cup, but the 2022 champions would prefer a firmer cushion from their top order.

The broader concern for England is their record against spin in this edition. They have already lost 21 wickets to spin, the most by any side in the tournament, with their average against slower bowlers sitting below 23. With both teams having relied heavily on spin at different stages of the innings, Tuesday's contest could well hinge on which batting unit negotiates spin with greater control.

Pakistan, meanwhile, have their own points of focus. Sahibzada Farhan's prolific run in T20 cricket since the start of 2025, including five hundreds in that period, offers them a game-changer at the top. However, while Farhan's form is a major positive, the rest of Pakistan's batting order is yet to make a significant mark. All average below 30 in this tournament and none has registered a fifty-plus score, placing added pressure on Farhan to provide strong starts. Against an England attack that did well to defend 146 against Sri Lanka, Pakistan's batters could have their work cut out.

“In a crucial match against England, the proposal to play mystery spinner @abrarahmedpak01 in place of former captain @babarazam258 is under consideration! It's likely that there will be just one change in the Pakistan team for the second Super Eight match!”

Alhamdulillah if it happens

If the par score is 150 160 then the English batsmen will get out caught to Pak spinners...... Which puts Pakistan right in the game. :babar

Hope so but I don’t really expect Pakistan to make any change

I don’t think that makes sense. If Babar is going to be replaced, it should be by another batter, not a bowler. Pakistan already has more than enough bowlers in the playing XI. GEO News has never exactly been supportive of Babar Azam, so honestly, I don’t see much reason to take their claim at face value.

As for yesterday’s practice, I can confirm that Shaheen and Abrar did most of the bowling. They spent close to two hours in the nets, noticeably more than the other bowlers.

Pakistan played last game with 2 genuine bowlers (9-2). With fakhar coming in replacing babar with abrar or Naseem would make perfect sense

Saim
Farhan
Agha c
Fakhar
Shadab
Usman+
Nawaz
Naseem
UTariq
Mirza
Abrar

---------
Old school mantra if 5 batsman cant do it, 6 wont also. Henceforth going with 4 specialist bowlers . Shadab gets in a batsman not to worry for his overs . Saim & Nawaz to share 4 overs. Bat 1st get 170 and believe in yourself.

Babar has excellent stats against England. He should play... People were supporting fakhar based on same thing agianst Kiwis. Where is the support for babar now??

I have a feeling Abrar will play in place of a batter or all-rounder (could be Fakhar likely) and Shaheen will play in place of Salman Mirza (as Shaheen a little batting given we would be removing a batter). This is just based on Hesson thinking and practice times given to Abrar and Shaheen.

If it was upto me, I would drop Shadab and Faheem and play Nasim and Abrar.

Saim
Sahibzada
Salman
Babar (if there is any game he can do well its tomorrow against their pace on a batting pitch)
Fakhar
Usman (no keeper choice)
Nawaz
Nasim
Salman
Abrar
Usman

It's very tough match

Considering our record against England

A win here would put them almost in semis

A defeat would be pretty much end of hopes for semis

England always overpower Pak in worldcup matches. I don't see any difference. Defeat loading... Margin will be the key.

England and NZ should be going through from this group. Will be huge upset if we win especially hearing it may be batting track

Pakistan bowling not an issue . It’s batting which can crumble anytime . And crumble really bad . Hopefully Saim fires today

I kinda agree he is more likely to be successful againt likes of archer and overton He will struggle againt rashid and Dawson for pakistan maybe make falhar open with farhan drop saim to 3 or 4 England batting is very powerful i hope wicket takes spin otherwise this all spin attack will fail we need two genuine pacers

Yes... Gotta play better than how our neighbours did last night..

LOL... Bhai you are so annoying... no wonder why lots of people here ignore you... I should learn from them...

Anyway... Pakistan has less chance but they can certainly win it.. Just gotta play a better combination this time.

Abrar should play but I’ve never seen him bowl well to England. Their batsmen love smashing him

Abrar is a good bowler, better than any other Pakistani bowler. He needs backing from team management.

Kuldeep and abrar situation is very similar, both are match winner yet team management don't trust them .

If other team plays Tariq regularly, his weaknesses will be exposed. Tariq's only strength is his intermittent bowling, and beyond that, he's nothing special. Tariq is like Ajantha Mendis .

And hearing just now from few journos in SL that Coach wants Shaheen to play (nothing confirmed or decided yet)

I hope coach does not go mental and play Abrar and Shaheen. English batsman have decoded Abrar and played a lot aginst him. Shaheen has no variation in his bowling and his pace is no longer threatening, probably unable to bowl full hilt due to some hidden injury. Keep the same team as the one that was selected for NZ game, with only one change Naseem in place of Faheem, but reports are Naseem was hardly train training with the team.

I think Faheem should play. He can be a handy bowler in these conditions.

Shaheen will bring butter back into form :ssa

Faheem is a trash bowler, and his batting comes in last two overs , Naseem is much better bowler amd has done well against India on this pitch last time he played here. Now if runours are true and Babar is omitted for a bowler like Abrar than Faheem's batting would be needed.

What would Pakistani fans expect if Pakistan won the toss? Remember, there's no chance of rain.

I think Pakistan will bat first, given their previous match. They opted to bat first even though there was a high chance of rain.

This game will decide the fate of Pakistan...I won't love to do the mathematics after this game
If Pakistan Lose Today, they almost knocked out from the tournament.

If Pakistan lost Today, England will go though semi with one game remaining.

Pakistan can have Max 3 pts,

They will needs England & Lanka to defeat NZ as well Pakistan to win against Lanka.

England -6 pts
Pakistan -3
Lanka- 2
NZ -1
