Rana sahab i think we should be happy with 1 point and be happy we got nz out our way just beat eng and sl we should be good for semi finals nz was the strongest in this group.
 
Qudrat ka Nizam did not want Pak to thrash NZ today. People are forgetting one important fact.

It's easy for us to beat NZ in ICC tournaments. They are our whipping boys..

England, on the other hand, always kicks our backs! It will be tough to beat them. If we lose any match, we are out.
 
New Zealand got away lucky. They should thank their stars they got that one lucky point.
New Zealand couldn't have been able to do anything on that pitch.
Pakistan would have choked them with 6 spinners.
Historically Pakistan has beaten them mercilessly.
5-2 is an amazing record.

Bro i think we are down playing nz vs pakistan game nz with current would definitely beat pakistan and nz are the strongest in this group england bowling almost lost them both the games vs minnows pakistan would and should fancy their chances vs england and sri lanka we usually best them in tournaments.
 
Now probably only one team from New Zealand/Pakistan will qualify for the semi-finals.

England team has been playing cricket in Sri Lanka for a month, so they are well aware of the Sri Lankan conditions, just like Pakistan.

Pakistan vs England game is going to knockout game for pakistan.

Not really happy because I fancied 2 points against them.

I am happy for getting Premadasa out of the way because I don’t trust Pakistan on this venue.

They will be much better in Kandy because those conditions are close go similar to SSC.

Overall, I think the team selection and decision at toss had some blunders, and it could have backfired big time. 1 point is a fair result.
 

Pakistan v New Zealand abandoned due to rain​


The opening fixture of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight, between Pakistan and New Zealand, was called off due to rain. The teams will share a point each.

Pakistan captain Salman Agha had elected to bat first but the covers came on soon after the toss.

Pakistan and New Zealand are in Group 2, along with England and co-hosts Sri Lanka. All the Group 2 matches will be played in Sri Lanka.

I said it before the match, Pakistan were most likely to beat NZ in this group for the obvious reason you mentioned.


England for some reason has Pakistanis number and Sri Lanka have home advantage against them.

Why pakistan will only get 2 chances to qualify for semifinal while England and srilanka will get 3? Isn't it unfair because one point is useless..its as bad as loss
 
On the contrary if SL beats Eng Nz and Pak, Pak beats Eng while Eng beats Nz , then on NRR with a single Pakistan can sneak into Semis

Although we have been beating NZ consistently in ICC in recent times i always think NZ will be a major threat if someone like Finn Allen has a day out. I prefer weak batting sides against us just in case if we get through to semi final. I deally i want SL and pakistan to qualify for the semis
 
Eng match is in kandy, its batting friendly and at an elevation, stroke makers find it easy there. Don't count on choking the poms with spin in kandy

England botched a game v West Indies in batting friendly conditions, and they flopped to dome extent with the bat against Nepal and Italy on good batting conditions too.

This isn’t the England of old. Pakistan will be their toughest opponent yet in this tournament
 
One thing going in favor of Pakistan is , Harry Brook is dim-witted. I am talking at the level of forrest gump. His interviews, sound bites all give away that he is too immatured for this role. Buttler shouldn't have quit.

Mike Hesson was probably supporting his home country so he choose to bat first on rain forecast match. Lol

It was a Big blunder and another was playing with just 1.5 pacer when pitch was under the cover for 2 day's almost.

Lucky escape for pakistan.

I am happy and sad at the same time that Moeen Ali is not playing for England:

1. Happy, because now Pakistan have a better chance

2. Sad, Babara can’t take his gusah out on his off spin after some of the comments Mo has been making about his batting

For sure batting second we had a good chance but I am generally confident against NZ in WC’s, however, you never know with rain, so the point is not the end of the world I guess

I think he has learning disability. But he has that 'tard' special ability bonus in batting. Quite natural ball hitter when given placid flat track and no pressure.

He may have been selected as captain for his limited intellect not despite it. His simple minded, fratboyish, dim ***** bloke in pub charm may be what Baz wanted. After all, Forest G inspired people pretty well.

As I said before, all love to Sri Lankans, but their country is one of the worst places to play a cricket tournament due to the outright horrible weather… so many important games washed out in the past that you having a perfect X-0 win loss ratio is more important than ever…
 
I think Sri Lanka should not host ICC events in future….So many games marred by rain (even more so than Bangladesh, New Zealand and England) is not good for any tournament.

Or there should be a reserve day for every game (however, this would result in a very lengthy tournament)

There was forecast for heavy rain but that’s gone now, we will get a full game tomorrow.
 
After seeing a clueless decision at the toss, I wanted the rain to wash it out because that was a pathetic and absolute garbage decision to bat first in a rain-affected game...

Hesson and Salman are 2 clowns in the side who are making amess after a mess. Luck favored Pakistan because there was no way Pakistan would have won this shortened game against the Kiwi batting with 1 genuine pacer and a whole bucket of bits and pieces players..

Wasn't this a bat first pitch? I think you were suggesting Pakistan should hVe batted first against India.

Not if you are playing modern day, fearless cricket with intent. In that case you pack your team with bits and piecers and bat first when it rains.. 🤦‍♂️
 
They knew that Babar’s cowardly batting would not be able to cope with the pressure of a chase in a rain affected game / stop-start scenario, our entire strategy is revolving around mitigating the impact of one clueless player who is holding the national team hostage through his political connections & friends in the media.

Yeah. That was a poor decision.

Much easier to chase during a rain-affected game.

Anyway, no damage was done as game got rained out.
